Change Character Body

  • Hello There,
will be there a feature to change the Characters Body Type? I not that happy any more with my Character.

Maybe for RL-Money or much Ingame - Gold, maybe an alchemy quest. But I want to change my Character without loosing all of my Progression.

  • @saphispacegoat Cmon, don't be too harsh to your pirate; you've been through thick and thin, done the impossible together, and sunk hours and hours into this wonderful game known as Sea of Thieves. Your character might not look good but he/she is yours and isn't like any other character on the seven seas. And please don't call me a nerd for comparing Sea of Thieves to real life, but in the real world you don't get to change how you are either; you may change your hair, maybe even get plastic surgery - but in the end you're still the same person. My favourite quote of all time is "Play the cards you're dealt" and I think it applies to Sea of Thieves too; just because you're the ugliest pirate out there, it doesn't mean that you can't be the king of PvP.

  • @spunkus-skunkus this ist not the thing, but in Real-Life I can do something If I'm fat/not fat.

The thing is, every pice of cloth looks terrible on my character, but the char has a nic e face. But im very unhappy about the Body

The saying "play the cards you're dealt" does not apply here, though. The game gives us the ability to choose our character's body before we ever set sail. That makes the premise, that we're all dealt random characters that we just have to live with, false.

I think Rare could stand to make a nice lump of money, by giving sailors the option to pay (real world money) to get the character-selection wheel again, without resetting player progression. It could also solidify a player's desire to continue sailing on the Sea of Thieves, by upping the monetary investment by the player, and allowing them to adjust their character more-to their liking.

Remember too, North Americans had a boat load of issues even getting the button to 'set sail' on release day. I've known of quite a few pirates who selected the first character-option available, either by accident or from trying to hurry in to the game for the first time.

Exactly the same. I couln't know that my pirate cant wear all the clothes I planned to buy. But in fact, he looks terrible in all the sets I want, and thats a problem.

False, I saw yet 5 pairs or pirates that look exactly the same of someone of my crew, and more that really resembles one of them a lot. The IPG is not so random at all, so maybe the ability to use it more times could give the players that are not comfortable with their pirates a tool to improve their game experience, while mantaining the "exclusivness" of the characters we all choose. Exclusivness that actually dont exist.

Personally I have been very happy with my character, though some of the clothes just don't work on her. (I wish we could try before we buy) I did take a long time before I made my final choice knowing what I picked was "it".
I wouldn't mind if people who are less than happy with their characters could pay to re-roll without losing their experience. If that improved their enjoyment of the game, why not?
Maybe it isn't possible because of the game mechanics, I don't know.

  • Just a statment, will be enough for me, if a feature like this will come in future or not. So I konw if reset or not.

The metaphor still stands; the players in the IPG are the cards which you have been dealt, you as the player get to decide which one to play.

But regardless of what metaphor I use to describe this situation you're entitled to your own opinion just as I am to mine. Me, being someone who took time to choose my character, feels as if everyone should've done the same too. Trying to get into the game quicker is no excuse for ruining the entirety of your experience because you chose a pirate you're unhappy with.
Sea of Thieves has made no promises (ever) to give players the option to change the body type of their character, so I find it immature that players are expecting something that has never been teased before or even mentioned at the very least.

If you truly hate the way that your character looks then either restart the game or don't play it at all; the longer you put it off, the more you'll progress in the game and the harder it will be for you to start over. Or yknow, you could just deal with it.

P.S and speaking on behalf of most people on the Sea of Thieves (I hope), nobody cares how your character looks; regardless of whether it's fat or skinny, if you're wearing the Athena Ten clothing, we're going to treat you like a legend.

  • +1
    Iwant this.
I own a lot of clothes and would probably wear more options if i could just change my char body build. i want it to be like the hair. Also bring in race color selection too because well..... my guy wants a tan!

This post right here would make me want to quit playin all together. It is most definitely up to the devs to stay up to date in the modern age of gaming to keep gamers interested. In this modern age of games customization is a everthing if not the biggest deal in any game. and if the only way to get what we want in this game is to delete our whole progress just for a new looking charecter then well it isn't that great of a layout. Just my 2cents.

I spinned the IPG for 2h. My girlfriend, 1 and a half more. A friend of mine, 1h, and restarted at about 20s. Another 1 and a half. Still, none of us like our chars. You had luck, congratulations, but I buy the game to play it, not to spend a week chosing the avatar. The IPG is not for a game where you spend nearly 1 thousand hours to reach the end game, I think thats simple enough to understand.

The IPG is a wonderfull tool for picking your history of the day, not of the @#$%& years that the game could live, and thats not about opinions, is common sense that with a randomiced system, maybe there are other ones that didn't have luck, and nobody enjoys wasting the time after work in chosing an avatar despite disconnecting playing a game.

  • I didn’t even know you can create a character when I first logged in.

I’m stuck with like a 80 year old
    Super skinny dude..

But over time I’ve come to like him

  • @spunkus-skunkus The dev's never teased AI skeleton ships either, until they were convinced upon popular request. Nobody is expecting anything. This is the Feedback & Suggestion area of the forums, and the OP made a good suggestion. Yes, you are entitled to your own opinion, just as we all are. There is no need for your attempted ad hominem.

