disabling PVP and how it could be done

  • This mechanic could be abused to troll other players. Imagine that you and a group of players who dont pvp want to grief a pvp'er just get some solo sloops and keep ramming, disrupting their play while remaining immune to getting sunk or shot.

  • The idea belongs to a different game not this one.

  • Looks like this game just isn't for you then. You can see Ships coming from a mile away. If you look up and
there they are.....that's your own fault for slacking. Tired of it. All the sad sad pirates.

  • @thedaxter11 said in disabling PVP and how it could be done:

@octopus-lime no im not, if i put time and effort into doing a voyage or fort, someone shouldnt be able to come and steal all the loot i got, all that time and effort gone to waste? no thanks

Turns out its called Sea of THIEVES, its literally in the title of the game. 🤦🏻‍♂️

    We agree on alot 🤣😂

  • Don't just assume everyone agrees with you on them needing to add a pve only option.

The community can give a lot of great feedback for this game, but this argument could ruin everything. The game is structured around being "thieves," in a pvp sandbox. Everything earned is only put towards cosmetics. Tell me, what other games do that? PvP games alone.

The developers have done amazing in my opinion from the start. They consistently make little improvements to the game. So far they've addressed everything that I've wanted them to, and this is not one of them. I'm thankful that they realize how this would ruin the entirety of the game.

    🤣🤣
I'm not arguing with you though. i was just chatting about some red dead and GTA. I've played this game plenty of times without even seeing another ship.

  • @thedaxter11 your reasoning of skull forts is flawed at its most basic level, IF and thats a BIG IF they would implement this idea i would simply say, PVE players are not allowed near a occupied fort (fort with skull cloud above it) for the simple reason that Skull forts are meant to bring people together either friendly or violent.

That is what the big skull in the sky is for.

Your solution is just food for griefers: just make sure you are at the fort first and hide in the towers, you are the first fighter and so you can only pick up the loot. GG fighters and thanks for the work of killing the captain ill be headed off with the loot now.

I’ve stated this before, events like the skull fort is an MP zone and you should enter with caution!

For the private voyages (none stealable loot) again goes against the core mechanics of the sea of THIEVES, its risk vs reward, keep your head on a swivel and just make sure you can sail properly.

Unsinkable ships will kill this game faster than anything other, because it wont be noticable untill you unloaded cannons at said ship or barreling them.

Solo sloops can kill and sink 4player galleons, its not about git gud, its about learning the game mechanics how does a player react to your action, how does a sloop sail, how does a galleon sail.

Just a tip if a sloop goes into the wind it is faster than a galleon. If a galleon gets wind in its sails it is faster than a sloop.

And i don’t know why this discussion is still going on RARE themselves have mentioned multiple times, even before release, that PVE only options are not something they are going to do. Everybody that got this game with the idea of having a PVE option have fooled themselves and either should sell their copy of the game and move on to a PVE game or should suck it up, get some experience both sailing a Galleon and a sloop.

  • @thedaxter11 Yes, they should have the option to steal your loot. You have the option to defend yourself. If you don't know how to do so it is your problem. This games built on an even playing field, pve servers break that idea. You'd be able to get pirate legend in no time with no threat of any danger. I know you're going to say "but it is cosmetics only!" Yeah, it is, but all of us had to work for ours and defend it from players and so do you. If this is something you can't accept or can't get behind then just move on. Don't try to break a game because you don't like it. Rare is not going to destroy their own vision because people don't like being robbed in a pirate game.

  • Mmmmm. I really enjoy pvp... Especially when I have been griefed and trolled by a 4 man galleon. They sink my ship at the outpost and ram it into a position i cannot get out and proceed to sit in the outpost playing music whilst I have about 6 chests and 2 skulls on my ship. They didn't take any of my loot but just spawn camped me on my ship and proceeded to be patronising within the chat...

How about you fix the way bloody pvp works and maybe some people like me wouldn't mind it...

  • The voyages are only means to get loot and they are not as long as you make them out to be. If you decide to only visit an outpost after completing like, 4 islands, that's your own choice and risk.

The most important thing to remember though is that the voyage doesn't end when you find the treasure. Only when you actually sell it.
Think about it like in pubg: You need to land, gear yourself and kill other players. It only ends when you are the last man standing. You are asking to "win" the moment you just geared yourself.

You obtain treasure and sell it. Whatever happens in between you buying a voyage and selling your loot is the game itself. I won't tell you to "git gud" but if you are complaining about it, either this game is not for you or you simply do need to improve.

I'm currently 37/38/37 and a solo player. In all this time, I only lost 2 empty cages and a foul skull to other players. That's it. I'm horrible at pvp but I do play in a smart way. Just need to be aware of your surroundings, be prepared and always have a plan.

  • @thedaxter11
If I understood your whole post correctly, you're saying I want Sea of Thieves without the actual thieving right?

  • @thedaxter11 I see many references to GTA 5. I think you are closer to adding pirates and galleons to GTA 5 than what you propose here.

This can be done now. Earlier today i hopped in for 20 mins and got a chest of sorrows, 2 captains, a seafart and a skull. Turned it in and logged out. Didnt get attacked. And i didnt need a pvp toggle

    seafart...

  • disabling PVP and how it could be done: Don't

  • If the wasting of time is the key factor as to way SOT has to change let's first realise that, guess what, games literally are a way to kill time.
Without the ability of someone getting all that you earned because you decided to stay on an island for to long or couldn't shake them or don't see that there is a mermaid sitting at an outpost then ya, get gud. Otherwise where is the joy of just narrowly having everything stolen but you good, or you almost made it but you got got but had fun trying. If passive is made then the seas would have nexted to nothing to do beside hope for the kraken which doesn't do much sense it's random.
There is also the joy seeing some crew NOT murder the hack out of you when you both are capable.
Love this game so much but if they change to PVE only and the internet gets flooded with legends then I quit.

Also, we shouldn't expect them to adhere to everything we want on the forum just to shut some people up but ruin this different kind of game

  • This is how I roll. Try to steal my loot.

  • I'm not sure if it's the worst idea I've read, but it surely isn't a good one. You're essentially asking for zero risk, but the same rewards which is just a no. Also what if most of the players on the server select this option, then players will have no option for PvP. This idea is broken on too many levels.

  • You know Rare once said on one of the videos they recently made to be cautious and to keep on eye out on the sea. I have a feeling you @TheDaxter11 have tunnel vision and pop like a pirate pinata filled with many goodies :D

I would play this game. My friends would.

No one in my friend list is playing the game SoT is right now, and they aren't planning on coming back without something like this.

It's crazy to me how ready to lose players are both Rare and all the white knights in the forums just out of pure stubbornness and spite against adding options that would attract different playstyles. Pitiful.

well your acting like those are the only players... while there are still players that can join based on the games premise that... its being sold as. Breaking the PvE / PvP up into two separate modes would require a shift in design principle... what works with integrating those two won't necessarily work for stand alone PvE or PvP content.

Example. WoW started out with a lot of fun world pvp content but it was essentially a PvE game first and PvP got pushed more and more into a separate mode of play while it became less and less relevant to the core experience in PvE.

It's not that we are white knights. We bought the game as pitched. We don't want the game to loose focus and stop serving us content geared towards world pvp/shared adventure. Games can't and won't cater to everyone.

    Lol that’s the fortress skull.

So like two, maybe three villainous.

  • @lotrmith

Lol it’s the skull fort skull glowing like a beacon near my wheel. Lol the villainous go up on the sails and one at the tip of your prow so they light up your ship. Zoom in on the glowing skull. I will find the sail pictures when I get to my gaming rig.
