Ambience vs fun ?

  • I’m a big fan of this game.
The ambience of this game is amazing, we’re all agree with that. The graphics, the game design, the sound direction, the musics, the Easter eggs to the community... wow !
But, don’t forget your players, guys. We want to have fun with your contents.
I know that your wish is to put some content into the game and let the players make their own adventures with their friends. And it works !... sometimes.
    But please, help us.
Resolving riddles is quite fun. Finding chests on islands is still nice. Even after 700 hours of gameplay.
But is it fun to complete a 45-50 voyage (what ever the kind of voyage is) with all these skellies poping constantly ?
Athena’s quests are fun ? Just too long.
Were Merrick’s quests really fun ?
What about megalodons now ? Boring and useless.
The Thrones ? The Statues ? Skellies Ships ?
Everything is cool when new but after, I guess that nobody can say he has fun to do one of these things after completing them several times.
Forsaken shores ? Seriously, did you guys, play to your contents before sending them to us ?
Who can say that it’s fun and that you take pleasure to go in the Devil’s Roar ? Once again the ambience is super cool and you made a great job with that but it’s unplayable. Rowboats are useless, uncontrollable and unrepairable. Volcanoes are waaay to frustrating because of all the community says before me. And what about the future expeditions for the merchants ? I’m sure it’ll be fun doing them 3 times and what about after that ?

So you gave us a wide world full of dangers, threats with an amazing ambience where we have to make our own stories. We got the point. But we need things to make them funny and have fun to play !
So please, dear developers, did you understand that we don’t necessarily want more threats for a while but more fun contents to make our stories, like :
    Mini dice games, or cards
    Fishing
    Cooking
    Constructions
More personalizations of our character and boat
    More instruments and musics
    Make taverns useful
    Pets
    More emotes
    More interactions
    Etc...
I’m sure some of these things will appear in a few months but still. Make our priorities become yours...

    I love you Rare !

  • Fishing, cooking, ship customizatoin are coming "soon"
Pets and more instruments will come

Most of the things you are asking for were confirmed by devs.

  • @guepard4 I know and I said it. But we all ask that for months now. And I say that before new content without any fun at all, these little things should have been their priorities...

  • @ia-sardine just on the subject of row boats. I'm liking them, they're certainly not useless in my opinion. There's all kinds of shenanigans that you can get up to with them, you just need to be creative.

Pro tip, they're practically invisible unless you're looking for them and you can barely hear them dock to your ship unless you are expecting them.

They should be repairable though. Not while at sea perhaps, but you should be able to repair them on the beach and when docked, maybe at a cost of 3 or 4 planks to return to 100% condition.

  • @ia-sardine i guess you have the same problem i had with the rawboat before finding out that with Q and E on pc you can brake. So for example if you hold Q and use D you will turn around without moving. Same if you are going fast and hit just one of the "breaks" you will do like a hand breaking into a car. I had very hard time to maneuver them before, now it's super funny. Don't know the controls for the xbox

  • Me wants to be pirate, not chef or cook. Will you demand for cleaning up, ironing...? This is NOT what I wanna do. I want to have cosmetics, hair, nails, diamond rings!

Btw. don't forget us girls, you write "guys" all the time.

I will try that ! Thank you for taking time to explain that !

« Guys » is used when you talk to people. Do not see a discrimination in me words.
But if I understand, you don’t want to be a cook because you want to be a pirate, but you want to make some shopping instead... Yes, you’re a girl...

  • I think most would agree the skelly ships are still fun, but stocking the boat to take them on is not. That is the biggest reason most people don't do them anymore. They just don't want to spend an hour or so stocking their ship to proper levels to take on the skelly ships. Honestly, if it were not for stocking the boat, I would go after them every time I saw a cloud.

  • What good is a list of suggestions if there are no descriptors as to why and/or what is needed?

Besides, much of these have already been confirmed as future features. Fishing has been heavily teased since it was first brought up by the playerbase. Cooking I'm less enthusiastic about personally as a concept, but that's just me.

