Health bar changing??

  • So I just read the recent patch notes and the main thing that really confused me was that they were changing the health bar when you ate a banana or something like that. I don’t know that part really confused me. Can someone help me out on that part. Thanks

  • For a modest fee Microsoft can change your name to 'CertainGamer99', that should solve your issue.

Well, that answers that. Shut the thread down. Lol.

I'm curious to what this means too. Anyone?

Haha take your own advice! Super poopsy?..

  • @super-poopsy how bout not being a major [mod edited] and just tell me what it means. No need to be a [mod edited] about it.

  • sad face :(

  • @confusedgamer99 Think it was just a joke matey.

Bearcubbin could also be taken to imply... y'know what, that was probably on purpose so good for you matey :)

@ConfusedGamer99 I have launched since the patch but I didn't think to look at the health bar. I'll take another peek for ye!

  • They've made the health bar slanted when ye have taken damage. I believe that be all but I be havin' a hard time getting a clean image o' it from before the change :)

Awesome, it kinda bugged me that the health bar meter is slanted but the bar itself was not. Makes more sense this way.

I too am a fan of this. Thanks for the screen.

  • Seriously? IS that the change they made? This of all things in this game was bothering people?

I hate to sound salty, but I would have much rather had a solution to the perfect Skeleton Aim, and their ability to shoot through obstacles.

  • @j3ns3n-xxii idk about the ability to shoot through objects, but skeleton aim was nerfed on the last patch! Haven't you heard? Unless you mean gun aiming and not cannon aiming... Then I get your comment.

  • @assassinsking98 Skeleton cannon aim was nerfed. The skeletons with pistols are still Deadshots.

Ok so that is what he meant. Thanks. Yeah skeletons have a deadeye for guns still, but hey it's supposed to be challenging right?

  • @assassinsking98 Yes I am aware the cannon aim was nerfed, but honestly I didn't feel that aim needed the nerfing. Its the blunderbuss and pistol aim that is ruthless. And they absolutely do shoot through rocks, and the side of your boat. I have been killed through the walls of the boat more times than I can count from pistol fire.

  • @assassinsking98 lol, you say that until like 4-5 pop out of the ground and you calmly put the blindfold on and light your cigarette as the firing squad commences, lol.

Or you attack them comming out of the ground and knock out 2-3 before they kill you

  • I didn't notice any other changes than the slant, but hopefully there is a little more to it than that. Anyone see anything else different?

I understand yer complaint. Howe'er ye have to understand that the big addition in this patch was the closed crews. Everything else was a minor addition or a bug fix. So this just be a little something extra, probably quick to knock out an it just makes the UI a lil' nicer.

I highly doubt a small adjustment to the UI would take the same time as a reworking of the skeleton shooting mechanics an' AI. Now... adding the ability to pass items sounds like a much bigger job for the developers, so I would say that needed to be here (and now isn't) less than a fix to aimbot skeletons.

  • @rattlyfob That used to work until the skeletons got health boosts because of higher levels. I can no longer kill skellies with like 3-4 swings, sadly.

Charge boost over spawn, 3 hit combo, get hit by 2-3 shots, 3 hit combo, first group dead, get killed

  • @awesomecoreusa I understand that. I just figured "hot topics" would take priority. I had heard very little rumbling about passing of items (I think it is a very nice addition), and even less rumblings about the health bar. I hear all kinds of complaints about skeleton aim, so they nerf their cannon aim (with very little effort apparently because it happened so quickly), which I heard very little complaints about. Yet one of the biggest complaints you here around here is the aimbot small arms fire, for at least the last 3 updates.

Just seems odd to me is all. Overall I think Rare is doing a decent job updating the game. Every little thing makes it a better overall experience.

  • @j3ns3n-xxii Aye aye, I don't think anyone be asking for the ability to pass a cannonball :)

Best guess, one o' the art team said 'hey this would look nicer if...' an the question o' how much time it would take was '10 minutes' so they said 'sure, throw it in the 1.0.7 patch'. Happens at my work all the time, we also make software (not games though) and minor tweaks get put in all the time because they are quick to do an' yer not actually losing any major dev time.

  • @coconut-monkey6 Which feels odd right? Since they get stronger and we stay the same. Skeletons taking 3-4 hits was decent. Taking 7+ swings on a group of goldies no where near cannons, or water is a tiresome adventure.

I mean, UI artists and programmers shouldn't work on things like skeleton aim. Makes sense to me. Not every patch will address every issue the community is complaining about. They are likely to log issues, prioritize work, and release it in sprints or some similar methodology. I also question whether or not skeleton aim is something they are considering working on, because I could see both perspectives (although they certainly shouldn't shoot through parts of the boat), but I don't really understand the sentiment of "well the issue that bugs ME wasn't fixed, what were they thinking?" when they're out there fixing things and adding new mechanics to the game.

  • @j3ns3n-xxii Agreed. I think instead of beefing their HP up, they should just increase their numbers? Course, that also boosts the amount of bullseye pistol wielders but I think they would be easier to handle if they didn't take a gazillion sword strikes to kill. And don't get me started on legendary quest skeletons!

  • How dare they do a simply tweak to make the UI look better instead of nerfing the skeletons so we don't have to put any thought into endgame content!

The problem is Pistol skeleton aim forces people to take cover like it was CS and not a pirate game. Because all of the sprinting, zig-zagging and bunny-hopping away won't save you from getting shot perfectly in the back three or more times by a wave of pistol skellies.

  • @j3ns3n-xxii
Rare doesn't consist of only devs, sometimes the designers want to do something too ;)

You can do that. Or you can stand outside their range and shoot them. Or you can use cannons. Or gunpowder. Or you can aggro a few at a time around a corner.

I don't see which part of "it's a pirate game" should allow you to run up to a group of pistolwielders with a sword without any tactical sense and succeed.

You'll get shot before you can get far enough away from the Skelletons to detonate the gunpowder barrel. Or you'll get shot trying to ambush them.

Cannons are only effective if the skeletons you're fighting are close to or on the shoreline near your ship.

Plus if you ambush a group, your three-hit combo doesn't work the same way against skeletons; you're likely to get shot and killed anyways.

And I specifically said "running away," not towards. I absolutely expect someone to get shot in the face if they run at pistol skeletons. But running away while using every evasive maneuver in the books?

And what did I say about using corners like you were playing a tactical shooter, not a Pirate game?

  • This is some next level thread derailling. Different people work on different things, this is a nice little change to the UI.

Also, while the pistol skellies could probably use a tweak, people also need to use cover rather than jump around like they are fighting other players.

They do not fire through objects, and even a tree is enough to absorb a volley.

My balance suggestion would be to reduce the ammount of pistol skelly in any batch so that there are no more than about 2 at a time.
