So... I don't think it should be possible to destroy the ruby mermaid statues solo with just a sword...

  • Hello there!

(everything i say is based on one experiment i did solo)

As the title says it is actually possible to do the ruby mermaid statues solo with just a sword. You don't even loose HP.
But let me tell you how I got to that bug first.

As i was sailing the seas to take a look at those mermaid statues stuff at some point i was wondering how many players it really has to be to destroy the higher tier statues so i decided to try and destroy a green one on my own. And it worked! It took some time and bananas but it worked pretty well.
At some point doing that statue stuff over and over again i began to notice that if you attack at just the right distance you won't take any damage from the statues at all.
Having that in my mind i tried decided to try to do a ruby statue on my own.

get to the point already!! Okay okay!

Anyways. I did destroy a ruby mermaid statue all by myself just using a sword and I don't think that should be possible!
Here is a little video just to proove that if you don't trust me.

Just to make some things clear :

    • I did NOT get any commendation progression at all for that! (whyever)
    • I did NOT do that more thatn once! (since i already got my 'Legandary Curse Breaker')
    • I do NOT support that kind of bug abusing! (I do test things out but i do not abuse that stuff)

I hope that kind of 'bug report' (i didn't find a official area to post bug reports so i just did it that way) gets seen by people who can take care of that and it doesn't get me in some kind of trouble or whatever.

Y'all have a great day and keep up the fun!

  • I did get commendation rep for doing this. I wonder why you didn’t.

  • I didn't get anything lol
i was still on 9/15 ruby statues as i was before but i thought that was meant to be just to ensure that you do it with more players. To prevent something like that.
Anyway i am fine with that not rewarding me to do just the opposite of what i am supposed to do ^^

  • @gamersn0t it could be delayed, try opening and closing the commendation menu a few times.

  • hm. Maybe ye but i will do it with some nice people anyway

  • You think wrong, bc think about solo players

  • This was posted all over the Discord very soon after the event started, there is absolutely no way they dont already know about it, it's even been on streams and whatnot, it might not be intentional, and i honestly dont think it is, but hey it could be, and it does allow people to do the event without having to rely on others, so i really dont have any issues with people doing it, both the part where you stand just far enough away to not take damage, which works against ALL statues, and the part where you can solo the red ones without GP's.

  • I do note the statue was in shallow water, so that you did not need to dive down to it. I doubt anyone would be able to do that if they needed to swim below the surface, especially with a shark or two circling around.

Unless maybe you had a banana crate floating above. :-)

Oh. My. God. Why did I never think to do that with a banana crate?

  • the range is the exact same as the range a skeleton will hit you from, i know from chilling on rocks, fighting hordes during Athena quests

  • @gamersn0t I knew about the distance bug but not that a solo player can destroy the Ruby statues on their own. Never the less is must take a good 15mins to destroy which when they are deep underwater is of course impractical. At the moment I'm focussed on the 'destroy 100 statues' commendation as that awards 50 doubloons.

  • I don't mind it being possible, with 4 man bashing on these statues it's still a lot faster and you'll get RSI if you do all 15 required statues this way.

LOL, that's not a bug, that's intended. It's a great solution to all the complaints about having to find other crews or other players to do these weekly events. Now you don't have to, but it's faster if you do. Everybody wins.

  • @gamersn0t I don't really see it's that big of an issue, intended or not. At the end of the day there are players out there who explicitly want to play alone. Is it so much harm that they have a way (albeit a rather tiresome way) to attempt the commendations alone?

It's also worth noting you're doing this with a statue that's on the shore - something I've not come across very often. How possible is this method when you're underwater gasping for air after 40 seconds?

Bottom line is - does it really matter?

  • They should of make the damage range as far as you can hit with a sword. they didn't... and we fully use that 'feature' to do emerald solo and ruby ones duo.... It's not my problem this wasn't tested well enough (apparently).

  • Yea, as has been said:

They've (Rare devs) clearly made an alteration to the concept of forced multiplayer/crew experiences and have taken a half step away from it for at least THIS event. Time will tell if they maintain this posture much longer or eternally.

The result is that it appears - just as noted above - that all of the experience can be had in one form or another by even solo players. But, adding in more pie-rats makes life easier.

Further, it's not entirely known or able to be truly agreed upon if the ability to avoid damage using range is intended or an eensy exploit but it is well known that you can situate yourself just out of range for damage.

There are complications with sharks and holding breath and banana limits when dealing with a statue placed deeper in the water, which likely will render most attempts fruitless or greatly extended in effort.

So, yea sorry man. But I don't think it's an issue with the same caliber of weight your suggesting in some of your text.

I can say that submitting as a bug report might yield more info... but honestly... they're already aware and in a few days or so it won't matter anyhow.

Okay then. I didn't find anything about it. When I searched i just found a few guys doing it with gunpowder barrels so thats my bad.

It took a bit less than 5 minutes to destroy that statue (the original clip is exactly 5 minutes and i didn't cut anything out just speeded it up)

Maybe you guys are right. I just had that expectation of the event that there is something for every player but being able to solo all the statues didn't make sense in my eyes.
I personally love to group up with some random people on the discord and just having a good time where everyone is just nice and wants to do all that cool new stuff together. I did that since the very first event I met a bunch of very friendly pirates in that time so maybe i am just a bit sad about ppl missing all that.

Anyway. Have a great day y'all!
