Since the update Loot Floating time needs updated.

  • I've noticed now that loot floats to the surface so much faster now than before. The problem this has caused is really only noticeable for solo players. Example If i beat a skeleton ship, typically i'm damaged at the end of the battle when the tone sounds that they have sunk. I then have to rush to repair the holes and bail the water so that I can leave the ship to collect the loot. In the past this was not an issue. But now the loot comes up so fast that you have only seconds to find it and lift and let go of each item or it will start to sink. Several times I've lost all the loot because i had 3 or more holes to patch to prevent from sinking myself. Multiplayer ships won't see this issue as they have someone that can start to grab the stuff ahead of time. Might be too small to worry about fixing, but it does limit my willingness to attack skeleton ships when I'm solo.

  • @ram2k14 It takes like 5 minutes for treasure to start sinking - if you can't repair 3 holes and get to the treasure in time, then you're doing it wrong.

    Here's my advice:

    1. Use a rowboat - it speeds things up significantly.
    2. No rowboat? No problem! Simply pick up (and then drop) all of the loot each time you swim out to reset the float timer, so they NEVER sink, then actually take 1 back to the ship.
  • @galactic-geek I'm not sure about 5 minutes... but.. perhaps I just lost site of where the loot came up after they sank. but it sure seems like its alot faster than 5 minutes. maybe today I'll sink one.. watch the loot pop up.. and time to see how long before it sinks. would be nice to know.. thanks..

  • @ram2k14 Easier way of testing it would be to just get a chest or something from a voyage, drop it in the water and wait :)

  • @murkrage right.. good idea... I know about the lift and drop to keep stuff floating longer.. the point I was trying to make.. is.. the counter for floating items starts alot sooner than it use to .. it seems.. because the loot gets to the surface so much faster.. I just had a huge fight with a skeleton ship.. and maybe there were more than 3 holes.. i don't know.. its possible I just missed where the loot came up.. but.. i didn't get anything for it by the time I was able to leave the ship... but it didn't seem like it took me 5 minutes.. so.. i must have just been looking in the wrong area.. my bad.. but.. i didn't sink !!! :)

  • @ram2k14 Well, yeah... that is to be expected. The timer starts as soon as the items hit the surface. Given the fact that items float to the surface much faster, that means the timer inevitably starts sooner.

Good on you for not sinking!

  • @ram2k14 That, admittedly, was an approximation (it's probably more like 3 minutes), but my point is that it floats for long enough, and you have options. Let me know the results of your testing! 😉

  • @ram2k14 Assuming you've been on top of your repairs throughout the fight and aren't just seconds away from sinking. My advice would be to put your sail all the way up as soon as the ship is beaten so you don't drift too far. That way you know you'll be somewhere close to the loot even if you don't know the exact location. Then go repair before jumping on to your rear canopy to get a good look around for that shiny loot.

Can honestly say I've never lost loot due to it despawning after a skelly ship fight.
