So, I Just Spent 1/2 Hour Sailing the Brigantine Solo...

    And I can say, with certainty, that the Brig is hands-down the new best ship in the entire game. She handles like a dream, has good speed even with a single sail, and everything is easy to access and adjust, even for a solo player.

    Meaning the Brig is easily the most flexible ship on the seas. You can start out with all three crewmates and transition down to even a crew of one without sacrificing any of the Brig's power, at least in terms of speed and maneuverability.

    This ship makes me happy beyond belief. It's definitely going to be my go-to for solo expeditions instead of the sloop.

    I haven’t tried it in combat yet. Like I said, I just took it sailing solo for about a half hour. It sails perfectly, even for a crew of one. I’ve yet to test its durability, but I think I’ll do that with a full crew.

    Given your post, the sloop is dead to me. Long live the brigantine!

    I think I'll stick to a galleon for 3-4.. haven't even played yet though.

    Sloop is still going to be more maneuverable, but the combination of speed and handling makes the Brig just so much better.

    @blam320 Man, I'm really glad to know that. I'm yet to get home and play. As a solo player I was getting bored of the sloop as well so I was hoping that the brig could be sail by one person and you confirmed it. Excited to try it! =D

    ill agree you with you in terms of the way it works,
    aesthetic wise this thing is ugly af, not pleasing to the eyes at all. top deck pretty much flat, bothers me. Ill get over it. its fast for sure and fun to sail even solo

    It actually reminds me a lot of the Sloop from Pirates of the Caribbean: Online.

    You can bail water fast but some of the holes are a little harder to get to for repairs. All holes are bottom deck so it felt like it did take on water fast.

    Agreed, awesome ship. Definitely my favourite so far.

    I don't think it's too fragile, takes a lot more of a beating than a sloop.

    Tried some combat. Still getting the hang of it. Do not get boarded. Galleon has you if they get your anchor down. So long as you don't get boarded though the Brigantine shreds galleons, can chase them down and run from them with ease and sails rings around them.

    It feels really cramped below deck. Like a cellar with too much junk in.it.

    Didn't seem to be. Had twelve holes in it from a Skellie battle, crew of two. Sailed it into the outpost. A few places are a little hard to see and get to. All in all, it's a fine ship.

    The biggest problem is that any hit is going to let in water (unlike galleon which only the bottom deck matters and a sloop where only front holes are urgent)

    But if you are playing a galleon va a half decent crew then they aren’t hitting your mid deck anyways.

    Clutter sucks, but it’s designed to take some effort not to be optimal. Wouldn’t it be great to have wood on the lower deck and cannon balls on the upper deck of your galleon too? More players should be slightly less efficient for gameplay value.

    I personally wouldn’t solo it, but it’s going to be my primary vessel with 2-3 players

    I just took it out for a solo spin. It wasn't too bad. With 2 people it will be easy. I can't imagine having 2 people on a Sloop any more when you can use the Brig instead. This ships is gonna be OP.

    @gloog I have noticed one glaring weakness for the brig that might make PvPers reconsider using it. There is only 1 "lower deck" area. Where the galley obviously has 2 lower decks, with the top one filling slowly with water, and where the sloop has the rear area that you can almost ignore damage taken there, all hits on the brig cause that critical quick fill. Was in an alliance with a brig that didn't want to transition to party chat, and after sitting at an outpost for a while they raised anchor and rammed us. "These kids need to learn to drive" we said, but thought little of it. Until we saw them turn around and ram us again. I guess they didn't realize friendly fire exists while in an alliance, because I easily boarded and dispatched them. The brig was sunk about as soon as the first one respawned, it seems like she went under very fast. Mind this was only from crashing damage, we hadn't fired the cannons on it yet. But the brig is easy to maintain, our alliance of 3 brigs used them effectively against 2 of the skelly fleets.

    TL;DR: Pay close attention to taking on water in the brig.

    @supriseautopsy Yes I noticed that too, it takes in water waaaaaaay to fast.
    And some of the areas are difficult to get to to repair.

