To people who do server takeover fleets/farm dead servers...

  • @txcrnr to be honest ive been contemplating doing this but for a pvp server where everyone just goes at it in a designated area just havent gotten around to it yet. im not really against people doing it to farm without conflict but for me it was more fun hitting pirate legend when alliances didnt exist and you had to worry thats just me. And for people who care about the gold u will make more then enough anyway but to each there own . i can understand not wanting no threats.

  • @sir-lotus Why are they not a problem? Its just a player-made PvE server. I fail to see the difference.

  • @txcrnr there's two primary differences

    1. Rare is putting no effort or ongoing resources into the current player created alliance servers.

    2. It takes a prohibitive amount of player effort to make this happen.

PVE servers would take resources from Rare and presumably allow a player to hit a single button to load up into a world alone/ a safe world. It's a perfectly reasonable position to be against rare supporting PvE servers but ok with players using the tools available to play how they want.

I'm guessing your talking about The Grind Team discord server specifically with your rant here. Which, basically only exists because of the absurd amount of effort put into it by Gory, and a handful of other people. And even so, it's rarely even a full 6 ships on the server. The other discord groups that I know of, do it on more limited basis.

All that being said, I am for changing how alliances work a bit, to make the whole dynamic more interesting.

  • @Dekeita Dekeita is right on this, it is not easy to set up, but this is not the same in Rare's eyes.
I can see the similarity in risk between PVE and a nearly fully alliance controlled server.

But I also feel that this is very akin to the first pirate legend. These people grinding in full server are not having to face the same circumstances others must on the same "grind".
I feel this is contrary to the vision the developers had for SoT, removing one aspect of danger they purposefully put in the game. But people will always look for ways to cheese.
You see the golden animal stacking threads, the server hoppers for forts, etc.

One thing that @Kat-Truewalkerr said that stood out to me is:
"A lot of PC players use discord servers for communication, either as well as or instead of game chat and a lot of the fleets have their own discord servers, this isn't a form of cheating."
    Cheating? No. But Good? No.
As I see it, when they do this, they are clearly obtaining an advantage over console players that cannot have both ingame and private chat on their system.

In game proximity chat is amazing for many reasons, and having so many in party chat and discord ignoring game chat just guts interaction in the game.
But so do people who don't use mics, so /shrug.

  • @txcrnr said in To people who do server takeover fleets/farm dead servers...:

@hynieth I am just pointing out to the people who oppose a PvE mode but participate in fleets: They are no different. You either support both or are against both, with the exception of fleets being used for purposes other than farming.

I support server take overs, but I do not support PvE servers. Look at that, I am for one and against the other... I have done the impossible!

As for why I am against PvE? Well, its a pirate game. People are getting loot illegitimately, in my eyes. Do you care if someone uses aimbots to beat skeleton ships/forts or uses wallhacks to see underwater loot? I mean, it doesn't affect you, so it must be OK, right?
EDIT: Additionally, it does affect me. Those players no longer have the chance of being on the same server as me so that I can interact with them, narrowing my pool of players to ones that are more likely to PvP- something I might not always want.

Both PvP minded and Alliance/PvE minded fleets do server take overs, for whatever their purpose is at the time. They don't care what you think, but thank you for your opinion.

  • Alliances ruined the game. Remember when someone got pirate legend first and everyone railed on him for getting boosted? Well now everyone is boosting each other and taking over servers to apply thier own rules to the game.

  • Tools not rules my friend, if players want to make their own pve server that's upto them, it's incredibly difficult to do so I applaud their efforts, it is a sandbox game afterall and upto the players to decide their style and method of playing, personally I've only bin in a full server alliance once, with a pioneer as a team mate.. And before logging off we sailed round sinking all the other ships until they all met up and left the alliance to form a new one without us in..That's what I call fun šŸ˜‚ you do you man let others do theres

  • @dyfrin Playing on a galleon with 3 friends isn't much different since half the server will actively avoid you. Galleon crews don't face the same challenges as solo players so maybe they should not be allowed to play easy mode where they can farm loot much more easily. That's definitely not fair to smaller crews and smaller ships that have a much harder time farming and grinding.

  • @txcrnr I’ve just seen this post, as it was linked by @Straw-Hat-Blake in another thread.

But this is one of the very few times I don’t actually know what to think or say. (Which for me not having a word to say is a massive rarity lol)

But the points you make about basically making a PvE server which goes against the spirit of the game I can’t argue against. Your right, on paper a PvE server does basically go against the game in its current iteration.

Yet @KattTruewalker also makes good points about using the tools available which is also a pretty pirate thing to do aswell if you think about it. Manipulating the devices you have to give yourself an advantage is not only clever but in SoT is pirate like imo.

And another contradiction for me is the Fleet events. The majority of people are against PvE servers. And im not sure where I stand on this whole debacle I feel I kind of lean to the side of no PvE at all.
But then I think of all the great fleet events by the pirate council and how they wouldn’t be possible without those methods.

I’ll be honest I’m just rambling, I don’t have any answers but this is a topic that has really got me intrigued and I honestly don’t know what to think about it.

Very intersting indeed, it’s not very often I don’t have an opinion and I don’t like it! Lol

  • @txcrnr said in To people who do server takeover fleets/farm dead servers...:

@katttruewalker It does, indeed, disadvantage me. When players farm on dead servers or fleet servers, they are no longer available on my servers, meaning that I end up with a higher chance of running into people who are just there for PvP or who don't ever carry more than a single map worth of items.

This is something that I've heard before in a different game.. "PvP players" who don't want to fight, but want easy targets instead fighting with actual PvP people.
Does the loot matter if you just get your lolz from ruining someones day? It just gets you cosmetics that you can easily buy without anyones help.

Edit: Imagine the Arena! It might be filled only with people who are there for PvP :D

  • I don’t want fleet servers I want a way to play this game and not be harassed by sweaty tryhards. It’s not enjoyable to be repetitively killed by a brig or galleon because I am a sloop. Me and my brother love this game but play on Xbox and the toxicity on this platform is so unimaginable. We can’t go 5 minutes without being attacked by a try hard group of people

  • Im allergic to Alliance servers and i love watching them getting destroyed by streamers.
Best content there is insted of "athena steals" that's gotten boring.

  • @ajm123

Oh look another "whaaaah someone enjoys the game differently than me and it's not fair!" thread.
