This video pretty much sums it all up, with a lovely accent.

  • It doesn’t sum it up for me. I don’t want ship upgrades and NPC ships. I want a ton more stuff to do and see but I want what we have to be expanded on, not for the core experience to be changed.

  • @haxxorsauruz

This is very much how I feel about the game. I'm excited for the new content, but I would also like some actual purpose to the playing the game. Ship upgrades with certain trade offs and equipment that works better than old stuff (non-pvp) would be fantastic additions to this game as something to work towards. A goal. Something SoT certainly lacks right now.

People tend to spout on about "having fun for fun's sake" which is all well and good, but that only lasts so long and does not promise longevity for a video game.

  • @haxxorsauruz

Wow, having wasted almost 12 mins watching this I'll say this:

Like it or not, he is very wrong.

  • @haxxorsauruz

    awful video, sorry :(

i feel like he misses the point of the game

  • @haxxorsauruz All of your threads on this forum is full of salt, seen your name a couple of times in the forum just bashing the s''t out of this game. If you dont like it just leave it, cannot understand what you gain from this? Boring life?

  • If you don't like a game, you don't like a game. Should I make a video about Anno and tell the devs theres not enough action and way too many options and economic strategies? No. I just don't play it.

All these stupid reviewers are spoilt by the trend in game-development that include linear story arcs, guided gameplay loops and promised itemization with linear upgrade paths.

If a developer would create the best fireman game people would still rant about the game and say there's not enough to do than to extinguish fire.

stupid stupid internet, lost all its imagination

  • Yawn, only saw a couple of minutes but it's obviously yet another "progression" rant. I've never understood this attitude towards games. I play video games in my spare time for entertainment, the moment I feel I'm playing just for some "reward" in-game and not having fun along the way I get bored and play something I intrinsically enjoy instead. Rare has released a gem of a game without the typical grind towards items that allow you to grind better to get other items that allow you to grind even better than those, which in turn allows to work towards superior items with which you get to grind more efficently to... you get my point. If you guys are so desperately in need of a game where the gameplay takes a backseat to getting gear with increasingly higher stats, please go play WoW or something and let us have this?

  • @rk1-turbulence "without the typical grind towards items"

Hmm...Sir i think we´re not playing the same game. In SoT you grind and don´t get anything worth the grind.

Rare has done a awesome work with the graphics but also a bad work with many things like partymaking or the leak of content.
There is a ton of work for Rare not to loose many player.

  • @shinbabo I see you have not yet mastered the art of context.

  • I would love to see his take on why overwatch/etc is wrong.

I know that is completely pvp based competition game, but the rewards are the same.
You play because you want to, and you never improve your character.

Thank you. I feel similarly but I wasn’t sure how to word it without sounding rude or angry, but this is the way I feel too.

  • @haxxorsauruz thanks for linking this.

IMO he is 100% spot on. The same reason I haven’t played the last few days even though I have them off...just seems like a pointless grind.

  • It's been known that there would be no power progression in this game for a very long time. So....yeah, content is enough. If someone wants power progression, they shouldn't have bought this game.

  • The guy makes some valid points and has some nice ideas which I've not heard previously but as he admits much of what he said has been said a thousand times before.

Watching the last Rare "Feedback" video they mentioned what I understood to be mini quests/side missions. They said you'd bump into an AI and you'd be asked to do something for them.

From what they were saying this would contribute to you becoming Pirate Legend so presumably the reward of a side mission would be given to a one or more of the Gold/Soul/Mechant types. They didn't say much more than this but hinted that some of the harder ones would need co-operation between crews.

Greater variety of rewarded things to do is the way forward for me and this sound like a good step forward.

The video is on this page if you want to watch.

  • The REASON i bash this game is because i love it and hate it, its the best looking game ive played in a loong time as far as graphics, but its also a HUGE loss in potential.

I couldnt care less for more cosmetics, like he says, its pointless grind.

As he nicely puts it, making it wider doesnt make it deeper.

This game has no point to it, no goals other than stealing stuff from players and endless pointless pvp for what...more cosmetics?

Nope im done, this game is boring me to DEATH at the moment, gonna check back when they release the new May stuff, but i fear its gonna be more cosmetics and a single new mechanic based on just that new content.

Enjoy the salty sea of griefers, i got other titles to spend my time in that actually rewards my time.

He is VERY spot on, it was an eye opener for me. Been sticking with this for a long time hoping it would progress the right way. Cosmetics and pointless pvp and toxic ingame behavior has finally gotten to me, im done.

It really isnt that hard to keep pvp balanced and give us new gear that has tradeoffs etc. New paints and hats isnt gonna cut it, this game is gonna be dead in a few months at max.

  • I be discoverin the purpose in the game: Sendin' sloopers and twelve year olds to the watery grave

If it aint broke don't fix it.

  • @haxxorsauruz And here comes the neighborhood negative nancy that says he's done with the game but yet keeps posting c**p about how he doesn't like the game. I don't think you understand what being done means.

  • @haxxorsauruz Except he is wrong, to me. It is an opinion. I don't want ship upgrades or NPC ships.

  • Yes, let's replace the pointless grind for cosmetics with the pointless grind for gear.

    BRILLIANT!!

And having people with better stats will DEFINITELY stop the griefing complaints, 100%.

  • In my opinion I don't think we need better stats, some games don't have that progression and are very enjoyable, and some only have cosmetic rewards and are still enjoyable. The grind to cosmetic look pointless to some players, for me, it isn't. I respect your opinion and heavily disagree with it. I can't say the video is wrong, but I definitely can't say he is right, it is just an opinion, one I disagree.

