Cursed Sails is a nice DLC but is should be in the game from the start because now it's too late .. servers are empty.

  • @slipknotchic75 You all get dashboarded? Hm, sounds like there must be a bug in the Xbox Build if that is indeed the case. Because on the PC, everything is working just fine.

@BinaryPlayerOne I have seen the topics too, but as there is no official word on any problems, only assumptions can be made.

  • Is that text shown on the image something that happens when servers get's merged? Because I've never seen it...and I've played allot...?

  • @binaryplayerone Yeah it's what happens when the server switches you to a new one, it happens when you enter an island or outpost(Or while on them), so don't unload your ship before turning in, because if you switch with your loot off your ship, it's gone.

  • @danish-crusader
I’m on PC and the game just crashes then I’m at the Xbox app.
@admiral Rrrsole is on PC and gets dashboarded too.

He’s in Australia though so that might be a contributing factor. We’ve built a ton of fleets but we can’t keep connected. I was hoping alliances would sort that out and it seems more stable short term, but after a while it seems to steadily degrade until we begin getting mass dropouts again.

The Xbox does seem to start dropping first though. I only drop when the entire crew/fleet gets dropped en masse.

Oh? Wow....It's never happened to me. And I got some scary amount of hours in this game now. But I thought the player merge would just spawn in new players around island etc. So that if a ship is on it's way to let's say the skeleton area it could get spawned on to a server with players active in that area...?

  • @binaryplayerone

I'm not really clear on whether you only see the message when you are moved or whether it shows up when other ships are being merged into your existing server, might explain it. I haven't seen this for a while either.

  • @binaryplayerone Possibly yes... but you would never know as the server will never merge a ship into a location that would be in your field of view. So for all intents and purposes, that ship was always there (just in their instance not yours).

  • @katttruewalker Hm... Either way a bit strange that I've never seen it. Especially since I've been on servers/realms that have been more or less empty. Could sail around looking for ships in all the regions not finding anyone.

Could be they are really good at hiding from me ship! I doubt it tho.. :D

Could explain somewhat that there is some kind of adjustment needed with their server merging feature. I dont know...I'm just a old dirty pirate.

It’s supposed to keep servers populated. I’ve merged a few times. You don’t always get the text either so be careful about hiding loot. You can be merged without notification. I haven’t had any merges in awhile though.

We logged 12ish hours in shifts on one server until it got crazy and ships were cartwheeling in midair or diving underwater then rocketing straight up about 30 meters.

Didn’t see any ships until about 8 hours in, then only one. By the 12th hours three more had joined then stuff got crazy and everyone crashed.

  • @slipknotchic75 Very VERY strange, I am out of ideas what could be the issue then. Maybe the Australian servers are having some problems? I have no idea.

@BinaryPlayerOne It has only happened to me twice in all my time playing, and I also have a scary amount of playtime(I would be a legend by now if I hadn't restarted my character 3 times when it was at 30+ levels in everything).

@KattTruewalker It only happens when you get transfered to a new server, I've had people transfer into the server right in front of me. Popped in right next to us at Santuary Outpost(2 ships got transfered in actually, a fight began, we won, we got called hackers for teleporting ships etc).
So it only happens when you get transfered, not when others transfer =)

  • @danish-crusader I just assumed it was a fresh ship when they popped into the outpost when it happened to us. Base skins so we left them alone.

  • I've yet to fight skellie ships without other ships showing up. and it has been super easy finding crews with xbox lfg. seems like more people are playing now than there were a few months ago.

