MAJOR bug! Ship filling with water!

  • My partner and I were in a sloop off Old Salts Atoll, when we got into a battle with another sloop. The megalodon was also in the area, but not attacking. We took some cannon damage and patched it all up. The ship had no holes (100% positive). It was not raining, and we did not have a Chest of Sorrows. Yet no matter how much we bailed, more and more water kept gushing in. This happened for several minutes, constantly on the brink of sinking, and it seemed there was no end in sight. Finally I managed to gain a few seconds to get upstairs and set our sloop on a course out of the area. Once we got out of the immediate area, the mysterious flooding stopped and we were able to bail out the last of it. At that point we decided to break off and go sell our loot at the nearest outpost before it could happen again.

This was crazy and really frustrating. What should have been an easy battle almost turned into a total loss. I'll also submit this via support, but thought I should start a thread about it as well. Yikes.

Anybody else encounter this one yet?

  • @genuine-heather I can't say that i have, neither have i heard about it before now.
Not to say something similar couldn't have happened when you don't pay attention.
Like if you got holes but it's filling up faster than it should.

But calling it a "major bug" and in capital letters no less?
A major bug would be something that makes the game unplayable or happen in the majority of times you play.
This as best could be counted as a miscellaneous bug.

  • @agent-of-shadow Yes, MAJOR bug. This was not something that goes unnoticed. Water was flooding in at a rate we could barely keep up with. We’d have sunk in moments if either of us stopped bailing. If this happened to us, it could happen to you. I bet you’d think it was a MAJOR bug then. If I’d been going solo, I’d have been sunk for certain.

  • @genuine-heather same.
We spawned near the chest of sorrows. Took it on board to use on event ships. Saw too many many water, took it off. Far away on the island water kept filling it. Never stopped. We didn't think about movingly the boat... Quit.

  • @genuine-heather I have not encountered it but I have seen postings about it shortly after the update this morning. The last I read on it they were encouraging folks to submit a support ticket with as much information as possible.

  • Did you check the small plughole in the brig?

Did you check the small plughole in the brig?

I did. I even made sure the chewing gum was still holding the keel on. That sloop was tight as an admiral’s drum.

Aye, and that drum be water-tight, no matter how long it's been at sea. :o)

  • @genuine-heather I can imagine how annoying it could be, especially if there is nothing you can do to fix it.
Even worse if you have lots of treasure on board and you sink, even though there was no hole.

But no! Even if the ship suddenly sunk with zero damage, it still wouldn't be a major bug. It's about quantity after all.
Personally i would think it could have been some server/client glitch.
For example if the game registered a leaking hole while the game showed it as fixed.

The best thing to recognize a bug is to be able replicate it.
If you can it's a bug, and if you can't it's a glitch.

  • I've experienced this issue too!

    Please raise a ticket.

  • I have discovered Chests of Sorrows on the shore underwater because I’ve heard them crying. Is it possible you were parked on one without realizing it? I know the chest cries through the ladder on a sloop

  • @omnipotence13 a dit dans MAJOR bug! Ship filling with water! :

No, there is an actual issue at Old Sands.

Apparently others have encountered this issue since the updates this morning. It’s a bug. I’m not sure why you feel the need to argue the point. Has it happened to you? No? Right.

I thought of that, but no. There were no Chests of Sorrow nearby. They’re very easy to hear.

  • @genuine-heather I know i'm not a fast writer, but damn.
When i started my second post no one else had posted.

Argue whatever it's a bug or not? I'm not, i'm just trying to get to the facts.
What i could argue about is whatever it would be a major, minor or miscellaneous bug we're talking about.
I felt a major bug was an exaggeration, that's all.

"Has it happened to you? No? Right."
Lol, exactly. Wouldn't me also having experienced it make it a bigger issue?

As i said before, quantity. Do you want me to google it for you?

No, but if you could stop being pointlessly acrimonious and condescending, that would be great. Thanks. Your opinion that ships suddenly flooding for no apparent reason isn't serious enough to be considered a "major bug" has been duly noted. Did you have something else to add?

pretty sure @Genuine-Heather is Legend and if not, close. she's no dummy and if you'd scrolled the patch notes at all today, you'd see (yes, first page) people have been on this bug since the start. buckets of water not being able to be thrown out and all sorts of fun stuff.
major bug. sorry. stop derailing the topic and finding something to argue about.

  • happened to me the other day, but we were able to figure out after awhile that the boat wasnt still filling up, the actual problem was when we would bail water it would just go back down to the bottom of the boat, giving the appearance that it was still filling up when really we just could get rid of the water that was there already. It was like we were surrounded by an invisible shield of some sort. We sailed around for a bit and after we made a good square's distance we tried bailing again and were able to finally get rid of the water

  • @maquark

It’s the sea of thieves forum man. Let him do his thing. After all, if there wasn’t someone to argue over THEE dumbest thing, it wouldn’t be the sea of thieves forum would it? No ;D

That had happened to me before, too. When it did, I could see and hear the water being thrown out into the sea. But when I went back down, instead of bailing it threw the water back into the ship. It was visually and audibly apparent what was happening. This time, it didn't seem like water was going back into the ship. It's possible that's what was happening, but there was no evidence to that end. I didn't think we took that much water, and it seemed to keep rising. If it happens again, maybe I'll stop bailing to see what happens.

  • @maquark I'm only a legend in my own mind, but I appreciate the vote of confidence. :)

  • @maquark You mean this: https://www.seaofthieves.com/ru/release-notes
    Then yes, i read that.

@Scraping-Static I don't know of if i should thank you or curse you.
    So i just say "neutral-you" i guess?
Depends if "THEE dumbest thing" means in general or not, but let's leave that for now. (Or forever. Not sure i want to know)

you know.... you're right lol. i don't post often because they get buried by old threads with arguments still taking place. if you want the devs to see your suggestions, get people to argue in the replies lol

  • Happened to me in a galleon the other night. When we dumped our bailing off of the very tip of the boat, it did not continue to fill ...

  • @agent-of-shadow nope, this.

  • Get off of your boat near Old Salts Atoll and empty the bucket. Whenever you empty water near that island it splashes on something invisible, or hits your player and splashes back down at your feet. If you are on your ship, you are cycling water into a bucket and back onto the floor.

  • There is something very weird about Old Salts Atoll. And the problems have existed since before Cursed Sails.

I was watching someone parked at Old Salts Atoll firing cannons, and it was like the cannonballs were impacting an invisible wall right in front of the cannon.
Then the same things happened with throwing water from buckets.

We decided it best to file a bug report.

I'm no code monkey, but I suspect a tear in the time-space continuum.

  • Also, perhaps we could all agree that this is, at least, a Captain Bug?
