Pioneer Definition

  • Sorry to be throwing shade but I just thought that Rare needed to be reminded what a pioneer is after revoking so many people's titles. Pioneer: a person who is among the first to explore or settle a new country or area. Every pioneer I've met has sunk so much time into the game, not only providing feedback before but after launch aswell; now we're all being kicked to the curb as a 'New wave' of pioneers emerge. I believe that Rare has made it very clear to us that all of our efforts are now taken with a grain of salt as we're never mentioned or recognised outside of a (very) short mention on one of the podcasts and now we're being forgotten altogether. I understand that Rare is well within their rights to revoke ANYONE's title on the forum at anytime, but getting rid of the original pioneers just because they no longer fit the criteria that is never mentioned is more than discouraging to anyone wanting to join the program in the future. If nothing more, the pioneers deserve answers more than anything else or in-game recognition for all the hard work and commitment every pioneer has put into the game.

As an added (and more salty) note I'm seeing new pioneers with less than ten posts being added to the forums and next to no reputation; surely if someone with eight posts is in but someone else like @Musicmee is kicked out with over thirteen thousand posts and sixteen thousand reputation, than one must truly question what is going on. If Rare wanted to add more exclusive testers into the game under a new title then that would be completely fine, but handing out pioneer titles to those who seem to have so little experience is beyond unreasonable. Pioneers should always be pioneers even if their help is no longer required.

  • Being a Pioneer was more than just a fancy forum badge mate; Rare can't take away your experiences, or the impact you had on the game. Take solace in that.

I mean surely you didn't test your butt off for glory or fame, right?

  • @tundra-793 I can't argue that I didn't have great experiences as a pioneer, but I can argue why the Pioneers are no longer 'pioneers.' I'm not annoyed that the forum badge was taken away, I'm annoyed why the took it away from so many people who dedicated months or years of their life to helping Sea of Thieves grow without even saying why. To further aid my belief of not acting self-entitled, the technical alpha players got to keep their badges after the game launched AND got an in-game reward for their efforts whilst constantly getting mentioned by the developers; the pioneers however, got about one sentence of recognition in a thirty minute long podcast, their badge stripped from them, and no in-game recognition - If you ask me, that's seems kind of unfair. And what I'm most annoyed about is that I gave up my own time to write feedback and play an unfinished game (which was enjoyable don't get me wrong) only to have them say that none of what I did matters anymore and now your title is being given away to people with less than ten posts. All I'm after is an answer, which I'm sure most 'ex-pioneers' are too.

  • @spunkus-skunkus Totally agree.

  • @spunkus-skunkus There's been a ton of chatter about this over the past few days, and while I largely disagree with your side of the argument, y'all do make some good points.
A bit more disclosure would certainly go a long way to quell the dissent, and it really shouldn't be too much of a hassle, though the team might still be a bit busy, what with E3 coming and going.
The crux of my argument though, is basically; Testing games is a volunteer job. Volunteers usually aren't in it for the perks

One thing I have to point out though; While no one knows the real criteria for becoming a Pioneer, surely you can see the logic in gathering a group of both new, and older players? They have to test new content or features across as diverse a crowd as possible, to make sure it's equal parts fun and accessible to newcomers and veterans. It is also quite possible to deliver feedback outside the forum, via surveys.

So when you see a Pioneer with only 10 posts, it really isn't fair to judge them solely on that.

  • I'm not surprised in the slightest that it got handled that way. I already adjusted my expectations after launch.

  • @tundra-793 Not really sure anyone is on about "perks" to be honest. It was a role set upon some people that were always humbled to be involved in, and always happy to have more people so the game would evolve.

Then out of nowhere it's no longer a role that fits "criteria" nor, has any recognition, many "pioneers" put countless hours into testing, and, feedback, now a large proportion have just had a big F* ? Without thought or care, just a word or two to explain the situation would have kept most content.

I'm definitely all for getting some fresh legs on the decks, but, to just ignore the ones that tried to carry their pegs from the hull ? Just confusing to me.

  • Couldn't they make the pioneer badge more transparent for past pioneers. Or make a new badge?
I'm a pioneer apparently but I don't have any badge.

Also I only became a pioneer recently and I played in the closed alphas and betas.

  • History is filled with more than one wave of pioneers. You were pioneers for the inital game. There are new pioneers for new areas and adventures that we will get to experience soon.

  • @Spunkus-Skunkus For me it wasnt that i got kicked out or anything like that. What I hated was how Rare outright lied to us. They said you would never be removed without being informed and given a chance to "Reedem" yourself ect. And then they just kicked us to the curb.

Ive also been told that there is 100% no blacklists on the forums or in the Rare community, but i also found it a little weird how alot of the old and really active members who turned more critical of the game after launch got left out on the new wave.

But honestly don't even beat yourself up over it, its a whole new Rare now, the pre launch Rare is long gone so i just go with it. I used to be a lot more reserved with how i engaged with Rare but when i realised they dont really reward loyalty so i gave up caring/trying. Now im just blatantly honest and say what i feel, and you no what i may never get pioneer or boatswain or anything else but at least i know im being true to myself and am willing to give my honest thoughts.

Its kind of a release aswell, because i dont have to worry im going to be targeted for having views which dont necessarily support the decisions they make. I aint got anything to lose. All they can do is block me so meh of it happens it happens.

  • @awoken-genius Try log out of the forums mate and delete your browser cache and log back in. There used to be a cache issue which stopped badges appearing and that usually sorted it.

If that doesnt work raise a ticket. Hope it helps :)

  • Not a pioneer here but I never understood the point of taking the pioneer badge from the original pioneers. I thought it was nice to see who had the badge on this forum.

I did apply to become a new pioneer but they never got back to me. Maybe I am not active enough, not sure.

  • @ghostpaw ha detto in Pioneer Definition:

True, but that doesn't mean that the former pioneers can't still be pioneers, especially if their help is still needed, and it's needed since new pioneers are testing new features and fixes now (me amongst them, joined today).
Why doesn't Rare just let them be pioneers, especially those who were more active during the pre-launch alpha?