    Another thing I consider a weakness, is the constant "You are sinking" sounds it gives off while sailing(Even though you are not sinking).
    Makes me super paranoid constantly, because it really does sound like it is sinking with the creaks and kranks it gives off.

    True. Galleon needs a boost. It's such a horror to use. Even with a good crew it's just not enjoyable compared to other ships.

    Mind you I've been waiting for the brigantine with baited breath while others were talking nonsense about 4 man sloops..

    I like it a lot.
    Handles well, it's fast and maneuverable.
    Stairs always cause rubber-banning for me on both galleon and sloop so the smooth top deck is a blessing there.

    Now for the bad news.
    The main sail needs curling when squared more so than the galleon main sail.

    The lower deck / hull is way too over-crowded.

    You can't place loot on the table, it falls straight through it.

    I can't see my character (or pan the camera around) when laying on the bed. Not a big deal, but worth a mention.

    Banana barrel could have been placed closer like the wasted space next to stairs that is blocked anyway by a wall and window.

    The map table (chart) is way up the front, as far as possible from the helm.
    Swapping that with the bed would have been ideal.... if the stairs remain where they are.

    The stairwell should have been placed between the two masts. It's too close to the main masts ladder.

    Honestly, how much testing is done at Rare? Obviously not enough feedback is given or taken onboard. Pardon the pun.

    I think that the inconvenient placements and the fill rate from holes was deliberate though.

    It makes the ship optimal for 3 players. If there wasn't so much running around you could run this ship with 2 players and it'd be no more difficult than the sloop. As it stands 2 is fine but 3 is better. If the map table was closer and there was less faffing about the 3rd player would have nothing to do really.

    Where would we be without manners right?
    Like you said, the one tier hull means everything is on the bottom deck and my bed got very soggy very quickly.

    It's a great ship. I do however still think the sloop is the best option for 2 people. Did the skeleton ship last night with @Ve111a on a brig. Expected a friend to show up, but he never did, so we just 2-manned it. Trying to manage sails, patch holes, bail and steer is definitely more challenging compared to a sloop, and it kept me off the wheel for far too long. The one hole on the starboard side next to the bed is especially annoying to patch. Ultimately I feel like the brig is the thing they did the best with this update, as it truly feels like a middle ground. I doubt I'll 2 man that ship again in the near future, but it really motivates me to bring a third online when I hop on.

    They fixed one of main gripes: the crows nest, but my other gripe was the map table. It shouldn't be further away than on the galleon. Another main gripe was the difficult access to the bananas. It just feels too claustrophobic below deck. Had they put a little mid-deck on the back side similar to the sloop I think it would have solved most of my issues(ease of access & crampedness). Having the spacious top deck is not worth sacrificing the ease of access & crampedness. It should not be more difficult to do things on the brigantine solo than doing things solo on the galleon. So right now I'd rather sail the galleon solo than the brigantine. So for right now my favorite is still the sloop. If one of my friends comes on they will join me there, but if any others want to join I will just start the galleon instead. Nice try Rare, but I think you could have done better.

    Honestly for solo runs I'll advice every pirate to the brigantine as far as pleasing the eye ,for me that's just as important as flexibility of the ship I'll say the galleon I've never myself tried soloing with a galleon i saw it's possible just difficult but yet possible.

    It’s not as durable as the sloop that’s for sure.

    With the 3 crew limit it almost seems it is designed to designate one of the crew to repairs.

    Least that was the experience I had helping some dudes on a Brig.

    Kinda like a Glass Cannon...like the Sorcerer from Age Of Conan or the Robot dude from Overwatch

    Be interested in you updating this post after getting the living hell shot out of you and letting us know who you think can take more beating. Brig or Sloop.

    The only issue with solo’n a Galleon is when a Meg, Skelly Galleon or some other unfortunate event catches you....even a bad storm. PVP Or small storm Meg combo, etc.

    Kinda Church when that happens in the open sea.
