@doc-hamilton I've done that many times while we empty all the resources from a Sloop or Galleon . Done it to probably new players, done it to Legends.
People can and should scuttle the ship.

@oheck Hmm, yes you're right. You also seem to not realize that code of conduct does not mean pirate code.
Code of conduct states that all who sail are part of a community that welcomes everyone, regardless of age, gender, race, and beliefs. You can fight other pirates as much as you want in the game but you may not witch hunt them, and griefing your own crew risks you being locked in the brig. Finally, help out anyone who asks for it, and do not cheat.
No one is expecting you to help every noob you come across, but no one is holding you back from beating them down. There is even a loading screen message and a poster on the ferry of the damned that tells you how to scuttle your ship so you stop being griefed. If a player refuses to do so, then it's up to them to try and fight back. I've done it before and won! I refused to rage quit or scuttle. Simultaneously, I've gone 1v3 against a galleon crew while my friend sailed our sloop off. Held them back for about 10 minutes - anchor dropped and made two of them rage quit. Mind you, they were the aggressors here. Their choice was to either try to kill me and keep chasing our ship, scuttle, or call a truce to find someone else for prey.
Am I a griefer? No, I was our ship's combatant to hold them off while my friend went to sell the loot they came to steal. I wasn't trash talking to them without being trash talked to first, I didn't board and start killing them without them first trying to sink my friend and I. They started the fight and I ended it.
Unless the person was actively talking trash, telling them to get out of the game or making statements that put them down based on gender, religion, etc. then he was playing as the game allowed. If they were asking for pointers on Reddit, then trash talking them would be looked down upon - rightfully so. If they were asking for help from someone who was looking to do PvP and wasn't looking for conversation, then they're asking the wrong person.
...This thread interests me.
We've talked about grievers and trolls before, have we witnessed any accountability of Pirate Code enforcement? And do we if a sense of redeemed for being wronged by another player.
...unless they boasted being a Pioneer, then you wouldn't know because there are no visual cues for that...
3: Disputes Are Settled upon the Seas: None shall quarrel or overly dissent against another crew, but every engagment be settled by sword, pistol, and good seamanship
6: Respect New Pirates and Their Voyage Ahead: May the old legends help to forge new ones: treat new pirates with respect and share your knowledge.
A.3 seems to set up the rule against griefing others but what also sets up "what happens in-game, stays in-game"... and A.6 tries to apply the Uncle Ben ideology of "with great power comes with great responsibility" to a pirate game (where people can easily chose to be a malicious pirate or a benevolent one)
Ok, RARE, you have this "Code", how will you enforce it and prove to us that You Are?
Side-question: How mandatory is it for RARE to prove us that they are enforcing the Code or is it only necessary for our own gratification?
Whats wrong with a little small arms combat training? They gave you the scuttle option for a reason, and anybody I’ve ever seen do this stuff (which has been myself and many legend crewmates, story could be about me for all I know) has always waited for the respawn to attack them or start moving first. Or atleast I do that.
You act like sending your avatar in a video game to the respawn boat for 30 seconds is equal to its real life counterpart. Well there is no respawning or sea of thieves treasure hunt pirate world in real life, and if you think most people’s goal is simply for you to have the bad time that you did, your pretty self centered. I doubt they even thought about you at all when they did this. It was just more fun than pve small arms combat, and also more fun than the work ship combat can feel like Sometimes.
Blame rare for not letting players duel or have actual sanctioned (by this I mean actual game mechanic based features) minigames like capture the flag on instances of islands, etc.
Some people wanted this game to be an open world pirate sandbox with depth to the gameplay, rather than hello kitty fetch quest copy and pasted island adventure with 3 items barely any aI and no merchant economy, no fishing etc etc.
If they had filled the game up with meaningful activities, connected the dots between them, and made the players do more than fetch reskinned items for an overly longh grind to purchase overpriced cosmetics, maybe the pvp would be the ingredient in this games recipe that it should be, rather than the one attraction left after seeing the pve content the game has.
I really doubt it was about them making you have a bad time, but about themselves having a good time with what little game we do have. Atleast that’s why I’ve ever “camped” a ship beyond tactical loot protection/hole guarding reasons.
this may sound odd, so hear me out. but what if we put bounties on the ones breaking the code, But it costs them! the money if we kill them as a ransom, something I was thinking about the other night, but it would also be like a penalty to those going out to be bad (but to make it worth it) say first offence starts of at like 1000,00 gold you would start to behave, oh and if you leave a game the bounty stays no loosing it.
Scuttle your ship or change server, get over it and move on. Sometimes people need to be at an outpost or island and sometimes people need supplies, scuttling and hurrying back is more effective than dying repeatedly as it robs them of time and stolen resources. Get a grip, there's nothing in the code about slaughtering a crew for a laugh, there's nothing in the code about robbing people blind or eating their bananas in front of them while they cry about it. Suck it up buttercup.
Just for info but the Pirate Code which we have was constructed after discussions in one of the Hot Topic threads where the community of the time was able to post their suggestions of how to encourage a positive online community.
Prior to and alongside this on the forums we had always referred to the Microsoft/Xbox code of conduct, but then found we were needing more specific rules for particular circumstances, mainly because pirates love a good debate and things do get heated sometimes plus the Code is more general in it's definitions and scope.
A: Barobosa said THE code is more like guidelines, not EVERY pirate code.
B: The code Barbosa was referring to in that statement exists within the realm of that movie, and thus only applies to characters in that movie.
C: You're just being a smart-a*s and you know it.
Also, people forget that this is a pirate game.
Pirate game.
Pirate..... GAME
It's a game. Not an excuse to act like an arrogant, toxic degenerate. (and no, sinking people for their loot is not griefing)
I don't think it's possible for any online game to be free of bullies. The online world is full of insecure people who get their jollies off on putting others down because they are missing something in their own life. Bullying others behind the safety of a screen they are free to behave this way without consequence.
That's not directed at the PvP'er though, there is a difference between PvP play and bullying.
I met up with a fresh crew of sailors other night at an outpost. We partied lol. Drinking grog and playing music for me was so much more fun than cutting them up with a sword would have been.
Until Rare adds a way for PvP players to fight other PvP players, I'll continue to sink every sloop I see. I have no interest in grinding to pirate legend, just to continue grinding the same voyages for athena gear. Call me griefer, bully, and say I'm what's wrong with the community all you want. Its like I asked in a thread I posted, why did Rare bother to add a PvP mechanic in this game if people are going to complain like this? Do people really expect others to roll up on them and ask, "Hey, do you want to PvP?" Rare has made PvP apart of this game, whether you consent to it or not. Only friendships I'd make in this game are finding other PvP sloops that'd want to team up to sink galleons.
As for spawn campers. Spawn camping isn't even an issue in this game. If you died 3 times in a row on your own sloop and you're getting sick of it, scuttle your darn ship. Rare made an effort of telling you this both on the load screen and on the ferry of the damned. You're only getting camped because you're allowing yourself to get camped. Scuttle your ship, spawn 5 or so islands away, and get back to doing what you're doing.+
