We've all encountered griefers, in various forms. Players that join crews just to sabotage the ship and leave, players that will camp your ship and spawn kill you, players that will simply do nothing and soak up all the gold you make. Then there are those PVP players that do nothing but terrorize an entire server, not for loot, but just to see people suffer. Currently there's very little we can do about these people. Griefers can be reported to Xbox and Rare, but PVPers are welcomed in the game because that's literally half of the game.
So what can we do about all this? It's simple, really.
I propose a bounty system for PVPers. Killing one or two players, sinking a couple ships, nothing will happen. But when you start sinking several ships and dashing many dreams, that's when this would kick in. You and your crew would get a bounty, essentially a reward that other players would receive for sinking your ship and/or killing your crew. Perhaps even provide a special tool for locating crews with a bounty. Upon killing the wanted crew or sinking their ship, the crew responsible would receive an amount of gold.
This would not seriously impact PVP only players, but it would reward players for overcoming PVPers and perhaps even teaming up against them.
As for griefers, perhaps an option ingame to report a player for griefing. Should the player receive enough reports, they'd get isolated into a "naughty" server, where they'd only get to play with other griefers or suspected cheaters until after a certain period.
These are just a few suggestions on how to deal with griefers and pvpers. I mention this as I've recently had two random players join my crew and both times they've either sabotaged my ship by detonating all my gun powder barrels or they've actively avoided helping out on the ship.
