The Scurvy Bilge Rats, why so expensive?

  • Ok, this has been in my head for a moment or so, but does anyone know why are the 'Scurvy Bilge Rat' items (Sails, Hull, Attire, etc.) is the most expensive thing to buy in the game?

Even when Cursed Sails introduce sails 99.9% of there items (again, Sails to Attire), the Scurvy Bilge Rat items were still the same (i.e. in particular, the ship's body customization):
Scurvy Bilge Rat Hull - 140,000
Scurvy Bilge Rat Sails - 140,000
[When all the other ship items in particular are now 49,000 or less]

I'm curious is anyone knows why it's the most valuable thing in the game. That's already 250,000+ gold going down the drain.

UPDATE - Turns out, the Scurvy Bilge Rats items (attire, hull, sails, etc.) are not the most expensive, but items when getting Pirate legends are. Thank you for those clarifying that to me. What I’ve should've said was when it comes to the regular items that you can get at the Weaponry, Shipwrights, etc.. My bad for some confusion on my part.

  • @prorapidkiller That's a good question. I have the entire set and nothing outside of it price is special which it's not limited to just the boat cosmetics. So i look at it as a sign of wealth. I think it was a bug as other items were higher price and they brought them down to match except for the scurvy bilge rat. It could just been an oversight which im not sure how this wasn't noticed yet, but maybe it was intentional since they added duke which is an actual Bilgerat. Let the wild Speculations and Theories begin.

  • To show off, I got Gold for Decades.... ?!

  • honestly, the prices, in my opinion, are perfectly warranted. We have the opportunity to earn a boatload of doubloons in these skeleton commendations alone.

  • I honestly don't care paying more for this hull and sails. They are seriously the best in game IMHO.

I mean look at this! It's EPIC! :-P

There are 4 initial "themes" of sets. Bilge Rat, Sea Dog, Sovereign, Admiral.
While 3 of them have one set that's "harder to get" 'cause of high reputation requirements, the Bilge Rat sets aren't tied to any reputation so gold is the trade-off.

It isn't. Pirate Legend figurehead, hull and sails cost 300.000 gold each. Athena stuff is half a million per item.

  • Yeah I bought the entire clothes, weapons, equip set...it gets pricey...the bucket it like 6k, the hat 27k I think...but golly does my pirate look like a pirate lol

I came here to say this ^

I agree, when i was new at the game around launch i felt that the prices was crazy and would never be able to own anything(then it still was 70k or 140k per item) but now however after progression in the various factions the pricing is actually well balanced, i even think 49k as they are on sale is a bit low.

You can easily make 30k+ gold in a few hours so it's not even hard to earn gold anymore once you progress in the game as it should be.

  • @eviltortoise yeah and doubloons are easy to obtain in this event as well. I bought all of Duke's boat cosmetics and still ended the event with 240 doubloons.

  • @Packaged-Food @EvilTortoise This post is about the Bilge Rat ship decals found at the shipwright. Not the items the Duke sells that require doubloons.

  • @dcr-lt-kanada I apologize for the misunderstanding. but I haven't seen any bilge rat ship cosmetics at the shipwright only at Duke. Maybe I'm missing something?

  • @packaged-food Next time you log in check the clothing shop and shipwright. There are Bilge Rat items in there.

  • @dcr-lt-kanada huh. I did not know that; thanks for the info.

  • Do you want to know why the Bilge Rats are expensive , Sir? Well, old George can tell you ( - Oh no , what's got into him today? He can hardly stand on his feet from tiredness but he keeps meddling and messing up people's topics. * Well, Captain Tearface , he's happy that it's weekend and don't have to see those piggyfaced bosses anymore for three lovely pirating days, that's why...). Real pirates want to be scruffy looking, raw , wild , pure , unwashed unshaved , stinking from old sweat that has sucked into those ragged clothes for months...Admiral Pirates ? Pfffft , How can there be Admiral Pirates in a Pirate Fleet ? There was never a Pirate Navy....So , the real pirate dresses Bilge Rat as a representation of the middlefinger towards all goverments or rules.....We are Pirate , We are FREEEEEEEE!!!!! We sail Upstream and against the current ...We don't have the wit or will to end this journey, we continuing travelling towards our Fate ....We WILL be Bilge Rat's Pirates for LIFE....Step away, Admiral and Sovereign , before i put your fancy looking cloths in a barrel filled with rotten fish....

  • @violentandroid Yep, I'm in the process of doing the exact same thing - I have so many choices, that my friends say I'm a different pirate every time they see me.

As for the Scurvy Bilge Rat stuff being more expensive, I thought that it went up in price because it wasn't a complete set - there's no Scurvy Bilge Rat cutlass, for example. However, there are other sets that are also incomplete now, and are not as expensive. Besides, even if this was the case, you'd think incomplete sets would be cheaper, not more expensive.

In any case, I'd really like to have the developers input on this decision.

  • Prices are fine and it’s not the most expensive thing in the game.GHOST SHIP PRICES ARE THE MOST EXPENSIVE!

  • @hynieth I’ll check it out when I can’t get it. I like the Ceremonial Admiral one in the game though.

  • @crimsonraziel Well now since you explain about the Pirate Legend things, then that’s understandable. I should’ve been more specific with my post, but I meant by just regular (no pirate legend).
    :-)

  • For those of you who still don't know, the scurvy bilge rat set is the exact same set that Duke has. Duke is a scurvy bilge rat and he is the last one that anyone knows of, that is why it's so expensive, not because of how it looks, but because of the background to it, just like the killer whale ship.

    Wrong on 3 accounts:

    1. It's not Duke's set - after all, we don't have his vest or tattoos.
    2. The reason it's more expensive has already been explained above by @Crimsonraziel.
    3. You revived a 12-month old thread.
  • Duke's vest is this thread's phylactery

  • The filthy bilge rats over charge for everything... horribile rusted, old , worn out equipment they want a fortune for.

If only i could join a faction that hates bilge rats........

Bah! A little rust adds character! You say 'worn out' we say 'storied'!

I see you're interested in this eyepatch made of ancient grundies... That'll be all your gold please. Thank you!

  • @bactatankbill
Lol i dont know why but i truly hate the bilge rats. Trashy gear, always drunk, charging me 50 dabloons for a figurehead....
The nerve of these guys. Maybe i need to read the lore about them so i know more
