So it seems that Atlas have flopped Very badly

  • If some of you didn't know or might have forgot like I did is that Atlas is now out on steam but so far its a mess more less Im glad I didn't bought the game as the reviews are going Very negative with the game. From what I can gather so far is that the game had many fails of trying to launch on steam but been pushed back a few more days, when it finally released on Dec 22/23 when it was met to launch a week ago so not so great start. It only got worse however, some people who bought the game wasn't able to play it and even the servers were down for hours until they worked not something you want to hear when the game you bought doesn't work. But what makes this worst is that it seems the game Atlas is a lazy asset flip from Ark and this is a separate game from Ark by the way so your buying the same game but able to sail so its like Bethesda with Fallout 76 copying tons of assets from fallout 4 and skyrim. The list goes on as the for gameplay mechanics and so on are the same with Ark so the engine is also bad as well there isn't really anything new besides a pirate skin on it.

So overall Atlas was a total cash grab and its even proven as it was ment for a DLC for Ark but they sold it for more of the cash grab. For Sea of Thieves its original it has its own identity and have its own ideas and adventures which im glad I bought this game. What do you guys think of this mess and do you ever think it recover or not? Comment to say what your take on the game, and so fair seas to all and to all a good night.

  • Dont have much to say as I haven't played it and after watching it on twitch, it's not my thing. I did get a good laugh. Wildcard will have the last laugh though as they just dupped 1000s of people.

  • @emerald-hyper This doesn't sound surpizing. There is a reason why have the Saying " If it sounds to good to be true...". It was always dubtful that the dev would have the abilty to produce what they advertized. Thats why it's always good to adopt a wait ans see approach and why Pre-Ordering games is a bad stratergy and hurts the industry as a whole. As a cosumer you should aways go for payment upon delivery.

  • Honestly, this is not like I'm really surprised.

Well, of course I wish them the best, but at the end of the day I prefer to support Rare and a wonderful game like Sea of Thieves.

  • I played 57 minutes of it and then I refunded it.

I punched tuna, boars and dolphins.

It was a horrible experience, even for an Early Access.

    10/10 would refund again.

  • I got it and happy about it, i like Atlas, and last night the game servers was stable untill they broke, but now there up and running again.

Dont forget that SoT has problems too, easy to give another game hate when ur a fanBoy, i see positiv in both games and like them both :)

  • I've been watching video game hype getting more ridiculous for decades.

Never did any research into Atlas other than what I've read on this forum.
I just spent one year following SoT from the first Scale Test to the Shrouded Spoils update, simply because of the water.

Goes to show what a unique studio Rare is and what SoT has accomplished.

  • Never watched or played ark so I couldn't care less if it's a reskin or whatever all I know is its a cool looking pirate game, once the bugs are ironed out it looks like it'd be a really fun game but probably not one with longevity from all the stuff I hear about atlas devs, bin watching burkeblack take over an island and start to build a settlement from nothing, seems really facinating, completely different game from sot though, I can see most of sot fanbase will not be interested in this tbh if they think sot is hard they will loathe atlas 😂

  • I think Atlas could be good, it’s early days yet and i dont think it’s fair when people compare it to SoT. They are different games in every way. I for one think we should be pushing for it to do well, it would be great to have 2 games that have great sailing experiences.

  • @emerald-hyper

I played a lot of Ark despite the early problems - 10fps etc and I loved it, it was something unique and different at the time, even in Early Access.

Saying that, I've watched a lot of Atlas streams recently and I'm disappointed so far with what I'm seeing. If anyone is thinking that they can log in and immediately live the life of a pirate, then I think they're in for a bit of a surprise. The sheer amount of foraging, skills to master, materials to collect, store and process feel overwhelming. The sailing.... everything directed using HUD elements.... nope.

I think this will be a game for large groups, that perhaps a couple of months down the line there might be some piracy involved as players level up and establish their bases/forts/ships. Then how does it work for new players, coming into the world and trying to establish themselves?

I want to like it, but I don't think I can. I keep wondering what if they got rid of the progression system and allowed everyone access to all the skills immediately, would that make it feel more enjoyable? Private servers will probably be a good option, but you're immediately segregated from the rest of the player population and the possible adventures that might occur alongside them. It's just far too complex and for me that just creates a huge barrier to enjoying the game and the world.

I think I've been spoiled by Sea of Thieves, I love that you can set sail straight away, that the world is so gorgeous and immersive. It's not perfect by any means, but the game we have now compared to 9 months ago is chalk and cheese.

  • @katttruewalker i agree fully, its not got the equality stance that SoT has. But in the end it is a different type of game. I do think that it could be fun for long term players, but like you said, people that will jump in for sporodic periods of time will not get that SoT feeing.

  • @solestone563412 But heres the thing, for atlas as early access is was tested out for any bugs or problem like say for Sot that players play it first before it was launch. Another example is a game called War of Rights it was being tested by many players for almost a year or more until it was launch and it was in better working condition and this game can hold 150 players a server. But in the case for atlas if it wasnt tested then you would think it would be at least workable and stable but it wasnt from the start. In a nutshell is that Altas did a fallout76 its quite buggy, not working, copy and paste, and so on. I may be harsh but now of days in games the stander is quite low people are now trying to bring it back up so take this as my opiniin but this quite a disater atm

  • @katttruewalker not that bad as you think kat :)

  • I also bought it and, when I could finally get on one of the 4 servers in the list (really... only 4 on launch day?), I made my character, tried to play for about 10 minutes, but couldn’t even leave the starter building area. Low FPS on my RTX 2070, and tons of warping. I quit and got a refund. I played Ark for a bit and this looks and feels like an Ark reskin. Been there done that, not interested.

  • @alzheimeers said in So it seems that Atlas have flopped Very badly:

@katttruewalker not that bad as you think kat :)

    Glad to hear that :)

  • I personally will wait untill it comes out on Xbox and maybe pick it up a few weeks after that launch.

I don’t judge any games anymore during there first launch week because I can’t really think of an ambitious one that has launched smoothly yet. Including SoT.

But there is definitely some concerns around it’s launch for me. I have very little trust for WildCard and while Ark is probably one of the games I’ve put the most time into the devs cut deep.

Only time will tell for me.

@DuMy2008 I think you have hit the nail on the head with what you said about long term players.
Like Ark I feel it’s one of those games where it will be like a full on commitment untill you have finally had enough.
I think that’s what will separate SoT from Atlas I believe SoT is more casual where Atlas will be for the hardcore players who jump right into it.

  • @katttruewalker the only thing that makes the game rly unplayable is the spawning on beds not working so you can loose stuff

  • That company should be ashamed of their shady tactics... Let's make a totally "NEW" IP but in reality it's just Ark (literally has a secret Ark menu, has Ark files) and release it around Christmas to make the most money out of everybody... This stuff has got to stop... If they made it a DLC for Ark or kept it in the Ark IP that's fine, but they sold it as something "NEW" and nice false advertising trailer btw. Some people also found out that this was actually supposed to be an Ark DLC but the company wouldn't make money from people who bought the Ark season pass so hey let's screw them over and not give them a new DLC and let's trick everyone else into buying this junk

  • i heard of it, watched the trailer and the second the giant 3 headed hydra like dragon was attacked by pirate ships it wasnt a pirate game anymore. then ragnaros shows up and i am like 'yep, we are done here.' whoever bought it, thinking it was a pirate game, my condolences, you were bad informed or lied to.
