Not because they aren’t fun, but because it’s always one chest on an island, they can be difficult from time to time, and they can end up being a c****y chest.

@sense-field I disagree. Again, I'm surprised they all actually lead to a chest to begin with. They don't have to. You could solve the riddle and then it end up being a note saying "You found me. Congrats!"
What's the alternative? That Rare guarantees that a riddle quest be at least a certain caliber chest?
@thickbeagle Riddle Quests suck. I would be cool with them adding them to other factions though. Imagine following a riddle for a fabled golden chicken or for captain black at the bottom of a sea cave. The treasure doesn't have to be the only riddles and they should add some variety to the game
@sense-field what if these quest provided a cashe of multiple chest or perhaps a hidden cave that had loot, skulls and merchant items, then it would be worth the trip.
Yep...that’s pretty much the conclusion I came to after reading all the reddit comments.
I think itd be cool if the riddle chest were always cursed and that they had different cursed chests.
Chest of souls: skeletons spawn around you every 2 minutes, including on your ship
Chest of pestilence: when you pick it up you get poisened and puke
You could do goofy cursed chests as well, like one that plays a song on loop the entire time or one that is really obvious from far away and needs to be hidden.
@sense-field
You suck... Just kidding.
What do you think as an alternative?
For instance I think, longer riddle quests that give more chests that get progressively harder, giving better chests as you get further along.
@noob-smoke95
As in, a quest gives three chests. The first is easy to find and a castaway. The second is harder and a marauders. The third is very difficult and a captains or cursed.
Here is another post wotu similar ideas:
@thickbeagle said in Riddles should reward 1-3 high level chests:
Right now, riddles are considered trash, since they can be very difficult, and only reward one random chest. I think riddles can be really fun and have incredible potential for further content, if they were made worthwhile. To do this I'm thinking about increasing the reward a lot, since 4+ "x marks the spot maps" are the best for grinding currently. Riddles should reward captains level chests at least and maybe some grog and weeping chests mixed in there. As reputation increases, a balance of difficulty and reward will increase as well, rewarding something like 1-3 or 2-3 or 2-4 chests, all captain level chests or similar. I think some cool new, and unique chests could be added through this.
@unkeptbean6214
Yeah I think that's a really good idea. Like finding a special boss in a secret location or in a haunted shipwreck, or you could find some legendary seasonings for chef Guelard or something.
Rewards for Riddle quests DEFINITELY need to be better than what they are. You know how annoying it is spending so much time trying to figure out the riddle only to find a Castaway's chest? I could have stopped at the Fort nearby and grabbed a bunch of TNT barrels and made more selling those. Though the time spent is, of course, generally depending on the length of the Riddle. So I think that Riddle quests should have rewards that are more equal to the length of the Riddle in the first place. That or just make them better overall, like get nothing smaller than a Marauder's Chest. Because what self-respecting pirate goes to all the bother of making a clever riddle for a pitiful amount of Gold?
@da-lootmasta This game is all about time spent vs rewards acquired. I think I'm about to start skipping riddle quests entirely because they consume so much time and there is literally zero reason to skip quests because quest completion awards no xp
@sense-field They are definitely lacking. lots of running around for a POS chest. As for the difficulty.... yeah there is none, longest I took was maybe 10minutes, and only cause I headed to the SE side of the island and not the SW. That and they are not interesting, kinda wish they would tell a story.
For endgame riddle quest I'd like to see it just describe the island, not give its name, with an idea of where to dig.
"Find your way to the shark's tooth island, head to the morning sun and dig between the palms." This would reveal the next riddle that may send yours to another island. Splitting it up like this could allow them to add a story to the riddle.
Cause I got to take it to the next leave. How awesome would it be if they referenced players in the story? Maybe anyone that's PL or level 50 in GH would get their name randomly added to the story as the captains treasure you are looking for.
GIT GUD AT SOLVING THEM FASTER BRUH! IT'S A PIRATE GAME WHAT YOU EXPECT!!! THE GAME IS A PIRATE TOO!!!
Sorry, I had to do this, because people give this response a lot around here.
Quite a few threads have been made about this "problem" of riddles taking a long time but yielding very low rewards, and many people want that fixed. I understand, it is not fun to spend a lot of time on a voyage only for the reward to be bad.
Now imagine how people who are calling for private servers or PvE-only option feel having spent a lot of time digging up loot, only to be attacked and lose everything. Those people are constantly met with the responses "git gud bruh" or "it's a pirate game!!" or something like that.
The point is, it is not very fun to spend a lot of your time in the game with nothing to show for it.
