Still no content

  • When this game came out, everyone was saying it was lacking in content. You had two enemy types (which the Kraken is a random occurrence which is lackluster), three factions with the same quest type (go here, kill this, get this, take it here), and two ships. The only "progression" they had was cosmetics (and no one ever goes "oh wow, you have THAT p90 skin.. I mean blunderbuss skin...).

Everyone defending this game (which I was one of those people) kept saying that they were gonna add stuff later. Content was coming.

Well, it's later. It's been a month since the game released. We're on 1.0.4. So, what new content is there? What is the biggest change we've seen now that so many people have become pirate legend and found that, even at end game, there's only more of the same quest type (go here, kill this, get this, take it here)?

A new cosmetic for pirate legends. It's been a month, guys. We kept saying "wait til' later," and later is here. The only thing we have that actually ADDS to the game, instead of just fixing all the many many bugs, is a new cosmetic item, and it's only for the end game.

It's later. There's still no content. And it's getting to be too late. The devs have left us to argue and take out our issues with the game on each other in the forums instead of actually addressing what we ACTUALLY have to say and creating a decent community. Adding one new enemy and microtransactions two months later after the bulk of their community has left is not good enough.

  • @imn0tacop theres literally a roadmap of content now. May will come weekly activities and a new content drop called the hungering deep

  • @gloog post it.

    disppears slowly underwater

  • @drbullhammer It's absurd to release a triple A game for $60 bucks and not ALREADY have the full game released. This isn't in Beta. I paid $60 for this.

  • @drbullhammer Honestly, I and a lot of people are pretty much done with this game, not because we're raging, not because we're upset that we keep dying, but because we're bored.

It's absurd to be bored with a $60 game after only a month.

  • I don't think new content is going to help this game that much, we'll see.

You bought the season pass too. Dont forget its all free.

I can't really tell how the game bores you, I'm playing on a daily basis, some times around 10 hours per day and I'm having a lot of fun, even doing the same type of quests! Maybe you should leave the game aside for like 6 months, and then come back to see the new content (?) Stuff's gonna be added, new factions for sure. People will need to grind for different factions from now on I guess, they will add more content for pirate legends athena level ~6 I believe.

Oh well can't wait to see ^^

  • @imn0tacop I agree that $60 is steep for a game that feels like more of a "shell." What ropes me back in, is that every update that comes, be it new skins, animals, missions, AI threats, events, or any form of content is FREE. We didn't pay for what sea of thieves is, necessarily, we paid for what it will be over the next...idk...three years maybe? You can take almost every game that's put out today, sit down with plenty of time, and beat it in a months time, only to have to pay another $30 for the 10 hour expansions as they come out. This also applies to in game purchases for content that players just "have to have." Everything else that SoT has to offer is completely free.

  • @rogueal69 It's an investment in my point of view :p

Will there be cosmetic microtransactions, though? An AAA game without them is not an AAA game in 2018!

  • @imn0tacop
Pleasw, you don't even do research yet come into the forum to shippost. You probably spent more on cheetos and hot pockets last month than on this game.
Go download blender and make a few gameready ship models, your deadline is 1 month from now.
    Go!

  • @imn0tacop

They did release a road map. The Hungering Deep is dropping in May and will add new AI threats and mechanics to the game.

I agree the current price tag for the game ($89.95 CAD) does not feel good with the lack of content, but I've paid it and I do enjoy the game so I'm in it for the long haul and I'm genuinely excited for the new content to come.

We're getting a new ship type and more AI threats and mechanics with Cursed Sails, a map expansion and more AI threats and mechanics with Forsaken Isles, and weekly updates starting after the Hungering Deep launches that will all add something new to the game.

If you're burned out then take a break and come back in a few weeks. There's lots of games to keep you occupied. I'm still grinding through Monster Hunter World and Fortnite in between sailing sessions.

  • @drbullhammer Skyrim released for 10 dollars less and have 110% more content.

It's depressing that we're at the point where anyone find this acceptable. No would have found this acceptable 8 years ago. Tech has gotten better, and consumers have gotten lazier. Why, becuase gaming went mainstream, which make SoT the same thing as every maintstream trend: just that, a trend. When everyone other then the fringe is in agreement on something, that thing deserves some Creedence, dude.

"the world of sea of thieves seeths with possibilities" Not seeing the seething possibilities they promised.

"Careful, though, there could be anything down there -- literally -- we haven't finished designing it, yet. Joking!" I don't think they were joking, but way to hype up the idea that, again, thete's SO MUCH STUFF.

"Every player's decisions and discoveries will be different" Our decisions may be different, but everyone's going to discover one of the SAME THREE THINGS.

shows wall drawing "Don't mind that. It's probably nothin' -- just, kids" It actually is nothing. There's no lore.

"This game will ... given [players] the freedom to play with LIMITLESS possibilities"

So okay, sure, they didn't bring up anything specific, but if you think they didn't stay purposefully vague while still hyping the game to seem like more than it was, then you weren't actually there since the concept announcement like I was. You're just part of the trend, and you'll be defending the next big title no matter what when it comes out and you've forgotten this game even exists.

I'm not a big defender of the game, but you should pay more attention.

  • @captnsmile That's likely what I'll do, and you're right.

But I don't think that really negates what I'm saying at all. I paid to have the game when it came out. I didn't pay to maybe have what I was promised 6 months later.

I have fun with it sometimes the same way I have fun with VR chat, but VR chat isn't what I paid $60 for. :(

  • I think that the fact that all the content isnt available is great. Other games are going to come out that we all know were gonna buy, and as soon as that game gets boring a month later, after paying $60 for it, SoT will have had a new content update, and were right back on the seas...for next extra charge.

