    ANCIENT ISLES UNIVERSITY ARTICLE

    WHAT TWO PIECEING IS.

The weapon wielding strategy that has adapted from previous game techniques, like the "2pump" from fortnite battle royal, where a player will equip two guns, (generally a flintlock and Eye of Reach) and fire both weapons in a weapon swap, trigger clutch explosion, dealing beyond deadly damage in less then a second.

Tho its accomplishable on both console and PC, it's most commonly demonstrated in PC players, due to the more favorable and faster swap speeds.

A vessel boarded by an accurate "2pop" pirate has its crew mostly meet a green misty end.

With seemingly no counter, many players have grown increasingly frustrated by this infamous "Meta" and have regularly expressed their aggressions, both on the forums, reddit and twitter.

Despite its increasing popularity appearing more and more, I've taken it apon myself to investigate this deadly duo to find out just how deadly it is, and if there is truely, NO COUNTER.

    MY INVESTIGATIONS

To begin my investigation I took to the seas to try it out myself. To get a feel and understanding of how the Meta operates, how it looks to fight it, and how hard it is to defeat a 2poper or be defeated as one.

After a several minutes maybe nearly an hour, I hopped around on my boat practicing my 2pop speeds and agility.

PC was off the bat no sweat to manage, comfortable to use and freedom of aim. The mousewheel made for speedy swaps and double click fire was smooth..

However, rolling over to Xbox, my first issue that I come across, was button mapping. The defult setting for Xbox controller bindings were just not ideal, to jump, and swap weapons I had to leave my aim controls to both evade and attack with the primary method. So a quick button remap got me to where I needed to be however the controls felt a little "off balance" with things being moved around. BUT I am now able to jump, aim, swap weapons and fire, all at the same time, which was the aim of the remap.
Now confident with how i feel opperating the Meta, and comfortable with my shot spds, I took to the seas to find willing pirates to fight in a friendly clash of skills.

    FINDINGS IN THE FIELD

You may feel like when your boarded by a Two Pieceing pirate, its immediate game over, after my research on the topic, I think this feeling is justified, if not simply warranted, some pirates wont even stick around on the serever once they enter the ferry it is so overwhelming..

This in mind, untill it is addressed properly by the developers, it will continue to appear in sessions.

    I think this may help.

The thing I had first discovered was the huge flaw of nearly no chances solo, or even duo if they are a good shot. Fight to your last breath! But dont feel bad for losing, its VERY hard to compete against in many cases..

    However....

After fighting against a MULTITUDE of 2pop pirates there were two seperate main factors and one MAJOR factor that determines the outcome,

the MAJOR factor is to protect your ammo box at all costs... dont let them near it lest they grief you with full access. Keep them from reloading there stock they are harmless without ammo.

Now the two other important factors that determine the outcome of the fight is that Two piecing pirates will perform either
With great aim, or with not so great aim.

A player that isnt the best shot, will be an easy takedown should you take adequate steps.

SO DANCE LIKE YOU MEAN IT!

When a two piecing pirate misses a shot, the chance on an insta-kill is missed with it, the method requires BOTH shots to connect in order to take an entire health bar.

A missed shot means they are now vulnerable,  they have to reload to land the second shot to claim your life, leaving you available to rush them or heal up.
When a two piercing pirate misses a shot, it generally results in a retreat to the lower deck to put distance between you and them, looking for their chance to reload and access your ammo box.. keep a pirate on ammo guard the minute your crew know theres a 2poper on board.
All of your crew together, this should end in winning the fight and continue battle with the opposing vessel.

    But the 2nd possibility is

If the Two Poeceing Pirate has uncanny accuracy, (likely with a mark on the TV for a center dot) and adequate knowledge of his limitations, Fighting them will be hell. They generally board in pairs with one pirate using a cutlass to defend the reloading 2poper.

Attacking them as a split up crew WILL get you all killed, one by one, again and again.

So.. Guard your ammo box AS A TEAM and retain LOTS of cover points.

You must attack the two pirates as a group, with the defender to die first, so guns out!
Using your cover points and the ammo box you are defending. All of you focus your attacks on the one pirate protecting to 2poper.

With this done the duel wielding pirate can only kill one of you before having no defences.. if your crew is killed off... return as a group. All of you wait, to leave the ferry as a team!. (Give xbox a few seconds before following on PC to compensate for load times)
If you respawn all split up you can only fight one at a time and you will all die the same way. So stick together, pressure them into a dead end and swing and shoot like crazy!

You will get through them! if you focus on their needs and drought thier supplys,
    YOU WILL WIN!

    Be safe out there kids!
    And BE KIND!

  • Good post, agree with most of it. I would like to see a delay between 2 shots at the very least.

  • @nayfe-pacewell

This is probably the most thorough assessment I've seen so far, great job!

