Choosing What Outpost You Spawn At?

    1. Make the outpost unique, special. Make a small town with individual NPCs wandering around.
    2. When you start the game, you and your crew vote what outpost you spawn at. Spawn at your favorite one, or one with a certain piece of loot (cosmetics) you want.
    3. You will spawn at an outpost with no one on the island or in a certain radius.

    Just an idea, love to hear thoughts about this.

  • The only issue is with players being at the outpost already. Pretty sure that's why there are the same number of ships in the server as outposts. That way there is at least 1 open when a new ship joins.

    They would have to lock outposts that have players currently on them.

    Why would you allow players to spawn in with loot? Highly abusable.

  • Even if the game would lock out occupied outposts so you couldn't start in your sloop besides a fully manned galleon, there would be a minimum distance you could camp at outside the more "desirable loot" outposts and just barrage with cannon fire. I like the thought, but too easily abused.

    I suppose a solution to this would be to attempt matchmaking into a server where the outpost selected isn't occupied or has a ship within X radius. but that could cause matchmaking issues.

  • @drunkpunk138 Not a bad idea. I agree though, I would imagine that would slow down matchmaking.

  • @drewbob7 I love the idea of NPCs wandering around although I doubt it will happen. Would be lovely to make them feel homely though, or to have your own home/house area to decorate... perhaps you can have an area like that with your ship outside, you can invite friends, when you're ready to sail you set sail like normal then you are teleported to an occupied outpost, in a similar way to now... I think this could also help with the problem of everyone having too much gold!! Give us a space of our own to customise! Or just allow for more more more ship customisation xD

    I like the incentive of this idea though, to make outposts more homely and 'familiar' :) I know there are one or two outposts which I'd avoid because I hate the layout of the islands :P

  • @doubledragun Completely uncalled for. Plus how would this help people who do camp? It wouldn't you can't predict which outposts are the most popular.

  • @angrycoconut16 Most skull forts are at keel haul so you just choose the closest outpost to the skull forts. Not hard at all

  • @doubledragun I don't do forts much. How many are there? If we are talking between choosing 2-3 outposts then perhaps it could be an issue. The forts activate randomly right? Or is it the same time each and every day they become active? If so then this could also be abused.

    If on the other hand forts are randomly activated, and there are several, I don't think this will be an issue as players won't know which ones are active and thus which to outpost to spawn at. And if they want to camp, it makes no difference whether they choose an outpost or sail to an outpost to camp..

  • The skull forts are always at keel haul, shark fin, and one other only three. Maybe boot camp is the third?

  • Dunno if choosing the outpost is a good idea but NPCs wandering around would be cool; if you could choose the outpost you spawn at server hoppers would just spawn at outposts near the 3 forts that have skulls appear

  • @chief-beef-dsp yes I like the larger forts. They are good but I am sure the npc's would get scattered and would take the players hours to finish if not coordinated correctly.

  • The simplest solution I can think of, is each player in the crew selects their outpost preference while loading in, and you spawn in at the one that was most chosen. If there is a ship too close to that outpost, it spawns you at the second mos chosen. If all players choose the same outpost, but there is a ship too close, a different outpost is chosen at random.

  • @rockinpodunk wow you are just totally avoiding others then. I don't see why choosing where you spawn is an issue. There are way more bigger problems that need to be fixed.

    I mean avoiding others is how current spawn points are chosen, I'm just trying to think of a way to keep that existing system to allow players to have a say in where they spawn. Different players have preferences. I personally prefer spawning at Galleon's grave or Daggertooth.

    I certainly wouldn't say this is a high priority request, it would just be nice. This is a forum for all suggestions, not just the ones that need to happen first.

  • @rockinpodunk Galleons grave is my favorite. I like sitting at the highest point and watch the sunset.

  • @xXxROOKxXx I just figure out what you meant, and I see what you mean. I feel like this could be combated be increasing that range should extend farther than cannons can fire, and might extended even to other island instead.

  • @drewbob7 yeah, I could have explained it better I guess. No matter how far out you make it “safe” there will always be a line and people will always sit at that line. That’s my opinion anyways!