Constructions? This isn't Fortnite. And what use do we have of setting up forts or camps when outposts are never too far away, and sailing at night makes little difference to sailing during the day?

More instruments and music are on the way. Fiddles have been teased since E3 2015, while relatively soon we're getting the new Forsaken Shores shanty.

What do you mean by "make Taverns more useful?" Mini-games? More NPCs?

Pets are also in the pipeline.

What sorts of emotes were you thinking of? Interactions?

And new ship cosmetics have already been "accidentally leaked" by rare many times since Cursed Sails. Cannon customization is on its way, as are options for the Capstan.

I may be miss-remembering but I always thought that after Cursed Sails skeleton ships were meant to be random events like the Kraken. Which would be excellent.

I've always thought they would also make a very good "target of opportunity". I'd love to see them surfacing near one skull fort, sailing across the sea then submerging near another fort. They're out there as a random encounter and if you take them down you get a nice little reward.

But at the moment they are a completely under used resource. I've seen quit a lot of active "Sail Clouds" and never anyone rushing to the area. The time investment vs reward just doesn't stack up.

  • @kungfustu72 you are correct. I think that is the ultimate goal based on what joe has said. But for now it is what it is. I think the issue is more a coding/technical issue. Not being from that work I have no idea why. But that is their stated goal that they become more random encounter like the meg or kraken.

  • @ia-sardine Hm, that's not how I feel it. "Guy" is closer to "bloke", it's not neutral, like "people" is. You will never adress a group of women as "Guys". You must be a boy, I guess.

  • @goedecke-michel I think it depends on the vernacular amongst your social group. "Guys" can refer to men, can refer to people irrespective of gender or could just be referring to two fellas whose first names are both Guy.

In general, as a term used to refer to a group of people irrespective of gender it is regarded as a term that suggests a certain endearment or closeness amongst that group. Certainly it's more familiar than using terms like "them" or "you people" which have a somewhat unfriendly air to them.

I know of some women who dislike being referred to as "girls"

  • @boxcar-squidy sagte in Ambience vs fun ?:

I know of some women who dislike being referred to as "girls".

Just call them women. I would never call a man boy, either. Lol.

  • @goedecke-michel I do. That's my point though, these are people I know, so I know what they find respectful and disrespectful and I adhere to their preferences.

A lot of people wouldn't be upset by being called guys, some would.

Is it probably best to avoid the term, or is it best to avoid being offended by the term unless the term was said with the intent of causing offence?

That's up to each individual to decide for themselves in my view.

I will try to avoid use of "guys" as a collective term irrespective of gender when posting from now on, as your post has highlighted to me that the term has echos of patriarchy, whatever its modern usage may be.

However compromise is a two-way street, and there's a lesson to be learned in attempting understand the intent behind the words rather than being offended only because of how the words resonate with your own lived experience.

  • @goedecke-michel Just curious, but where are you from. The only reason I ask is that the term guys does tend to change meaning a little depending on how it is used, and maybe that is just based on where you are from. I know that I have used the term guys when I really meant group of peeps that I enjoy being around.

  • @nofears-fun europe.

  • @goedecke-michel I am from the USA. I can tell you that guys is used quite often over here as a term meant for a group of friends you are with or addressing. It is absolutely not meant to be offensive.

  • @nofears-fun as far as the group contains men and women, it is commonly used but really out dated in use. Because it is a word that adresses men and ignores the presence of women. A guy is a man, afaik. Saying "Hi, guy, how are you" to a single woman will be missplaced, wouldn't it? Not meant badly. Just my thoughts, sister. :)

  • @goedecke-michel I understand what you are saying, but I will disagree as it is never meant in disrespect and is never taken that way by the groups that I refer to when using it. This is my last comment on it as we have gone well off target of the original post.

  • @nofears-fun sagte in Ambience vs fun ?:

Just ask them :). And yes, I wont miss no more answers on this, either. Have fun out at sea!

  • @goedecke-michel You've really never seen a girl turn to a group of other girls and say "Hey, you guys..."?

"Guys" is very commonly used to refer even to groups of just females.
