Get rid of party chat.

  • I really think games should start going back to the practice of removing party chat from games. When the 360 was up, and cod games in the section of search and destroy party chat was disabled. I feel for more imsersion in this game we should get out of party chat. Other crews try to get ahold of you and some people cant hear it. Now as a pc player i have the use of both chats which is wonderful. I can talk to everyone and hear everything unless they are in their own party chat. i can understand people without mics or simply not replying but forcing people to chat with others could be something this game is lacking in. Whats the point of giving you a loud speaker for someone to get out of party chat to use it and hope the other guy isnt also in a party. my 2 cents. sorry for the bad grammer and puncuation i just remembered i dont care about it :D

  • @sa-tanks I actually agree 100%, all communication should be within the game if possible, on console this can be done, on PC it can't be forced but at least the bulk of the community (console players) would be required to use in game communication instead of segregating themselves.

  • No. Stop trying to force people to play the game your way. If i'm in a party chat it means [Mod edited] what you have to say and I dont care to hear it, also if im close enough to hear you it means im either about to shoot you with the cannon or snipe. Either way, I dont need to hear you.

  • get rid of party chat and we will just move over to discord. simple.

I don't care about your way though because it's anti-social, it's boring and it defeats the purpose of communication in the first place. This is a social game, that is the idea behind it, and all you do by walling yourself off is kill any kind of social interaction or engagement.

This garbage even happens when joining a Galleon crew, the other three people are partied up and then you join and low and behold you're not in the chat, they're not talking, they're not inviting you and it's the most boring thing imaginable.

  • Question: when in party chat, is the speakerphone useless or does it override party chat?

  • Yeah for sure xD
force console players to use ingame chat that EVERY PC player can hear them and they can´t hear you because u use discord,TS etc... to speak private with your crew.

  • @saskeks I agree with this heck if they force us into game chat, then force them to no longer us Kb/m it only fair hahahaha

If PC wasn't forced it would give Xbox players another reason to make a thread about the unfair advantage.

  • @ath3na-cr33d PC players give us Xbox players just as much grief.

it is very tiring this argument though and don't get me wrong I use both game chat and party chat on xbox the game is a different experience that way

  • @commando-slippy yeah i use both too a bit more complicated as 2 different PTT bindings but in many cases they should not hear me talk, i mean they do the same thing. so why forcing Console players to use ingame chat ?

    i don´t get it

  • first off, no the loudspeak doesnt do anything against a party chat. Also for people saying discord and everything as well. im a pc player and i always chat in game chat. because i can hear both the party chat and game chat, even if i was in discord. as a pc player no matter what we hear both. and its their choice not to answer you. To be honest i havent played with many pc players. always atleast one xbox player so discord wont work there. There is ways to prevent the use of third party progams with games. why give out tools to talk to people of no one is in game chat? Im sorry if you dont want to hear other people or whatever turn the voice chat down. it's hard to talk to people. DOnt get me wrong. i really dont want to hear a scream group of kids playing this game. but i would love to hear their screams when their boat is in flames. i just think it would ad more fun to the game. I dunno being able to chat with the boat next to you or the pirate in the ferry of the dead without hoping they are in a party chat and cant hear you. Ive had nights where people were just switching back and forth and thats just silly imho. bring back the days before party chats commuication is key. let the hate fly.

I play on both platforms and I've noticed more often than not when I speak in game chat I'm told slurs i'm not sure i can repeat on the forums when I'm boarding their ship and sinking it. or I'm being hit on in the ferry of the dammed after they've sunk. "OH!! DUDE it's a girl." followed by alot of cringe.. I don't support this idea of being forced to speak in game. I like to pick and chose when I speak in game chat. and if it was to become a thing, it at least needs to be fair on all platforms otherwise PC players would have a serious advantage and Xbox players will no longer be able to be tactical.

I agree, but the sound quality in game chat is terrible compared to a party. I don't know why this is but developers and/or Microsoft need to figure out why this is and improve it.

  • I agree he game quality is poor but it does open up funny moments, however when we need to be tactical we don’t want to be telling pc players what we do. So no force on the party chat is my choice also

  • Id prefer the game changes its chat to private, and using the trumpet being needed to talk to other crews, or have two channels in the game.

I use discord and a different push to talk for the in game chat, but that isn't available to XBOX players and just removing their option to not share their tactics would not be very fair. Promote the use of the in-game chat by making it better, not by penalizing console players, especially considering how so many of them already complain about PC players getting the better end of it.

Any news on when discord is coming to xbox btw? XBOX party chat is horrid.

  • Can't count how many times I hear xbox players ingame spilling their strategies to the opposing crew. "Im climbing their ladder!!!" or "I'm about to barrel them!!!" lol. Party chat can be useful in these situations.

I play on PC and I use discord to talk with my crew. I then have push to talk enabled in game whenever I need to talk with other players.

  • If there could be some way to have Xbox players hear both party and game chat and have one or the other be PTT like the PCs then I think it would solve a lot of problems.

  • I'd agree with it being forced for both xbox and PC. I've seen tons of great moments in this game made dull with one crew trying to speak to another but the other is all muted in party chat. Plus I'd like to hear the pour out of some people after I sink them XD.

I don't care about your way either lol or what you think of the way I prefer to play.

When I want and care to chat, I switch over from part to game. If someone else doesn't oh well.

Might as well also require everyone to have mics then or not be able to play at all. The amount of people without mics who also don't use in game communication wheel are simply being anti-social, and therefore don't deserve to play this social game.

Game chat also sounds like people are talking through pillows. When quality is up to par with party, come talk to me. Maybe I'll care about what you have to say regarding chat.

