USD$60 = AUS$75 NOT AUS$100. Can someone with an IQ above that of a rubberplant please explain.

  • When I pre-ordered Sea of Thieves it was $60 American.
Being Australian I checked the currency exchange rate on that same day. As a pensioner I can't afford to blindly buy things and shrug it off to experience.

USD$60 = AUS$75.11 precisely. At that time of purchase.
The game was sold by Microsoft to all Australians for AUS$99.95. Why?
I can accept the currency exchange rate but not the added charge.

This was a digital download which doesn't involve the cost of handling or shipping.
Anyone from any part of the world can download it the same as the next country or continent at no extra cost to the company. So why the extra cost to the Australian consumer?

I bought two installments at approximately $200 (remember USD$60 = AUS$75) so I am owed (approx.) $50 in change.

If you agree that this was an injustice (even if your aren't an Aussie) [mod edited].
If you have a valid answer by all means state it. I am all ears.

  • prices for digital content usualy differ for all regions. Sometimes because of various taxes, but also to compensate for possible changes in exchange rate and is also the biggest part of it is, it's adjusted for the local market capabilities.

Simply put, richer countries with stronger markets will pay more than others.

  • Flagged, you already said this in a previous thread.

  • @blam320 why would saying the same thing in another post be flagged.. it was just a post in the other one this is a new topic.

  • @sir-lotus Please read my post again. There was a further $25 per installment placed on top of the currency exchange rate.

  • @admiral-rrrsole Sadly that's just what tends to happen. Lots of things do not sell for the exact equivalent of their prices elsewhere, and from the various complaints I've seen around the internet, games are usually a lot more expensive in Australia in particular. It'a not an issue exclusive to Sea Of Thieves. I'm not sure whether it started off due to some kind of tax or import duty, but it's been that way with physical copies of games for a while, and I guess that distributors (in this case MS) can't really price the digital version lower because then nobody would buy the physical copy and they'd lose potential profit on the manufacturing costs.

I could also be talking nonsense, but that's my understanding of the situation

  • @mr-spiderhead Thank you for taking the time to express what you think may be the reason or excuse for MS to do this.

  • @admiral-rrrsole Hello mate, currency conversions and pricing is done by the Microsoft Store and not Rare, if you wish to discuss either feel free to contact the Microsoft Store support team.

    Thanks,

I will close this thread down as it is not something that can be addressed here.