  • I think the biggest part is the empty servers, or the fact you cant choose a server, we had to jump servers 5 times last night befor we found a server with one brigantine crew, to start the skeleton ships, we really need a server manager, i get what Rare is trying to do but its just not working, or the Algorithm that places people int servers needs to be adjusted, i can go hours with out seeing a single person in a server. this is becoming an issue

  • hands down what makes u sure the servers r empty?
maybe u r in the shores of plenty n the rest of the server is in the wild, then u drive in the north to the wilds,n the rest of the server drives in the south to the shores of plenty;) u cant be sure u r playin on an empty server.yesterday i crossed 4 ships but nobody were at the raid;)

yesterday i crossed 4 ships but nobody were at the raid;)

Yes , that makes the things really better. It is weekend and summer holidays and there is a new Update / Dlc for the game but nobody cares about because no one on the servers try to do the new raid. Is this your message to me ? And i should believe that ? I changed the servers countless times and didn't see a other player ship on the active raid places....because no one plays the dlc but they all are still in the game somewhere? I died countless times but didn't see another player on the ferry . But the other players are there , still hiding in a deep corner where no one can find them because they are shy ? I was more then once into the pirate legend cave .. guess what ... yeah you are right ... alone because no one else was there ! I played the game yesterday 6 hours long and i crossed only one stranger on a sloop maybe because he wasn't hiding well enough. He was about to log off anyways.

But maybe you are right .. maybe all other players just too stupid to understand how the new dlc works that's why they always are at the inactive raid spots meanwhile i was on the active raid spots. Maybe they just lurked around the switched off skeleton fortresses to wait there for a fortress raid that will never happen.

Either way that all makes the new content senseless... no one needs a alliance function if there is no other player or ship around to be able to build a alliance with you. No one need the Skeleton Ship raids if no one cares about.

And if no one cares about the new DLC .... how successfull could it be ?

  • I've come across a lot off empty servers also. I see ships at the start of a session then the server gradually empties I often play for hrs without seeing a ship. havn't seen the"world is changing" server merge message for over 4 weeks.

Server merge is buggy and needs looking at

  • @durengo-germany I was under the impression that the campaign was staying and that it was just the crews/curses would be changing.

  • @durengo-germany no one is playing the raid? thats not true ,i had one time 5 ship fleet, yesterday i seen a brig at marauders , two days ago i seen two ghostships (one must triggered them) and look into the groups .the servers r not empty if u played the betas that were empty servers.sometimes its a rush hour sometimes its quiet thats a good balance, btw its impossible landing everytime on a full server.the problem with serverlists n playerlists in sot, people would look for empty servers

  • Sorry you didn’t find many players. Most if not all servers I went into were full. I met so many new players since the dlc dropped. The Alliances have been a welcomed addition. At one point we all had an Athena’s voyage and helped one another to complete them. 3 ships, 8 pirates those skeletons didn’t stand a chance.

  • It is easy. Server instances are created automatically and filled with players. If many players exit from a server instance it will merge with another one or it will be filled with new players.

Conclusion: No, your sever is not empty except if you are in a bugged server.

    Yes and ?

Let me explain this on a example: In the Wilds will appear a ghost ship from the crew of the captain old dandy peterson between 1.08 .2018 and 7.08.2018. If you defeat this Ship in this time then you get as reward 5 doubloons. If you don't defeat the ship into this time ..then you never get the chance to do it because after the 7.08.2018 this Ship and his crew will dissapear forever and it will be replaced from a new Ghostship with a new crew of the captain redbeart harry.. the ship from harry will stay into the wilds from 7.08.2018 until 14.08.2018 and if you defeat it in this time you get as reward 5 doubloons. But the other 5 doubloons from the Ghostship Old dandy Peterson are lost forever if you don't defeated the ship .And if you don't defeat the Ship from redbeart harry until 14.08.2018 then you also will never get this 5 doubloons as reward because after the 14.8.2018 another Ghostship will replace the Ghosthip from redbeart harry. That brings us to the new Ghosthsip from the captain moneypie that will stay in the wilds only from 14.08.2018 until 21.08.2018.... if you defeat this ship in this time then you get as reward 5 doublons , if you don't defeat this ship into this time then this reaward of 5 doubloons will get lost forever....

If you didn't managed to defeat the GHostships from Old dandy peterson and redbeart harry and moneypie .... then you lost the chance to earn in total 15 doubloons... and you lost this chance forever.

