Ship Specialization and Legendary Ships

  • Ship Specialization

What if ships could have their own specialization? Each ship would have one
Specialization Slot. Equipping a unit into that slot will give the ship a new mechanic and change what class of ship it is.

Examples would be if you equipped a mortar into the slot then it would give you a mortar on the front and the ship becomes an artillery sloop, equipping a ram unit into the slot to put a ram on the front making it become a juggernaut sloop, equip it with a keg dropper unit that makes it into a saboteur sloop by putting a powder keg dropped on the back, or equip a storage unit to make the captains quarters have more ledges to places stuff on making it a merchant sloop, etc...

This could be done with any size ship and not just the sloop.

    Legendary Ship Specialization

For end game legendary pirates Legendary units will be available such as:

Sun Orb - has the ability to wipe out all nearby skeletons with a flash of light. Usable once every 30 minutes. Making it a Sun Ship.

Shadow Orb - has the ability to turn completely invisible for a period of time. Usable once every 30 minutes. Making it a Shadow Ship.

Kraken Bell - has the ability to summon the kraken once every hour. Making it a Kraken Ship.

Ghostly Trinket - Has the ability to phase the ship in a different dimension to take no damage for a period of time. Usable once every 30 minutes. Making it a Ghostly Ship.

Storm Beacon - Has the ability to cause a temporary storm once every hour. Making it a Storm Ship

Pirate Lords Gear - Gives the ship a giant frontal cannon. Usable once every 15 minutes. Making it a Pirate Lords Ship.

Smuggler Lords Gear - Gives the ship a giant rear cannon. Usable once every 15 minutes. Making it a Smuggler Lords Ship.

Racers Sail - Gives the ship a speed burst ability usable once every 10minutes. Making it a Racers Ship.

Holiday ship sets could also be added into the game or holidays sets could be sold at the shipwright

  • this has been told no by rare too, specializations and such have been denied by rare, levels and such, they want everyone that just got the game, and people that hasn't stopped playing since launch on level playing ground.

OP made no mention of vertical progression and RARE has never denied ever including tactical tradeoffs. Just get rid of it being for legendary pirates only.

  • @gloog but...summoning the kraken...i mean that kind of big boy toy kinda thing is sorta over the top. I wouldn't mind trade offs like less cannons more speed vice versa but i doubt rare will do it within this year if they ever do it...we are due for a new ship type though....

  • I've just been hoping for more ship related bling.
    Like fancy helm-compass options.
    Or dashboard/rail idols

  • Thank God Rare said no to this, it would break the game hardcore. Lol

  • I don't know about this. I especially don't think legends should get physical advantages other people can't get (and rare agrees,) but I would like to see different versions of the ships we already have available to everyone. Like a light weight runner sloop. Can outrun a galleon, but tradeoff is no cannons, or only one rear facing gun, and it doesn't hold up to damage as well. Perfect for the pve player that just wants to run voyages and avoid conflict. Also a heavy galleon, with extra firepower, but it's speed and maneuverability take a big cut. It would be difficult to balance, but a light, medium, and heavy version of each ship would be great if it's done correctly

  • Rare have said countless times that they don't want anything to separate the new players or give anyone any kind of advantage over new players. Everyone needs to be on an equal footing. Nice ideas, but for a different game. Sorry.

  • Ships are already kind of specialized.

Sloop is nimble but not too quick. Can easily navigate shallow areas and rocky waters. It's only weakness is a single slip up can cause it to go down.

Galleon is a tank that can blast through the water but requires team coordination. It's strength and weakness relies on how the crew operates together.
