Can we just acknowledge that Rare seems to have no idea where the Glowing Skeleton Bug is coming from.

  • Rare, can you please tell us what exactly caused this bug to start happening? Also, no-one seems to be wondering why Rare even has a glowing skeleton thing in their game, cause people don't just 'turn' into glowing skeletons, the design has to come from somewhere.

  • Are you a game dev? Do you know something Rare doesn't?

    Here use this: https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/requests/new

  • Really who cares? Its hilarious and hardly game breaking!
Perhaps they also find it funny so it's staying.

  • if I remember correctly the "skeleton" you speak of is the player hit detection / hit box in the game. The skeleton is always there, your just not able to see it until the comical glitch happens. XD

  • I thought they fixed thIs issue in 1.2.5. I went back and read the release notes, looks like they removed the fixed issue line but they forgot to add it to the know issues list lol. Kind of funny a game based around cosmetics and half the time I'm a skeleton and u can't see my cosmetics. Rofl

  • @treefittymonsta Well, isn't it the best cosmetic so far?

  • @becausescience1 Well, there are probably far far bigger priorities to work on. Besides, does it really hinder game play at all?

My bet would be that it was designed to be an option/effect to turn in to a skellie somehow, but just hasn't been expanded on and just happens to have been revealed through an unexpected bug.

    Personally I quite enjoy it!

  • Personally I would love it if it was turned into a feature, that being the llace takes on a skeletal appear, but still dons their hair and outfit. Like it could be the result of a special cursed chest you could dig up; that would leave you cursed like that until it is turned in/returned to it’s (so called) rightful owner.

  • I quite like the skellie skin but it needs to be a controllable option. make it so, rare.

  • @becausescience1 Well even i know where this bug is coming from, so i doubt Rare doesn't know.

Anyway, Every player model in the game is actually a skelleton this makes it easier to have one model that works on every type of pirate that handles hit registration, collision and item handling.

The skelleton gets covered with the pirate you chose at the start of the game, which can differ from being extremely skinny to basicly a human cannonball, however nothing has to be rewritten code wise because it is just a visual overlay.

Now comes the bug, this is player specific because if i see you as a green glowing skelleton somebody else or you yourself might not see it that way.
This tells us it is a loading/rendering issue that is mostly client side but might have something to do with Server to client communication.

Loading of the pirate model fails on your client (or the client that sees the green skelly) and instead of showing nothing at all it shows the base model that is usually covered up by some virtual skin.

This Bug started showing up more and more since the release of the Cursed Sails, an update which also messed with Forts and the Kraken.

    Now here comes my speculation:

All this tells me that the skelly ships put alot of strain on the servers (something which has been acknowledged by the devs already) and made it so that the playermodel requests fail more often.

however it could also be that they are working with more in depth customisation of your character which messes with this, as was the case with the Spydong incident of '18 which was caused by them trying to add the "Hand over chest/loot" action and that messing with the placement/animation of certain items.