I agree that it's something which needs to be addressed by the dev team, it feels far too 'specialised' for the game Sea of Thieves is.

  • @kzoo-kid I feel like maybe there should be a 'holster'/'unholster' animation, slightly shorter than a reload animation, but not instant.

  • @KattTruewalker I do this for the community I love so much :D

    Thank you :D

  • Good work mate, don't forget the age old keep them off the ladders as well though, a man in the water is both a good way to see them approach and a good way to attract sharks, sharks are your biggest ally as a lot of 2 gun scrubs jump overboard to reload

  • @reedski Aye! Indeed. A boarder is most vulnerable when attempting to board.

This guide is for that unlucky occurrence a slippery sailor who sneaks his way on, a ram-raid or making deck with a miracle cannon shot.

Thanks for your input sailor, happy sailing and Whatch yah ladders! Cheers!

  • Another issue my crew and I have to address along side the 2poppers is PC players having a greater advantage with jumping around while being able to 2pop, aim and reload. In my personal opinion I think that alongside the nerf of 2poppers they should put in a time delay between jumping or if you jump to many times in a row there is a delay on the next time you jump.

  • So this is some great advice, I do see a problem with the re-spawning as a team remark. My crew has both XBox and PC players on it and even if we leave the ferry at the same time we don't come back at the the same time (XBox seems to have a slightly longer loading time, especially on a long play session) But totally loved the read.

  • @ikkiville I have noticed this too, we normally give the Xbox crew members a couple seconds head start when going through the ferry door to try and make the respawn times match up.

There is a time delay on jumping, PC users do not have an advantage in this area. I never really understood this argument by xbox players because if there was no time delay you could literally fly away by spamming the jump button. I play on PC with a controller and have no problem jumping and aiming. If you are having trouble, try remapping your buttons so that you jump with left bumper or something. I haven't remapped my jump button because there really is no need but that option is available.

  • There is truth in the fact that if you are boarded, you already made a mistake. Either in guarding your ladders in an active situation, fighting another crew, or you set sail with a hidden passenger because you didn't look to the horizon.
Given the dreamy nature of this game, not every player is on edge and on guard all the time.

@Nayfe-Pacewell Your statement "if they are a good shot" lends itself well to K+M power of the PC player. The aim accuracy with mouse, as told by my sons, is so far superior that it's unfair to be in the same game as controller play.

If the pop mounts the sniper in the 1 position and pistol in the 2 position, you can be killed by the second pistol shot, If you don't heal. Reload on the pistol is quicker than you think, and if you heal, and then ready a sword for a lunge, you could well be dead.

If you pride yourself in good execution and have a competitive personality, don't play this game with a console. If you do, know that you will play with a hand tied behind your back. Know that you'll have to be more evasive and elusive than other players to succeed. Perfect your Cannon play and barreling to win a fight without 2poper action.

Sailing casually leads to premature death. Sailing with high paranoia, bananas stacked by 5s, always ammo'd up, and never drunk, you might be at a higher level of success.

  • I play on One X with an external SSD and I beat back my Xbox One teammates in a re-spawn. It's almost equal to a good pc with SSD. Crossplay is broken and don't expect to rank well on Arena mode if you're an Xbox player.

You don't see Ninja play on a ipad or phone do you.... Even though he'll sell you one.

  • @sprungnickel427 you make strong points. I agree in the majority

However, please remember this is a tips and guides thread and game feedback should remain in the feedback section of the forums.

    Thank you for your consideration.

  • @ikkiville in whichcase.. let xbox players return first, and alow a small time window to pass before PC returns. This way ththe PC load time completes closer to yours.

  • Again I just wish to kindly remind people.
That game feedback and speculations should remain in the adequate section of the forums.

Please keep the comments section for items directly related to the guide, ie spelling mistakes.

    Thank you for your considerations.

  • Just experienced it with 3 man crew got two onboard but when you spawn you hear bangbang and your dead there is no time to do anything -.- respawn ignore continue voyage :")

  • @ruigtand-nl personally still yet to be spawn killed in such a manner, myself.

I usually got 3-5 seconds minimum?

But yes I have commonly heard that its largly occured. For that theres really nothing you can do about it. Just take it on the chin and stay head strong!

  • @nayfe-pacewell

I have old xbox i dunno i get black loading screen for 30 sec my friends can see me and i can hear the game but my screen still loading so as soon as i get a picrure and start moving its bangbang

  • @ruigtand-nl

Yer that was an issue for me some time ago, esspecially when around one or more other crews. Hungering deep with an entire server on one island was HELL on respawns.. ppl needing to restart game and what not.

I operate on Xbox one S not sure if the hardware is all that different.

This is common tho, I feel like they are working optimizations in as much as they can, as often as they can.

    Just hang in there!
