Nitpicks about the Brigantine...

  • ...that probably don't really matter

I, like many pirates in the Sea of Thieves, am grateful for the Brigantine, but I just wanted to put some of the (extremely) minor nuances that I have about the speedy 2 mast ship.

1.) The banana barrel is farther placed that on other ships. - It bugs me how the barrel is in the far back on the Brigantine while on the sloop it's the first thing you get when below decks, and on the Galleon the first barrel you see when going down the stairs.

2.) The map's placement - The world map is a bother to try and run back and forth towards to, given that it's at the front of the ship. While it may be too far in to change, it'd feel a bit better if the brig on the Brig swapped places with the map table.

These are some of the (extremely) minor quarrels that I have with the Brigantine's designs. Feel free to share your other nitpicks about it, or point out how trivial this is.

  • below deck feels a little claustrophobic IMO

  • Personally I’m not too fond of the brigs squishy nature.

  • The brigantine is an absolute mess.

    These are mine!

    1. No bed, it gets in the way of fixing holes at the back.
    2. Map table and the brig should swap places.
    3. Pointless barrels down stairs are not necessary.
    4. The staircase opening is too small and easily missed.
    5. WHY OH WHY would they have the ladder to the crows nest at the top of the stair case?! Ridiculous. At least put the ladder the other side of the mast.
    6. The ship itself is so low that at most outposts you can't even jump off and onto the dock.
    7. The lack of height means it's near impossible to see over choppy waves.
    8. The gap between the bottom of the sail and the top of the deck is so small that you can't see anything while on the wheel... honestly this is the same for all the ships but why not improve it with the new one?

I feel like I could go on....
I understand the demand for a new ship was there but they should have put more time into it and getting feedback. I am amazed it was released like it is.

I like that is in the back. It's very convenient that the armory is close by. I won't trade it with the barrel o' planks.

The map table can be seen from the opening in front of the upper deck. The fact that the map table is in the front makes this ship more appropriate for players who already have their sea legs.

I've thought about this one. I think if they just spun the staircase around (rearranging ballast barrels as necessary), it would alleviate at least this problem with the ship.

For example, coming down the crow's next ladder would no longer drop straight into the belly of the ship but instead to the stop of the stairs (if you miss the little platform that's currently there).

I'm not sure there's much to do about the map table because it is very intentionally placed below the grating so you can can peek down at it from the front of the ship. If they move the table, they have to move the grating, which likely means re-positioning the masts... you see where this is going! A complete redesign of the ship XD

There is a grate that also looks down into the brig, so if they switched places, the grates wouldn’t have to be moved at all. Easy peasy.

  • *the fact that you get hit with a cannonball and get knocked off almost all the time.

    • contract table behind the stairs is in a dumb place. Especially while trying to patch holes.
*the fact that if you have gun powder barrels in the crows nest and an enemy happened to get on board. They can easily ignite it and drop it right down the stairs to the lower deck.
  • There is definitely a grate above the brig so wouldn't be an issue to swap them.

There should be some kind of canopy (something similar to the sloop) over the wheel so you can at least jump up to see over waves and have somewhere to go to avoid sniping while in PvP.
You're so exposed and yes... every cannonball sends you into the sea 😆

  • The latter's are poorly placed. If you are being attacked and trying to steer and defend the ship. Others can approach almost every time without detection, board and drop the anchor. It is nearly impossible to stop because of the latter placement.

  • My nitpick is if im in a sloop solo i have 0 chance of outmaneuvering a brigantine. I love its speed when im on one just for the sake of getting place to place but in combat it is way too strong. Either all the ships need a speed upgrade or the brig needs slowed down hopefully the first option. I caught a headwind in the sloop after dropping my enemy's anchor and it still caught up within a minute.

    RE: Brigantine.

    Hmm I think ...

    1. Remove the bed.
    2. The map chart table should move to where the bed currently is. Just away from all walls. Similar to the sloop.
    3. Move the vote table up front where the map chart currently is. This is only useful at the start of a voyage and otherwise taking up valuable real estate.
    4. The ammo crate and armory locker could go beside the stairs in place of the useless partition wall.
    5. Banana barrel should be where the ammo and armory currently are.
    6. Move the main mast forward a few feet. This was a given after moving the crow's nest and ladder from the original blue print.
    7. And I can't stress this enough, make all barrels on all ships, storage space or remove them completely!!!
  • I agree! The brigantine is my favourite ship size-wise, but it's not logical at all.

    1. The map should be where the brig is. It's too far!
    2. There should be a lantern where the bell is on the mast, so the middle of the ship has light at night.
    3. The captain's table needs to be moved. It sucks when a hole gets blown in the hull behind it. Too hard to fix.
    4. It would be cool if the anchor was closer to the wheel.
  • I agree with most of the posts above about the below-deck area being cluttered and a mess. The fact that you have to stand on the bed, or manoeuvre a complete obstacle course to stand behind the map table to patch some holes, is a nightmare.

I would prefer to see the brig and map table swapped. Or nestle the brig behind the stairs, under the wheel.

I would also prefer to see the mast ladder shifted to one side or the front of the mast. As it is, if you drop a powder keg down through the lubbers' hole, it will drop straight down onto the stairs.

The other disadvantage of the brig is that it is now to the "go to" ship for a group of three. It used to be that you might get online and see a mate sailing in a crew of three in a galleon, and you could ask if they need someone to fill the empty slot. Now, there are less opportunities for that.
