Hungering Deep Troll Fiesta

  • So I've been trying to do the Hungering Deep all week with no luck. Gotten galleons with LFG and solo slooped, but no other ships would cooperate. Always encountered trolls ("We're friendly" then BAM) & hostile pirates (understandable). Tonight I finally found some crews to do it with, but fell victim to a foul troll. We got everybody together, went off and got supplies, then re-grouped for the shark. He then gunpowder barreled the group's galleon & hid out on our sloop trolling us with pistol fire. He also started cannoning other ships who sailed up to help. He then laughed about wasting our time. Great game design guys! You've created a troll playground! I've been playing this game for a year, been a stinking pioneer, yet I don't see why I should even bother. This vapid desert is a (Mod edit) joke. I don't believe I'll be checking out the forbidden shores or whatever else you're slapping together. Enjoy my purchase, it is the last time I waste money on you. I was seriously angered enough to come on here and type it up.

  • Why not kill him? Or have the crew he belongs to brig him or kill and sink him if he was solo. You need 5 to do the meg, so assuming the other three players felt the same about the troll player as you it should have been easy to deal with, sounds like you gave him a lot of leeway if he able to carry out all these acts.

I dont condone and im not excusing what this guy did but you make yourself a victim if you dont promptly deal with people like that.

  • @my-40oz-of-funk Well, the games kind of designed to let players engage one another as they see fit. It's a giant playground, and occasionally you got people who want to log on and just be troublesome.

  • @my-40oz-of-funk sagte in Hungering Deep Troll Fiesta:

Always encountered trolls ("We're friendly" then BAM)

Obviously trolls, because the one tool pirates never utilized was deception.

  • @fantome-of-blue Occasionally? What game are you playing? EVERY SESSION I tried was full of uncooperative people.

  • @my-40oz-of-funk Come on, try harder.

I solo, dude. I've played enough games over the years to know that most players are young punks who don't know how to behave, and actually cannot appreciate the fantasy the game is offering.

Just the way life is, so I enjoy it as I see fit.

  • @fantome-of-Ive encountered tons of grown people yeah occasionally.😆😆😆👍

  • @fantome-of-blue Who said anything about how u play? I don't care if you paddle a banana barrel around or sail with the entire server on a sloop. FYI I normally run solo (have been since day 1, taking out my first skull fort about 2 hours after release). The stupid content they released is ripe for trolling is my point. I tried all week to complete it, got close last night but was thwarted by a bad actor. Now everybody is cheerleading the tool. BTW he was a guy in his 20's, not some juvenile kid. When the keg went off, they claimed it was a mistake & apologized. This was maliciously stringing us all along. I have no qualms about trashing him & anybody who takes the side of people like this.

  • @fantome-of-blue yeah occasionally.😆😆 Just like the forums too huh.

  • @my-40oz-of-funk you know dude, I do understand what you're telling me, and again, even though they're in their 20s or even 30s, they don't know how to behave. They haven't grown up, and you can draw any sociological inference from that, but my solution is to stay away from them.

I think trolling is just a massive problem on all games, and in society as a whole. It's not just Sea of Thieves, but all levels of society inside and outside the net have really lost manners when it comes to interacting with people. I don't know if there's a solution, but I tend to stay from them.

I'm sorry if that doesn't sound helpful, but it's the best I've got.

  • @fantome-of-blue Definitely, people enjoying making others miserable is a symptom of the human condition that has gotten inflated in recent years with the rise of the internet. Particularly with underdeveloped individuals, either age or mentality-wise. My normal tactic is to never give anybody the chance to burn you. But this content makes you trust people in order to complete it. Which is why I made a post. Not to lament the decay of decency, but to harangue Rare for giving trolls an able forum to be troll-y. Everybody else just instinctively berated the victims of these shenanigans. You included. Cue another salt post meme...