  • @rogueal69 I don't know how old you are, but the idea of MMO updates being free isn't new. Back in my day (old man voice) you didn't have to pay 1000 bucks just to have the full game. The EA way of doing things is fairly new for people in their 20's.

No man's sky was a big deal because it had no content, not because they were going to update it later. This is the NEW norm, not just the norm.

  • This game isn't compared to No Man's Sky for no reason.....and No Man's Sky probably had more content when it was released.

  • @greaseman85 It really feels like I get replies from a lot of people who don't know gaming before no mans sky, 4chans, and people like you who are probably the same age as me who actually remember playing Skyrim and Oblivion when they came out.

It feels like people have forgotten that games used to have standards, and now it's sad to see those standards are going away.

  • @imn0tacop said in Still no content:

@greaseman85 the same age as me who actually remember playing Skyrim

    That's actually hilarious.

  • @nebenkuh I actually didn't know about the "roadmap" being out, which that video isn't a roadmap.
    This is a roadmap https://police1013.com/index.php/roadmap/
That was a video talking about a few concepts they have and may have been working on.r

But my issue is that, they didn't have 1 month to add content. They started Development in 2014. They have four years to add content. Skyrim was made IN THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME with WORSE TECH and BIGGER EXPECTATIONS. They met and exceeded expectations. Rare has no excuse.

I'm not gonna be mean to you and say "you didn't do your research" because I don't expect you to care about that stuff. But please don't do the same here. I'm not trying to shitpost. I'm talking about something that genuinely upsets me and a lot of other people. When you only have stuff to say about my character and not about my arguments, you're the one shitposting.

And I've already given you more attention than you've earned from me, so if you wanna go 4chan troll on me and just keep that up, go for it, you can go find someone else to react to you.

  • @gloog
"who actually remember playing Skyrim and Oblivion when they came out."

Way to quote me out of context. Maybe learn to read next time. Done with you now. Have fun on 4chan.

  • Why am I getting a feeling of deja vu?

  • @imn0tacop
M8, it's quite apparent you don't know anything about game development or content creation. You barge into the forum spouting same old talking points we've heard since release and are somehow upset that there is no new content after 4 weeks, while not even being aware of the content they announced.

Skyrim was a sequel to an existing IP and concept. It was a generic single player RPG, a game we've seen probably thousands of times, done with an engine derived from an engine Bethesda had already used to create very similar games. It's not even apples to oranges to compare that to SoT, it's more like apples to idk, bycicles or something.

If you can't appreciate what Rare has developed in 4 years, just go somewhere else and come back until there is enough content for you.

  • @imn0tacop said in Still no content:

That is... that is... still hilarious. 2005 wow. Intense. You're a real old timer in the gaming world. Yep.

On a real note, I'd suggest moving on. Plenty of people here have said reasonable stuff and you are combative toward everyone.

For me, there's no paid dlc so $60 is great. Arguing the value of something is impossible, but game discussion outside of value can be constructive. Your OP was answered, let it go.

  • @imn0tacop They have stated countless times that the first month or so would be for addressing balance and bugs that crop up. if you really cant find a way to have fun in this game then you are playing it wrong.

  • @drbullhammer You have a tendency to always try and delegitimize the person you disagree with through fallacy. Things like TL;DR don't help your argument. It only shows me that I shouldn't show your opinion as much respect as I am since you don't do the same for others.

My point about Skyrim isn't about how boring it was for any given person, my point is that Skyrim was cheaper, had more content, and was made in the same amount of time. Skyrim wasn't even a 10/10 game, and everyone hammered on the slight glitchyness of it. You even bag on it for how bored you got. But, for some reason, you're giving this game a pass?

I'm saying the standards have become extremely warped, and you're "skyrim bored me" but "sea of thieves is fine" statement is a perfect example of that.

And your argument about CS and HL2 is a pure strawman. Sure, your enjoyment of a game is subjective, but the amount of content there is is objective, and that's what we're talking about, not how much you enjoy it.

This is really what I'm getting at. When most people like a game, they defend their enjoyment of it no matter what. My disliking of the lack of content isn't be saying that the content that's there is bad. I'm just saying it's not enough for a game that promised more and took the money of over 2million players (whether you're multiplying that by 10 or 60).

They've announced the first content patch already man.... The Hungering Deep... They also released the roadmap of all the other content patches coming for the first period aswell, up to 3 other content patches with their own names that i don't remember the name of right now.

Hungering deep isn't far off now, mate. :)

  • @imn0tacop Yeah that video was like two friends hanging out and talking about things that would be cool to see. That was no roadmap.

  • @nebenkuh Okay, I'm done with people who just want to poison the well. If you want to discuss this instead of stroking your own ego, quit with the personal attacks. Otherwise, you're not worth anyone's time.

    Very. Who remembers Questron?

  • I support games being released as complete packages rather than disguised early access, I don't like day one patches because it implies that the game was not really done up until the first day of it's effective release, I also dislike when games have steap price entries, especially because I live in a third world country where the currency exchange raises the price a bit higher than usual.

All that said I do kind of understand why rare took so long to come out with the amount of gameplay that they did, probably inexperience with unreal engine took them longer to do the physics of the boats and the way the server tracks the map changes to all players than doing the gameplay loop.

In any case OP, you were ignorant of the fact that they adressed their content plans for the rest of the year and maybe beyond, they were quite descriptive of their next update, and for that you get a stern looking down upon from me.

  • @imn0tacop That guy is one of the trolls around here, ignore him.

  • @gloog You're only interested in putting other people down. So see ya. It wasn't nice talking to you. You may think everyone you disagree with is toxic, but trust me, you're toxic.