  • @nwo-malice I'm with you mate, party chat for tactics, also if someone drops out for connection issues it's much quicker and easier to get back in via the party, and you can tell people what's happening which you can't if it's lagging cos you lose chat too. Also if we want to be sociable the option for switch to game chat is right there, often if we're not in game chat we don't want to be

  • okay so when they release this new silence ball to disrupt chat, what then? it isnt going to work because of party chat. thats just going to be solved by no one ever being into game chat and then community events to never work ever again.

  • It can’t be done. Party chat is not within game, so you have no control over it.

Or a crew may use discord, Skype, zoom, telephone, CB radio... or they could all just sit in the same room!

  • @ath3na-cr33d This alone is reason enough for me to not force Game Chat on anyone.

There's always going to be easy ways to circumvent such a measure, so why bother trying to force players into social interactions they may not want?
As it is, the system allows a fine balance between Party and Game Chat. My crew and I most often talk in party chat, but we frequently, in fact almost always switch to game chat to engage with fellow pirates.

I think this system is fine. Sure, you might not talk to as many people as some would like, but you know that the ones you do get to talk to, actually want to communicate and engage with you, on some level.

  • @sa-tanks @NyaDC85
Back in the Xbox 360 days, party chat was run through the game servers so the individual games had some control over party chat and whether it could be used. However, Microsoft changed that to make party chat more stable, more easily accessible, and to add additional features. Now party chat is completely separate from any game and runs on its own dedicated servers. Therefore games can't control party chat. Rare doesn't have the ability to force people to use game chat. (It doesn't matter how much you ask Rare to do something about it. They can't.)

  • @nwo-malice a dit dans Get rid of party chat. :

No. Stop trying to force people to play the game your way. If i'm in a party chat it means idgaf what you have to say and I dont care to hear it, also if im close enough to hear you it means im either about to shoot you with the cannon or snipe. Either way, I dont need to hear you.

This. Just this. Been called alternatively and repetedly either a "hacker" (because apparently sniping properly means you hack) or "Ah ah, you suck so much, you are the worse !" (sic) (when they were the ones killing me) by a 14 years old kid for half an hour while he and his buddy were camping my ship instead of sinking it.

I don't need a way to hear everyone. I need to a way to UNhear everyone.

  • Not to mention I've been on my last strike since Halo 3. I ain't losing another main.

  • I must say I’m a little sad I don’t hear the chatter of other crews upon the seas. For me it totally breaks the immersion. It’s like meeting a shipful of silent Bobs! Lol i wish there was only game chat. Used to be fun listening other crew (when you were close enough) discussing tactics as you were about to board their ship, sneakylike. ;D

  • @lizalaroo It's unfortunate that the in-game chat feature is buggy at best.
Something many don't know is if you toggle "Push to Talk" on and off it usually comes good. I'm unsure if that option is on Xbox.

    We heard a crew today.
@Reedski met with someone on the ferry who said he was a soloist being bullied by a galleon so although in the midst of an Athena's voyage, we cashed in and made a bee-line for where our new found friend was located.
Sure enough a galleon was pounding the poor bloke (@yorkshireboii something or other) so we opened fire on them. It was safe to say they weren't a well co-ordinated crew but we too were sailing together for the first time.

We heard their cries from our ship and had to laugh.
"Oh no, they're boarding", "We're sinking" and "It's not supposed to end like this" rung-out across the waves over and over. lol

Only one of us boarded and although someone was guarding their ladder they still didn't prevent him from boarding and wreaking havoc.

But yeah, it's because of the in-game chat shortcomings many resort to the Xbox party chat or discord.

  • I think I only hear chat from a small fraction of other players I've encountered, and it spoils the game a bit, in my opinion. I don't want to be forced to listen to idiots, but more communication leads to more understanding between players - I'd wager the general level of toxicity would go down if everyone was openly communicating.

Not sure what can be done about it though. I could be wrong, but the game does seem to know if you're communicating using a mic in game chat - so maybe offer some sort of in-game incentive for using game chat? Unlockables tied to how much you communicate maybe? I imagine that would be open to abuse, thinking about it... but I'd certainly like to see a bit more communication generally.

Also, how about a 'whisper' button to talk tactics with just your crew while in game chat?

  • Having party and gamechat is the best solution here. Sometimes you get tired of hearing endless racial slurs, comments about sexual preference and whatever someone's mom does when the kids are asleep...

  • KK, so if Party+ was taken out and people could hear everybody talking, what happens if you're attacked by a group of, say, 4 friends in a galleon who are speaking their native language to each other; a language you don't understand. Will we then start hearing people complain that everybody should speak English?

Also, I am not sure how being in a party can be classed as anti-social (sorry, a-social). By being in a party they are socialising with each other. Just because you can't hear what they are saying doesn't make them anti/a-social. Otherwise anybody not speaking the same language as you to his friends is being anti/a-social?

  • Removing party chat really wouldn't change anything. Back in the day maybe it did, but today we have other methoods of communicating like Discord, Teamspeak, skype, etc that anyone who wants to do it wont have an issue. Even on console, some players still use discord to speak.

IMO the way to get people out of party chat is to encourage it in game. If there was more content that required teamwork, people would be more willing to stay in game chat so they could work together. But if there is no reason to talk to others, you can't act surprised when people dont.

  • @admiral-rrrsole did Yorkshire boi join when I left? Did you get the chest?

  • For me the biggest frustration with game chat is the lag and therefore people talking over each other. Party is slightly better but discord runs rings around both.
I'm lucky to be on PC. I also play on Xbox occasionally and my GF uses it when we play together and we use discord so that she can still chat with people in game on game chat and me on discord.
You just have your phone connected up running on the wifi and have discord going there, link it into your headset for all chat in one place.