  • @elchupacabraj86 I was solo slooping & he was sailing with me for over 2 hours before he went rogue. He said he was with the galleon, but I doubt it now. I got a crewmate to log on just before we summoned Meg. He waited until we engaged to blow a keg, then claimed it was a mistake. The other two hostile ships that sailed up made it difficult to figure out we were being trolled. By this time we had been fighting over an hour before I caught the guy cannoning a friendly ship. We had used 80+ planks by then. As we sank, he laughed & admitted to all of it. He wasn't exactly announcing "I'm a troll" over chat or text. As I have stated, I'm not looking to party up in this game, but THEY FORCE US TO with this content. That is my whole beef. I don't need your little "troll trouble shooter 101", as I've been playing this for a year & dealt with many, many trolls. This one was very devious, opportunistic & lucky. He only stole time, but it ruined the experience of the other 7 people trying to complete this malarkey. See above posts for more details if you like.

  • @pure-rare Here's me, not playing this game anymore. Enjoy your little troll party, all the decent players will move on to better games.

  • @my-40oz-of-funk You do realize that Trolls aren't exclusive to Sot, right? Every other game on the market, that has player to player interaction, will have some that are there whose sole purpose is to harass or disrupt another persons ability to play the game.

This is no fault of Rare in making the game or the players on these forums that just play the game. We all read your first post. we get it, you had a bad time in game. We all have.

Maybe its time to drop the bashing of people on here and move past your bad experience.

  • @braxkedren Nah. Really? Trolls exist? Wow, all those tens of thousands of hours played on games & this is my first run in with a troll! You're right, wasting others time is a honorable endeavor, worthy of praise! Thanks for you enlightening comments, I believe I'll go foundation spam a few ARK servers & team kill some R6S guys! It's a whole new world...

  • gonna summon the @Deckhands now just to get this person post locked. They have no other purpose but to bash people at every turn.

its a pretty sad state of affairs, when people derive their enjoyment from creating anguish. once people no longer had to face those they competed against sportsmanship began devolving into what we have now. it will only get worse, as gamers get less and less social integration while growing up.
i play mp on a couple 2k games, and a regular group of players enjoy going afk in the start up menu, thus making it very hard for others to enjoy their game. it is on 2k, and rare, to combat these jerks and keep their games fun for those who enjoy them for the right reasons.

  • I'm with @My-40oz-of-Funk on this one, To me if A person goes to THAT extent to do nother other then being a tool and to get people upset so he can laugh out the doritos and mountain dew while living in mommies basement, He should get temp banned. Plain and simple you are contributing nothing to society and games and are just out to upset people, to me it's not different that racism and hate speech getting banned in online games, You are causing someone anguish.

This is another example of why we need some form of report mechanism for disruptive players. This behavior is not at all keeping with the spirit of the game. Players like that are toxic to the gaming community.

  • The dismal replies on this topic just drive the point home. Do you folks realize that we, the player base, have the ability to affect the gaming environment? With so many people excusing or even encouraging this type of behavior, it’s no wonder it continues unabated. Does anyone here actually think it would be “fun” to play with someone like that on your ship? If we’re being honest, I doubt it. If we collectively condemn this kind of behavior, both in game and out, then it will decline. This community is entirely capable of self-policing unwanted behavior, but as yet it seems the most vocal players are unwilling to do so. I think it’s a shame that people can’t rightfully complain about bad behavior without getting deluged with accusations, excuses and insults. We should be banning together to bolster a better gaming environment for all of our sakes.

  • people are free to be jerks in video games. also, sometimes its just fun to be the harbinger of sorrow. keeps people honest. with that being said, i haven't done it... recently

  • Nothing against the children, but in my experience, kids maybe 10-15 make up a surprising amount of the playerbase. There is nothing more humiliating than being shrieked at as your ship sinks at the hands of a prepubescent kid.

Heh, I learned that the hard way. I never wanted to throttle a child as much as I did at that moment. LOL. After getting sunk and killed, I loaded up my ship with gunpowder and bloody revenge on my mind, before thinking better of it and calling it a night. Arrr!