  • Now i goat a new Character.... i can bet a feature like this will come next patch.

  • @amancebacabras i really like the look of my pirates atm hes amazing since im full bonecrusher and ppl i met ( when i dont sink them ) wow where u get this sniper or this shovel its always nice ^^ specially with the bone boat

  • @spectrazy666 The bonecrusher set fits awkward in mine T_T

  • @amancebacabras yep i understang my friend pirate is fat and ... dont look great lol u should lose weigh when u run a lot lol should be nice and If u eat too much banana ur getting bigger

  • @saphispacegoat I'm a completionist, so with nearly all the cosmetics and commendations unlocked I refuse to delete my char with so much content that I can't earn with other one

  • @glannigan i like the extra skinny and fatty ones, even i love how clumsy the charakters run n move in sot.

  • I'd personally be fine with them adding one of two things to help fix this issue, as even though I really like my pirate lady, there's times where I would like to play a different looking pirate.

The two possible solutions for this are:

    1. Introduction of a "Re-Roll" mechanic, where you keep your progress, but can spend either a ton of in game currency or a bit of real world money to reroll your pirate and select a new one, as if you're starting anew. Progress is kept, all cosmetics are kept, but your pirate gets a facelift for a nominal fee.

    2. Extra Pirate Slot. Basically, you buy a second slot for a new Pirate. You get to select a new one, and maintain progress, while keeping the pirate you already have as well. Only one extra slot could be purchased of course, and would cost real world money only.

  • Yeah let us change our model and not lose progress. I know a few people who are not happy with their character and it bothers them every time they play. Why can't we just re-open the character carousel and pick a new one without losing progress? Is it that hard to put in?

I think that this is the better solution.

The worst part is the silence. At the beta the IPG was a problem and they put the "lock slot" feature, and, despite that, they were more communicative about the character customization. Now they, for some reason, stay silent about the possibility to reroll the characters, thats the biggest problem.

If they say "is not comming", or "its going to be at some point", could prevent a lot of "damage" the people could do to their progress exausted with the aspect of the playable character. But now, we have a lot of people like the op deleting their progress without knowing if this feature is comming this year, the next year, or never. I dont thing is so hard for the Rare's side to talk about this with the teases about dyes and makeup, at least a vague hint or something.

  • I think the best solution is to use mechanics already in the game. For example.

The pirate carousel could be used for each user, to make up to 5 characters; while keeping the same rep level. Anytime u log on, you can equip any 1 of the 5 created characters. Allowing you to make/delete as wanted.

It's already a part of the game, just requires some polishing to fit a new focus.

  • @amancebacabras I was almost Legendary, but I disliked my character.

  • @saphispacegoat And I am, and that, with all the cosmetics from THD, all from the bilgerats adventures, all of the Cursed Sails ones, and nearly all of the "basics" purchased with Cursed Sales, is what is pushing me against deleting a pirate that dont fit in any costume but have nearly all of the game unlocked. I liked him, really, but I hate him now a lot cause all the sets I purchased aren't made for this type of body.

This is prettymuch what I want to see happen. I don't really think it would necessarily be a bad idea either, as they could literally just charge a small amount of money to unlock it. I personally love character creation, and like I said before, I really like my pirate lady, but I would also like to have the ability to play as different looking pirates from time to time.

It took my like 40 minutes to decide what pirate I wanted, and by only getting one choice, I had to lose the other 3 I had my eyes on... I would have loved to play as a guy who looked like Marshall D. Teach from One Piece, but sadly I lost that opportunity once I selected my fearsome looking pirate lady instead. Having additional slots for playable pirates would be a welcome addition, even if you could only have 3 max. I'd even be willing to pay for the extra slots if need be.

  • Just bumping up this.
A fat character was fun to look at when the game released but as the skins gets better and better as a fat character you cant wear them properly.
So when your poor it doesnt matter the bodysize but the moment you got cash to make your pirate look rather handsome you cant make that happend, example is the belt; on a fat character its more like a metal beam around your waist, nothing slick and fancy.

As the main post said, I wouldnt mind paying a few irl buck to be able to change my character ( in the same way I dont mind paying a small sum to change my gamertag)

  • im already PL athena 6 and don't want to delete my pirate just to make him skinny, if there was an option to change i would do it instantly. My character is so fat its impossible to hide anywhere and all clothing looks really stretched

  • @violentandroid this is the perfect solution, i thought of something like this a couple of months ago but didn't know about the SoT forums at the time. First character re-roll could be for free and then maybe you could unlock additional ones for a small fee? 10k gold? 20k gold? I wouldnt mind being a small skinny guy since i do a lot of pvp and like to hide on player ships to steal their athenas.

  • I get the issue with not really being happy with your one character.

I sacked my pirate three days after launch for a re-do on the IPG. I knew I'd get OCD over my toon if I didn't.
    Very happy that I did.

I think Rare wants each toons experience to have value, even if the player is dissatisfied with his pirates look.

Either Rare can offer a one-time IPG spin for purchase when they implemented microtransactions or open another character slot for players.

  • @barnabas-seadog I dont think PLs are "willing" to do it all, all over again (we could delete it but no one wants to loose their rank)
