  • sea of thieves is all about balance. it very much is but at the same time very much not.

we've all had dreams of fighting pirates in a mighty battle on our masts and deck. on land and in outposts.

the movies would show epic sword fights, each player defeating and countering and occasionally nicking each other. the game is balanced in the fact everyone does the same damage. that's good. but...

BLOCKING! who here honestly can say every fight they have had that blocking was very prominent and successful. no one. you swing your sword and it takes 2 seconds till you block. then it takes a second to attack. blocking is useless against a gun as well and especially thrusts. there is a dodge button but that still not very useful.

how do you fix it? simple. make swords block ALL attacks and only half damage on a thrust and you make the timing to block instant unless you have just thrusted or been stunned. (wouldnt mind it if blunderbusses had a much longer load time too).

heres an example on how everyone plays sea of thieves. blunderbuss shot, sword swing or blunderbuss shot...

flintlocks are useless unless against gunpowder skellies and snipers only for long ranged moments (very few moments).

blunderbusses need to be balanced. blockable and with slower reload times. and make flintlocks a bit more powerful.

also make ammo buy able and not infinite too (have say 100 to start with). might also be an idea to make everything buyable in the game. cannon balls? 100 gold for 50, wood planks? 50 for 50 and bananas? 30 for 20 etc etc.

but skeleton ships are way too over powered without enough players and many can agree that they dont have time for certain ships. so for those people who can get on from time to time. but have to sail solo because no one else in the server will do that ship. make combat better. not easier by any means. but actually responsive. pirates need to use their cutlasses. not just there blunders.

another point to make is that when a player goes against 2 players. no matter how skilled, if he/she is surrounded their dead 100% allow them to block behind by looking up and front. stunning the 2 players allowing time to get an attack and vice versa. then its down to player skill.

what do you guys think? it would certainly improve the games annoying unresponsive moments

  • So.......We should be able to block a blunderbuss?

    Really?

A blunderbuss is pretty much a shotgun, you saying we should be able to block a shotgun with a sword?

Also if you get surrounded by two people then of course you should lose.

Also if they change it So that you purchase ammo, planks etc. That means Pirate Legends have a huge advantage, as by that time they have millions in gold.

  • @sillyninja65 errrrrrrrrr.....no

I block a lot of attacks and counter attack right after. It's quite satisfying and blocking is as quick as pressing the right mouse button so takes less then a second.

Nah swords don't need it. Guns can barely hit a moving pirate and when up close thre's almost no chanse to shoot.

Well I must not be everyone then.

flintlocks are useless unless against gunpowder skellies and snipers only for long ranged moments (very few moments).

I use Sword EoR combo almost exclusively, pistols ans EoR are great for those long range snipes and combat underwater where the blunderbuss is really bad.

blunderbusses need to be balanced. blockable and with slower reload times. and make flintlocks a bit more powerful.

Blunderbuss has been nerfed it's still a one shot wonder if you bop up close but honestly you're dead by that time.

No, just no Rare has already stated that the game progression is tied to your stock. You start empty and while voyaging you stock up.
Me and my crew stock up within 15 minutes form standard stock to full so it really isnt hard or time consuming.

but skeleton ships are way too over powered without enough players and many can agree that they dont have time for certain ships. so for those people who can get on from time to time. but have to sail solo because no one else in the server will do that ship.

Let me paragraph this, it's a complete derailment of the topic and now you loop back.
A Galleon can do the skeleton ships easy, you don't need allies just 3 others who are willing to join and lo and behold the official SoT discord along with others have plenty of ways to find these groups.

make combat better. not easier by any means. but actually responsive. pirates need to use their cutlasses. not just there blunders.

There are people complaing about the Cutlass being OP the EoR being OP and the Blunderbuss so I guess everything is Op so nothing is?

How about not getting into fights with 2 people and letting yourself get surrounded? You've got a huge jump ability that can clear a pirates head with ease.

I disagree with you and I gave you some point on why.

  • Just take Vermintide 2's melee mechanics and apply them to SoT. Profit..

  • @sillyninja65 sword attack use block, gun attack use a banana. Lunge attack use your leg(s) to get out the way

  • Please don't take this personal, but don't believe you have a great grasp of the PVP Climate in this game.

No, on the grounds of being silly in concept. I get it that this is a game, but if I want to watch people blocking bullets, I will watch anime. This pretty much makes guns obsolete in PVP.

heres an example on how everyone plays sea of thieves. blunderbuss shot, sword swing or blunderbuss shot...

Heres an example of how every BAD player plays sea of thieves. This is why people are able to run around ships and not die. Unless your standing shoulder to shoulder, blunderbuss damage is horrendous. Players can keep running and eat bananas, you can't reliable kill someone chasing them with a sword unless they get caught up in a corner. I've done this to the point of I just stopped attacking and kept moving while players try to chase me down with swords. Sure blunderbuss can one shot, but usually only works on unaware people.

flintlocks are useless unless against gunpowder skellies and snipers only for long ranged moments (very few moments).

Just no, Flintlocks are quick to reload and have decent accuracy against players. It has a reliable hip fire, and can take half health per shot it.

Same goes for Eye of Reach, reliable hip fire and removes 90 percent health. Players are low to the point where you could use a follow up single sword slice to kill them. Sword + Eye of Reach, is a much more reliable close range kill then blunderbuss.

blunderbusses need to be balanced. blockable and with slower reload times. and make flintlocks a bit more powerful.

If I were to put this really bluntly, blunderbuss is garbage, being point blank is its effective range. It has the potential to one-shot, but it is horrible unreliable with other guns having consistency overall.

also make ammo buy able and not infinite too (have say 100 to start with). might also be an idea to make everything buyable in the game. cannon balls? 100 gold for 50, wood planks? 50 for 50 and bananas? 30 for 20 etc etc.

No, Rare wants players to be on equal footing, no matter time played. Learn to properly restock, its a non-issue to many players who have learned.

but skeleton ships are way too over powered without enough players and many can agree that they dont have time for certain ships.

Unless you are slooping, its possible, there are a many threads who have given tips on fighting skeletons, but here is a quick summary:

    1. Be properly stocked
    2. Use Gunpowder
    3. Coordinate teamwork with boards and disruption on repairs

another point to make is that when a player goes against 2 players. no matter how skilled, if he/she is surrounded their dead 100% allow them to block behind by looking up and front. stunning the 2 players allowing time to get an attack and vice versa. then its down to player skill.

Its 2 vs 1, that isn't supposed to be balanced, thats the point. Its no longer down to skill, because the solo player is given a buff to handle 2 players.

what do you guys think? it would certainly improve the games annoying unresponsive moments

Reiterating, don't take these personal, but these suggestions aren't really that great. They will cause more problems while fixing non-issues.