  • @haxxorsauruz This is an opinion. There are plenty others.

When you go to the restaurant, if you don't like fish you don't blame the chef because you don't like fish. You just order something else. It's the same for the games. If you don't like it, don't play it. But it's not because you don't like it that it's bad or wrong.

People hate that simple reasoning because it's like admitting that they are losing their time in a lost battle. It's easier to blame the devs. You feel less responsible this way, because it's the game who is going wrong, not you. And posting this kind of videos make you feel like your the righteous one, but actually it's just a confirmation bias and you're the victim of your own self short-sighted beliefs and excessive pride.

Go on. Continue to lose your time. Find your fellow people to unite your biased arguments. In the end you'll just give up, while in meantime the game is actually pleasing other people the way it's going.

  • Overwatch, Fortnite battle Royal, PUBG.....

Sea of Thieves fits that genre of game, its not trying to be World of Warcraft..... but I did appreciate the Elite comments, I thought the same,

My God, man, this is the most well spoken way to convey this sentiment that I have seen. And I feel like it is ever so present in literally everything the public consumes these days, although video game communities tend to exacerbate the behavior. I just may use this in the future, as it perfectly encapsulates the mentality and what is wrong with it.

You're wrong. Sorry but they said time and time again that they would never add leveling or any way for people to have an advantage over others. Why you and so many others can't grasp that is mind boggling. Its really not that hard to understand. YOU! Are playing the wrong game. YOU! are on the wrong forums. YOU! Need to stop with this same garbage over and over! Not.Hard.To.Understand.

  • As someone who is VERY driven by concrete progression and doesn't care about cosmetics at all... I can say the video posted is entirely wrong about the game.

  • Don't let the door hit you on the way out, OP.

  • @haxxorsauruz Except AI sips have NOT been hinted at, rare said they want players to rely on the fact that if they see a ship on the horizon, it's an enemy player crew... This dude is spreading false information and hyping the community about features confirmed to be rejected by rare, lol.

I do agree, the game needs more depth, instead of width... But at this point, either is welcome... we just need an update. :D

  • @mubhcaeb78
Thank you. I was waiting for someone to bring that up haha.

  • I sort of agree with the video, it’s seams to be getting harder to level up and loot is definitely becoming worth less and less. When I started I would hit at least 3/4 captains chests per three part big voyage and they were worth like 1k. Now it’s just the low level chests.the most I got paid tonight for the two captains chests (out of 18 other chests) was 800 gold. The amount of level up exp has dropped too. I won’t give up on the game as I do like the way it plays and you can have some real laughs with other crews. It just feels a bit empty with the not worth doing missions.

  • This notion is pretty much echoed by everyone. SoT should have been pirate Elite. There's nothing wrong with cosmetics only, just not for a pirate game. In a pirate game, the very premise that is built into the environment is about gaining power and/or functionality. Pirates don't fight on equal playing fields. And calling out successful cosmetic games like Pubg or Overwatch shows extreme lack of intellect on game design.

Those are competitive PvP games where the sole reason to play long-term is to improve a stat such as win/loss or K/D, or to otherwise get good enough to play it as an e-sport. SoT is not a competitive game where you can really feel yourself improve from battle to battle outside the very beginning. It's an open-world sandbox game that is set in the pirate universe. Other games have already laid the foundation for how that's supposed to play out. Look to Sid Meier's, POTCO, Eve, and of course Elite. The space games have a lot of similarities to the age of piracy in fact.

SoT is a fine game in the short-run, and that's why more casual players seem to over-defend it. But an open-world pirate game should be an extremely bingeable game; it shouldn't be a casual experience like a Mario Party game. No, it's wholly expected by the majority of gamers that such a game be extremely bingeable and won't get boring after thousands of hours without new content drops. You can like SoT for what it is now, but its potential as the ultimate pirate game simply cannot be met if it doesn't meet the majority of gamers halfway with what we expect from this kind of genre.

  • I'm a bit baffled by people who are perfectly fine with mindless tasks just as long as they get a pat on the head for it. The problem isn't the lack of reward for insipid drudgery. The problem is the insipid drudgery. I'm crossing my fingers that Rare will come up with something different that will convince me to come back to, and purchase this title, but more of the same absolutely won't do it. I do not want grinding at all. I refuse to do it. I didn't do it in alpha or beta. I did enough missions to find out they were terrible, and that was the end of it. I do not care about a pat on the head or a meaningless trinket. I do not want a statistical advantage either. I'd rather a game be about skill than promotion through attrition. In essence people who want this are like that manager in every company that is dumber than a post, but they've been there 30 years, so...
I want purpose, but I want to be able to go out, find it, and decide what it will be myself. The key there is PURPOSE, so I don't mean goofing around with instruments and grog in a glorified chat program.

  • Like mentioned before, the developers stated a long time ago that there will be no power progression so why whine about it. If the game isn't for you then it's just not for you.

May be a bad example but Fortnite, arguably the biggest game out right now, has no power progression, has weekly updates, has cosmetics and you do the same thing every time you play. I understand Fortnite is free to play but you get the idea.

This game is about making your own fun instead of being spoon fed fun. Stop worrying about getting to pirate legend and expecting a light saber with +100 STR as a reward. Just play the game and goof off, trust me you'll see the enjoyment in this game.
