Make Sloops Faster

  • For starters, I write to you as a player that normally plays with one other player. It isn't always easy to grab another player for the brig or galleon. We shouldn't be forced to play in larger groups to control the bigger ships. We need to have a fair game against the larger ships, otherwise you're telling players to A.) only play in large groups to attack smaller groups of players vs. attacking larger ships. B.) not promote small group play, which most people do. Yes, I understand you can have an open crew, but I shouldn't be "forced" to have to do that, to play in larger ship. You can take this post as "whining" "crying" etc., but really all I'm doing is asking for a fair chance to fight at sea, vs. being caught easily and boarded and killed by 3-4 players vs. us two.

  • Why don't you just two man in a brig?

  • Sloop can turn twice as fast as a gallon and against wind twice as fast as a gallon so how would it be fair to make a sloop faster

  • Most of the players use the sloop, because it's the best ship. When you are playing with your friend you actually already have an advantage over solo players so it isn't fair anyway. 2 vs 3 is easier than 1 vs 2. 3-4-man galleons usually have better things to do than hunting sloops.

When you are with your friend you can take the brigantine instead - it's designed to be 2-man ship. It's even possible to solo it if you are skilled enough. You might learn though that it's quite easy to sink the brigantine with the sloop then.

Btw. Originally the game had only the galleon. From the start you were supposed to do "the bigger groups", because the point of the game is designed as social experience.

  • @mmolife the sloop is my personal favorite ship. I can solo and duo perfectly fine with it and only get caught if I take a risk or make a mistake.

Learn the specs of the different ships and use them to your advantage.

I can pretty much circle any larger ship without being boarded while sailing a sloop and just wait for them to mess up, while popping holes when I have the chance.

The sloop is perfectly balanced if used properly.

  • Don't expect any fairness in SoT, especially if your alone.
Game balance is an illusion, you wouldn't know a good player by the looks of them, but new players are obvious.

The game world does not rotate around you if you choose to sail solo.

    Act accordingly.

  • @mmolife Sloops are already fastest against the wind and are the easiest to maneuver, what more do you want?

  • @MMOLIFE The sloop is fine. Learn the vessels strengths and weaknesses. Improve your sailing skills and tactics, you will be fine.

  • Sloop is great as it is. I took out a Brig yesterday with it while I was solo.
I do have to admit that the brig was crewed by 3 dual gun noobs who all hopped off the ship trying to catch my sloop while I pelted it with cannonballs and sailed around it in erattic patterns preventing people from boarding.
