Arresting enemies pirates

  • As I played the game, i've noticed one especific strategy that most of the players use while being chased by other ship. They jump into the water, board your ship and drop your anchor. Die. Get back to his ship. Safe and easy.

What if we have the option to arrest the enemies who die in our ships? Make them wait (a little) more than in the Ferry of the Damned.

This would make the players think in better ways to deal with other pirates, or even think twice about boarding another ship.

  • Great idea. Throw them in the brig for
5-10min. A player down would certainly turn the tide of the battle.

  • How would this be implemented into this game?

What are the mechanics behind it?

Are we still playing SoT after these things have been added?

  • @shaynoinsano I like the idea, but I don't see it working. People would just back out and rejoin the group with 2 minutes maybe less. Yeah even a 2 min. wait is a penalty in itself, but it is even more annoying when you see them back out. It's perfect the way it is. It's a game so prisoning people wouldn't work.

  • Y’all should do a better job of watching your ladders then or don’t follow directly behind a ship😂

  • What if enemy pirates board your ship and capture you? Only fair, right?
Should you be sent directly to the enemy brig, or rendered as shackled and used like loot?

DayZ has a mechanic where you can knock out players, handcuff them, then force rotten food down their throats.
Great pirate fun, no doubt, but not Rares cup of tea.

  • @el-dunco I'm so glad that someone else understands this. I think the shackling idea would be an atrocious addition. That would mean uncontrolled time for the shackled player, basically like they are just stuck at a loading screen. Also, there are already enough issues with persistent ships following other ships. Just have to be more efficient than the other boat to outrun/catch them. Plus, like someone already said, just watch ladders better. Someone boarding your boat means 1 person less to move sails and what not on their boat for a longer period of time than you would take to shoot them off the ladders.

  • @barnabas-seadog Perhaps if there was a net system. You would cast the net onto the enemy and drag them to the brig or tie them up. They COULD cut out if they have a sword on hand or shoot the pirates dragging them. Perhaps maybe a club weapon could also be added. Barely does damage, but can cause fatigue or a drunken like state from the head trauma.

It would certainly prove useful in fort attacks. That way we could restrain enemy crews and return the attack. Perhaps also an option to set free yet temporarily remove their weapons so they can't jump us when we set them free.

I could actually see a use in that. Your crew grabs the treasure and begins to sail off after sinking their ship. Then one member stays behind, cuts them loose, then swims for his mermaid or takes them down.

But it could be abused if there isn't some form of escape. Perhaps with the bonds you could struggle against them. And for the brig the door could in some way be pried open. I'm not sure really, just spouting off random ideas.

  • Well, i've writed four lines making a suggestion, didn't tried to specify an entirely mechanic, this wouldn't be my work. I just think that the ship battles could be better if you were forced to think more about strategy, don't just jumping in the sea and go back to your ship, whatever happens in your tries.
And my first ideia was like "If you get down an enemy pirate on yout ship, he won't die, but stay incapacitable. Then you and your crew can interact with the stunned pirate and seize him."

I won't try to suggest any especific timer, or some way to manage to scape the prision, just threw the ideia... why not? They ask for suggestions and feedback, and here's mine.

  • There was another topic a few weeks ago talking about this. There were some good suggestions.

If you die on board an enemy ship, you could spawn directly in their brig instead of going to the ferry. After 5 minutes you'll be teleported back to your ship or thrown overboard while tied up. It would take a few seconds to shake the ropes off so you can't just grab the ladder again. A friendly player could interact with the brig by holding x to open it, or even shoot or hit the lock. The players who own the ship could vote to release you early and keep you on board or make you walk the plank.

  • the problem is that then the players with bully behavior, could capture a sloop and incarcerate the players just for the sake of it ...

  • @vapingbad93 They could capture a sloop and incarcerate players how? The initial suggestion was to be able to capture an enemy who has boarded your ship. If you board another ship, you can not capture anyone, you can only be captured.

If you mean in regards to the net idea, even the poster who suggested it agrees that it could be abused if not implemented carefully. As mentioned, there has to be some form of escape and there should be a considerable measure of skill involved in using it on a player who isn't willing.

  • @bossink36356323 maybe a mechanism very difficult to use and that can only be used by synchronizing with the rest of your crew in a total numerical capacity to capture him for 2 to 5 minutes.

  • A good idea, could arrest the player and for this to be released would have to wait 5-10 minutes or pay some fee to be released. And that money would be divided between the crew that captured him

  • I just don't see enemy players staying online if they are put in the brig.

  • @horizonlegendo
Its not like they ll be imprisoned forever. Most people wouldn't leave their friends or their cargo just for some time of imprisonment. It's like the Ferry Boat, but for a bit longer time.
We might be able to see the plank get used this way like @TtargetPractice mentioned! Think about it, you kill someone in your ship and you have 3 or 4 choices:

    1. Let him be. You waste some of his time while fighting the rest of his crew. In which case he spawns to his ship after a while.
    2. Release him. He spawns in your ship again i guess (Don't always think about the chasing scenario. He could be someone that was hiding in your ship and in the end you become pals, happens)
    3. Vote for the plank. He spawns tied up on the plank, and all you need to do is push or maybe execute him or something like that!
    4. I added this one a bit after posting! what if we could put him in the CANNON!?!?

I really believe boarding an enemy ship should have some risk to it. This idea could add that risk and some really funny and epic moments (epic in the scenario when you board a ship and save your crewmate!)

  • @bossink36356323
It would be interesting, I'm just not sure how you could fairly lock them up.
