The Storm System

  • We all know how the storm works. It slowly moves around the three main map regions. If you enter the storm then the wheel will move around on it's own, lightning will strike, huge waves and rain will fill your boat up with water. But has anyone actually gone in to the storm unwillingly? It takes up so little space that everyone just goes around and even when I went in on purpose the boat left the storm on its own and it was really exiting for the 5 minutes that I was in the storm but it ended as quickly as it began. My suggestion for the game would be to add some event were the storm would increase in size and also in difficulty. I'll give a situation as an example: Your at an island in The Shore's of Plenty. Your in the middle of a gold hoarder voyage. Then you hear the rumble of thunder behind witch would indicate that the storm event is beginning and you can see how the clouds are growing and becoming more and more intimidating by the second. Before you know it the storm is above you and the waves begin crashing against the rocks and you know if you don't leave immediately your boat will be pushed up on to the beach. You and your crew get on to the boat and begin raising the anchor. You set sail but it's already to late. The wind keeps grabbing the sails witch throws the boat back and forth. In this case the boat could actually tip over. The waves can get so big that they start breaking and falling on top of your boat and could tip it over. Your boat would take on a lot of water as well. You would have to aim the bow of the ship towards the wave and hit it head on. That way you would go threw it and it wouldn't be as dangerous. You would take on less water and the ship wouldn't tip over. The storm is now done growing and is so big that if you wanted to get to The Ancient Isle's or The Shore's of Plenty you would have to go threw the raging storm. This would force players to travel threw it to get to where they want to go. Some brave pirates might want to take advantage of the storm and go after enemy ships who are stuck in the storm. Even skeleton ships would be having a bad time. But the danger witch is inside the storm will scare most players from attempting to travel threw it. Once the storm has ended it will shrink down again to it's normal size. All the destruction left behind by the storm will be revealed. An abundances of sunken ships lay scattered around the area. Tons of planks and bananas lay on the beaches and sea has calmed down. This is my suggestion and I would love to hear peoples opinion and it would be amazing if a developer would see this and tell me why it wouldn't/would work.

  • Funny how Skelly cannoneers STILL have perfect aim even though the fog. I was hoping to use the cover of fog to get to the fort undamaged....but no....

  • I like the idea of storms racing towards skull forts. Contested a fort while one passed only for it to back track, making the fort feel truly cursed.

  • It would probably be a pita but I think the storms shouldn't be static all the time. It's like having the screensaver from an old dvd player in game &everyone just goes around them when they could be more dynamic in a sense that one can form right in front of you or over you without warning. Let it go for a while and slowly die out for a short time and let a new one form in another location.

  • @drizkillz
I don’t think they’re static, I was at an island the other day near a storm but not near enough to be in the rain. Within 5 min it was raining, they storm passed over me and moved west I think. It def moved across the map while I stayed still anchored in a cover.
Another time, I got stuck in the storm and couldn’t sail out, but I think I may have been trying to sail in the direction the storm was traveling and I just couldn’t outrun it. Not real sure but I think they move a bit.

  • @rogan944 It is static in that it is constantly around... there is always a storm and it is always the same size... it just moves; but, it doesn't "develop" as it were. I think this is what he means.

I like the idea of the storm developing rather than being a constant presence on the map, but I don't agree with the extent of the encounter described in the OP. The way it works now is plenty dangerous enough.