After the 21.08.2018 there can be only no name ghostships found in the wilds and they didn't give you doubloons as rewards if you defeat them.

  • @durengo-germany Given folks intellectually dishonest approach to forums, I knew I should have quoted and not simply responded. sigh

Yes and... I was referring to a statement made that the region sails would no longer be available after the first week. That statement seems to have been removed, and so my point appears to be moot. Yes and... I didn’t bother to read the rest of your post.

  • @katttruewalker Read this headline again: "Rare confirms Sea of Thieves has had over 5 million players"

This does not mean there are 5 million active players. This means they have reached a total of 5 million people who have played the game since launch in March - maybe even pre launch with the Beta's. 4.5 million could have dropped off for all we know.

It's a number, but not indicative of the actual active player population.

I'm not saying the servers are empty, just pointing out that it's good practice to read between the (head) lines.

Didn't understand the hype about the 5 million players anyways . The Game gets sold Worldwide , alone in Europe live over 700 Million peoples ... alone in germany 88 million citizens ... in USA over 300 million Peoples and we should belief that 5 million gamers of this game are a huge success ? And i even didn't mentioned Asia , and India, Africa and the Human population there. And we also should belief that the Server Capacity of this game is full of 5 million players and that the servers because of this 5 million players are full and overcrowded ? A Server Capacity who is enabled to be able to serve all gamers Wordlwide ? Don't get me wrong here, 5 million players are a milestone but even with 10 million players could the servers looks like empty.

  • @dutchyankee said in Cursed Sails is a nice DLC but is should be in the game from the start because now it's too late .. servers are empty.:

@kashaarafall The 5 Million people played may be a correct number. But it in no way means that there have been 5 million actual players.

If you look at the "achievements" list on Xbox (or the xbox app) you will see that only about 66% of players have ever gotten the "scronch" eat a banana achievement. This tells me right away that 1 in 3 people never actually "played" the game.

Study the achievements and this will give you some insight into guessing the size of the "player base".

Except we know they were all bugged for the first 2+ months. Right?

More like 2-3 weeks, but your point is still valid.

  • @dumbdrunkpirate they either didn't play enough to get the achievemt or didn't come back when they got fixed. Either way they are gone.

  • The game is fun but it has a player retention problem due to the low variety of voyages that are highly repetitive. The recent DLC helps with this somewhat, but still does not address problems with the base game.

I've read that Forsaken Shores is supposed to add new voyage types, or modify the voyage system, and it is sorely needed if they want to retain current players and attract new ones since that is the biggest knock on the game.

  • @d3adst1ck Ahoy matey!

You might be interested in the SDCC panel if you have time to watch it... they delved a bit deeper into quest variety in that. It definitely sounds like they know what the issues are with voyages and will be expanding and mixing them up them very soon.

  • @musicmee Do you have a timestamp? I listened to that in the background earlier and it seemed like it was mostly fluff about the merchandise and the experience to be honest. I don't expect a lot of details to be released now, but I'm interested in any info on what they are working on to fix the core issues.

  • The game has so much potential and so little realized.Well, I have dressed your character how I wanted, painted the ship and then what? The treasures of Athena in fact also give clothes and painting the ship....

  • @d3adst1ck I don't to hand but will try to find it... it did sound promising though!

  • In regards to empty servers; A friend and I have played since launch a few hours a night almost every day. There is times we will go 2-3 hours with out seeing anybody at all. Or maybe just 1 ship off in the distance. However, as soon as a Skeleton Fort would pop up, we'd see it and think "Heck yes! That's an easy 20 min fort with no one here!" We typically eat those words and proceed to fight off 3-4 different ships and some repeat ships for the next 1.5 hours. Now, some of these may be server hoppers we fight, but, I imagine most of them are people that were scattered around the map and converging onto the promise of loots.
I have been Riddle Transferred a few times but only a handful.
Some nights are filled with other ships, some are filled with a few or seemingly only us.
I do wish it would tell you how many ships/people were occupying the current server you were on.
