Xbox app is horrible for PC users

  • Its straight up garbage. People dont get invites like they should, and thats even if the damned thing can display your friends list. Party connections are garbage, people struggle to connect, and often times even crash your party when they join.
Please move this title to Steam. Your PC players will thank you.

  • @kaladias Check your Windows 10 Settings.

For some reason when I checked my App Settings, Sea of Thieves was the ONLY app that was disabled on the list.

When I turned it on, I was able to start getting the messages/alerts that you've been missing.

  • @kaladias personally I’ve not had any problems with sending or receiving invites through the Xbox app. It’s working as intended for me :)

  • @kaladias Don't worry it's horrible for Xbox users too.

  • @wildeyedjokr all my notifications are turned on. I receive messages just fine, but not party invites or game invites

  • @kaladias I almost never hear xbox in game members, and only sometimes through party if and when it works right. Maybe Microsoft just hates us Canadians? My windows 10 settings are good as well. Steam would be an excellent choice, but would lose the xbox cross platform no? I've been told by long time players that Elite Dangerous has a galaxy for each platform, for example.

  • @sen0rkarlos Steam has a whole bunch of cross play titles. Street Fighter 5, Final Fantasy Online, and Rocket League are just a few of the bigger ones. Steam plays nicely with all other consoles.

  • My biggest concern is, I don't see steam adding VAC or any other forms of anti-cheat.

Not to say that Microsofts is the golden example - But with Live, atleast most people don't want to spend a bunch on XBL and have it just up and disappear. (I'm mentioning this based on the current state of PUBG - Steams biggest current title).

  • @wildeyedjokr its not up to Steam to employ anti-cheat measures. There are tons of games on Steam that use anti-cheat programs, and tons that don't. Its ultimately their (game devs) decision to implement one or not, not Steam's.

  • @lizalaroo biggest problem is I cant talk with people in the party chat, if I join it blows their ears out with loud static, no fix.

  • Voice chat didn't work for me. Apparently SoT was literally the only thing where mic communication was disabled by default for whatever bizarre reason.

Still don't get any multiplayer invites, messages or any notifications though. I currently have be the one to invite everybody to the crew since I'm the only one who isn't getting the invites.
(and yes, people are definitely trying to invite me. I have friends, damn it...I promise)

    Congratulations?

That it works for you doesn't erase or help the fact it doesn't for others.

  • That's not Rare's problem. That would be Xbox Support

  • There is nothing wrong with the Xbox app. Your computer settings must be wrong. Sea of Thieves will never, ever, ever be on steam.

  • @linknol I'm in the same boat, I always have to be the host for parties. I've missed a few groups because my friends didnt know I wasnt seeing their invites.

  • @lord-sphinktus http://prntscr.com/j3k3w6 http://prntscr.com/j3k4au

where, exactly, are my settings wrong?

  • I'm guessing because I can't see your configuration, that you may be having a NaT related problem. Is your NaT set to open? Most problems with Xbox live on PC or Xbox are actually home network problems.

  • @lord-sphinktus NAT is open, as I play a lot of online games, competitive, casual, and everything in between. I've tried following xbox's troubleshooting steps and all my notification settings are as they should be. The Xbox App is flawed and needs a lot of work to become a proper gaming platform. Does nobody remember Games For Windows Live? Different colour, same s**t.

  • I feel like a jerk for recommending this game to my PC friends, we all have similar problems with the xbox app. Wonder if its too late for a refund..

I don't mean to try to question you, but I don't see "Sea Of Thieves" on that App list. That's the application that needs access, not the Xbox App itself.

Also - click the notifications in the bottom right of your tool bar - Make sure it's not set to "Quiet Hours" - That was another big source of the problem (for me) that I forgot to mention.

  • @wildeyedjokr you wouldn't see Sea of Thieves on the App list, because its not an App... Also Quiet Hours would block messages too, but I get those just fine. Just not party or game invites.

Check your PCs privacy settings is the last suggestion I can really think of.

That's where "Sea of Thieves" is listed as an app - I knew I saw it somewhere, had to look up how to get back to it.

I have the same exact problem. What headset do you use and how is it plugged in?

  • @ghost-0f-dawn ear buds usually and a separate mic. But i have even tried my old gaming headset with a built in mic. ...both are the same. I can hear them great but i have to mute myself or their ears will bleed

  • You’re barking up the wrong tree

  • @johnny-vain Strange indeed. I use an Astro A40 plugged in to the green/pink 3.5mm jacks. BUT if I plug my headset into an Xbox One controller and plug the controller into a USB... my headset works fine free of buzz on the Xbox App. That in of itself is really fishy.

  • @ghost-0f-dawn @Johnny-Vain Try turning your mic sensitivity way down in the Windows settings. That worked for me.

  • @kaladias
I have absolutely no problems with the X-box app on windows 10. I get all notifications and everything else, every other pc player I have met is the same as me. It must be a problem with your pc, or a setting. The only issue I have with the X-box app is there isn’t an option to enable push to talk.

  • @johnny-vain the only problem I had in the beginning was my security suite was not allowing audio from Sea of Thieves. As soon as I changed the setting it was brilliant, oh and remembering to set the in game setting from speakers to headphones :)

  • Strange. I play on both Xbox and PC. And I have no problems inviting and playing on PC using the Xbox interface section in Windows 10.

  • @sen0rkarlos the ingame chat has never worked for me on Xbox. Party chat works kinda ok, just a lot of echo's.

maybe they should sell the big mac in burger king lol.

  • @linknol Dude I think I know the problem, for LFG's I was sending lots of messages and got nothing til someone told me my levels were too low, I asked them what it showed and they said "0/0/0", no wonder no-one invited me. I don't know how to fix it so whenever I show interest I tell them my stats are glitched and give them my real levels, that might help. Good luck!

  • @kaladias I agree. the xbox app win 10 and this game forces on us is pure C**P.

  • @johnny-vain said in Xbox app is horrible for PC users:

I had the same thing. I can talk normally on steam, discord, and in-game.

When I created a group or joined someone else's, I had that static noise. When I tested with a friend it was fine. It's pretty buggy.

  • Unpopular opinion; I don't mind the Xbox app at all. I've had no problems.
