Ability to hold items as your fired from cannons

  • I can think of a lot of uses and strategies for having the ability to hold items while in the cannon. For instance, holding a gunpowder barrel while being fired at a ship from a distance and then detonating it under or in the ship. Also, getting to shore quicker with treasure if you come under fire and do much more

  • @kilartist1 An interesting suggestion, but how in the nine hell's would you fit a chest or a barrel into a cannon? The proportion just doesn't allow it.

  • Yo take the letter "F" out of "Fat" and take the letter "F" out of "Way"

  • @ardent-38 How do you place a person in a cannon?

@kilartist1 I'd love to see Rare's reactio to this, I'm guess they kept this feature out for a reason. And it does bring tension to have to slow walk all the way to and from the ship with loot. It gives a window where another crew can kill you and steal your loot and that's exciting so I'm guessing they kept it out intentionally.

  • @hynieth Questionable physics? I'm not really sure, but regardless, I agree with you. The tension and paranoia that comes from walking to the ship carrying your loot is too good to give up.

  • @ardent-38 Yeah, while the ship chasing you can shoot someone to an island you have to be sneaky about it and smuggle your loot there. It's way to cool to give up.

  • @hynieth But personally, I'm hoping cursed sails will give us a cannon ball that would be similar to shooting a barrel.

  • @ardent-38 how do you fit a fat pirate into a cannon?

  • @ardent-38 I've heard about one that's potentially worse for a galleon.... It pulls the ship under a bit so the second floor starts flooding, now guess how many people forego fixing the second deck because they can fix the lower one.

  • The "human cannonball" mechanic is already pretty ridiculous. Being able to hold items would make it far too powerful and easily abused. The same goes for holding items when returning to your ship via mermaid.

  • Lol!! I just want the ability to hold the items while in the cannon... the actual items would be outside of the cannon physically...so just lower body would have to fit

  • When you have entered a cannon, your hands could stick out along with your head and then been handed a object to take with you.
I dont agree with it. I like the mechanics as is.

  • @kilartist1 It's not a matter of fitting it's a matter of game balance and gameplay feel.

Part of the appeal is the danger of getting your loot stolen, moving more slowly while hauling treasure and having less options (no mermaid no cannons no sprinting) makes it so you're going to be vulnurable for a longer time while carrying. This is a core gameplay feature you'd take away if you're able to be fired from a cannon while carrying.

  • @hynieth yeah, I get the tension of walking slow to sell your treasure but really I haven’t had attacks while doing so like maybe once or twice. However, I think that the strategic gameplay of this feature would really add even more excitement and depth to combat and infiltration. I just thought of one tactic with this that would be sweet.. “kamikaze pirate missle” Lol!!

  • @kilartist1 I'm often on a galleon and I rarely get attacked. I'd not be the demographic for this fear effect I'm also smart enough to steer away from a port with a ship at it but I must say not everyone is in my situation and I've often had people go to islands only to be intercepted by my crew.

It's an essential part of the gameplay to have a disadvantage when you're holding the chest you need to be carefull. And as fun as kamikaze pirates are I like that will they wont they sneaky sneaky factor as opposed to the boom boom cannon factor.

  • @kilartist1

And how will you be able to avoid such attack ? How will you be able to defend your ship ? Just Imagine that you come across a galleon and 4 players they hold 4 gunpowder barrels in the hand just shoot themself over on your ship . That's your instant death.

  • On the physics side...you would be dead or at least minus the feet and lower legs, also reality of being fired out of a cannon aside. Try holding onto a barrel of gunpowder..which is pretty damn heavy whilst flying at that speed..

  • @durengo-germany same way you avoid any attack I’d imagine.. make sure not to get at an angle where you are subject to attack..also this attack will take one of the opposing crew out of the situation. ..

  • @ulfwizard this isn’t real life, this is a game. There are several things in the game that are not realistic, like charging your sword up and shooting through the water like a torpedo. That’s what makes it fun.

  • This is a fantastic idea 💡. They should also give us shoulder fire cannons, fully automatic blunderbusses & dolphins to ride around on.

  • @durengo-germany also if you see them holding the barrels then you can shoot them before the fire themselves out. That is the balance angle.

I can't wait for that one in particular. Every time I'm on a random galleon crew, nobody bothers with the middle deck holes, and we lose that buffer time if water fills the lower deck, so while everyone else on my crew is playing sea of headless chickens, I'm the only one down there playing sea of planks.

Once they are introduced, if I find a ballast ball (I think that's what they called it, and I'm hoping you will be able to tell the difference between the different ones before firing), I will intentionally aim at the mid deck first, punch some holes that likely won't even get patched, then hit em with the ballast ball.

  • @ardent-38 Question, did you play Icewind Dale?

  • It would be pretty amusing if firing someone out of a cannon with a gunpowder barrel had a 1/3 chance of detonating on the spot.

But yeah, it would be a bit too strong to be able to fire something and put 4 holes in a ship with one shot.

  • @kilartist1 I never said it was...I was replying in kind to people commenting "well the physics"...pointing out if you take science into account 1) you would be dead or half the pirate you was before! And 2) the aeodynamic drag of a chest or gunpowder barrel plus its weight would more than like drag it from your hands or dislocate your elbows and shoulders... 3) a gunpowder barrel and you in a cannon barrel....Pirate mist and mangled cannon most probably. Science aside...it would ruin some of the dynamics of the game...😁

  • @ulfwizard agree to disagree lol!! Good day

  • Yes! You should be allowed to climb into a cannon with a gunpowder keg. But when the cannon is fired, it should blow up immediately, not only holing your ship but also permanently destroying that cannon.

Powder kegs are already an OP way of ending what should be a sea battle. Let’s not make even easier to deploy.

  • i don't know about that, i do think i should be able to run with certain items, cups, skulls, empty crates

If you are fired with a gunpowder barrel it just needs to detonate when you land or hit something, obviously killing you in the process. It should also run the small risk of going off as the cannon fires damaging your ship and killing anyone in range.
