WHAT IS SEA OF THIEVES? (your comments will add to the description)

  • BECOME A PIRATE, this is not a sailing simulator, this is a PIRATE'S GAME, a random story generator every time you play. You're gonna get attacked, you're gonna get killed, PEOPLE ARE GONNA STEAL YOUR LOOT AS SOON AS YOU GET TO THE ISLAND YOU'RE TRYING TO CASH IT IN EVEN IF YOU DID ALL THE HARD WORK, people can be "douches" to you, THAT'S WHAT THIS GAME IS OFFERING. The oportunitie to become the kind of pirate you want to be. This doesn't mean you have to be "the evil pirate", but don't expect everyone to play as you do in a game that lets you be the bad guy! Welcome to SEA OF THIEVES! Set sail in a huge sea filled with other pirates, the kraken, treasure chests, skelletons, sharks, snakes, chickens, pigs and secret locations (more content will be added soon). Start your voyage with a mission or without it, be the fear of the sea or the hero sailors need, THAT'S UP TO YOU!

  • Sea of Thieves, no, Sea of Explorers, wait that's not right, there isn't anything to explore...hang on, I got this. Sea of Couriers! That kind of works, but it still isn't right. Pirate's cove! Well that isn't true either because you aren't really a pirate...hmmm, what are you? Sea of Archaeologist? Sea of Skull forts? Sea of Chicken catchers? Sea of Pig Feeders? Hmm...One of these names will work better than the others, but I guess Sea of Thieves will do for now.

  • A beautiful game world full of lovingly crafted islands. A sailing simulator that rewards real world knowledge. A game where people with no imagination endlessly grind boxes in the most boring way possible.

Nothing to explore? Get off your ship, there are secret treasures even in underwater caves, You're not a pirate? Oxford definitions: 1° A person who appropriates or reproduces the work of another for profit without permission, usually in contravention of patent or copyright. I guess you've never stolen someone's loot in the game... 2° A person who attacks and robs ships at sea. I guess you haven't done that either... Shall I continue or is that enough?

Ok, I'll play along. So there is a few under water caves in the world of re-used assets. There is also some things you can steal, boats or otherwise, that can magically be destroyed under your feet by the drone control a pirate has on their wrist watches. Stealing someone's loot get you one of the game's many Palette swaps to either place on you or your boat, oh how exciting! So, I stand by what I said on nothing to explore because the game tends to reuse old vistas to make new ones seem "Vibrant and fresh!" Kudos if you found an underwater cave, which you likely did by someone telling the location in the first place, but the game has the same things over and over in terms of exploration.

As for being a pirate, oh sure, you can loot, pillage, plunder, hoard your booty and it still amounts to the same thing, a fancy coat! All comes out to be pretty pointless and honestly, if you want my opinion on what SoT's is, it's a glorified sit down simulator where you can talk with friends, but they charge you 60 dollars for the admission.

The only thing I agree with you are the rewards of doing anything in game, you should get better and new weapons noobs can't afford, not just cosmetics.

  • @carlosylu Will never happen because RARE is against vertical progression as it would ruin the "Balance" and I say that mildy, that the game has already. They want a new person to be able to jump into the game and be on the same level as someone who has been there for 1000 hours.

Still, they could add things like new UNLOCKABLE ships, that are not better, just different in a lot of ways, new UNLOCKABLE pirate moves (carry more than 2 weapons, have new kinds of weapons, etc.). Content that adds to your game, but not in a vertical way.

  • @carlosylu That would add to an imbalance however because people would just carry a ton of guns(Which would be realistic in a sense because Pirates hardly reloaded their flintlocks.)

A lot of people who have been in the alpha already know all the random chest locations by heart. It's not really "exploring" if you just check off all of the areas where you already know stuff can spawn at.

As for pirating, it is amusing that you can reach pirate legend without stealing. In fact, you are far more likely to do so than to prioritize sinking ships that likely have nothing on them. Stealing stuff off of people that attacked you isn't really pirating. I'm not sure if it's considered piracy to steal from the skeleton forts. Not too many would argue that the skeletons have any rights to their stuff anymore I guess. And if two ships are fighting each other over a fort, they aren't really stealing from each other.

  • Sea of Self-Centered Bigotry Against People Who Have Different Playstyles.

Doesn't have quite the ring to it but I think that accurately describes how toxic the community has grown over the idea that others want to enjoy the game in a way different from how others think the game should be played.

It's not being toxic... The game is called sea of THIEVES, if you want the game not to have THIEVES then play a sailing simulator... There shouldn't be hard feelings on people who steal your loot! Even at the outpost! THAT'S BEING TOXIC

Come up with a better argument rather than playing the semantics game over the title. That's been done to death and is about as shallow as it gets. Sea of Thieves is a game about piracy and there currently is no actual piracy beyond fighting with other pirates.

Here is the million dollar question: why do YOU care if others want to play the game in a way different than how you play it? It will not effect YOU in any negative way, it will only affect THEM in a positive way. Seriously, come up with a response that isn't arguing over "it's called Sea of Thieves not Sea of Carebears, hurrrdurrr." Tell me why Rare shouldn't listen to these people when Rare has stated that they want to be inclusive and welcome as many people into the game as possible.

Unless there's less than 24 people who want to play on PvP servers, you'll be entirely unaffected by any optional PvE servers added to the game.

How will it affect ME? PvP palyers almost never do missions, that's for PvE, if there ain't no "mission grinders" what's the point of PvP? "Yes! lets sink that galleon, it won't have any loot in it, but lets sink it even if it's pointless". No PvE players in the same games as PvP players = less thrill for the PvE and no rewards for the PvP and pointless/lame Skull Forts. Another question?

Okay so you just lose people to prey on when you don't want to do the work yourself. Sounds like PvE servers would be working as intended then.

I like PvE as much as I like PvP, in a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being a PvE and 10 a PvP, I consider my taste in 5, and when I'm grinding missions I LOVE THE THRILL OF BEING CHASED FOR MY LOOT, it makes the game waaaaay better. You just made an argument supposing I only like the PvP, but that's really wrong, I like the mix! That's the point of the game, and again, why name a game sea of THIEVES and then separate thieves from mission grinders? And one more point, DO YOU REALLY THINK SINKING A SHIP IS EASIER THAN FINDING A TREASURE? (either you only fight noobs or you have never gone to a skull fort... "you don't want to do all the work yourself" stealing loot is doing work as a THIEVE.

And none of that will change no matter how many caps you throw on your words to try and make it sound like PvE servers would end all of that.

Don't pretend that everyone will flock over to a PvE server just to do the treasure aspect and everyone who only wants to PvP will do the PvP option. People who want to do both will still be able to play normally just fine, but those who want to relax and breathe some without the threat of losing all progress in a session will be able to do so.

Rare could disable Skeleton Forts on PvE servers for all I care. Just giving players the option to play the way they want is a step in a better direction, and opens the game up to so many more players. Doesn't matter if you think it would be boring, because it's not about making a change for you. It's about making a change that encompasses Rare's goal to open the game up to as many as possible and be inclusive of those who do not want to always deal with the risk of PvP ruining their few hours of play time.

Again, I'm not talking about just me, there's a lot of people, not only PvP who think this "split servers" feature shouldn't happen.

Here's the fact: We will never know how may people want the split to happen and how many don't, as you said, this is not about you and me, this is about the community. If they make a voting poll we'll know what the people prefer, but for now, you're one of the people who want it to happen, and I'm one of the people who does not, and both arguments are valid until proven wrong by statistic facts
