Disappearing bounty after sinking ships....how to be more pirate?

  • Ahoy,

There is a lot I have on my mind in terms of suggestion and feedback, but I will stay true to one particular issues this time. My question is, how to be more pirate when the game itself does not encourage that sort of behaviour and often does quite the opposite. Becoming a pirate legend via extremely long PvE grind is really not my cup of tea nor does it anyhow reflects piracy as such. It is rather mere sideline of all the activities which is a shame.

Now, to the concrete problem. I decided to be more pirate and raid shipment with a friend on a sloop. Hunting galleons was what we thought best alternative to mindless grind that has nothing to do piracy, let the others farm random bounty and we'll try to hunt them down and steal it. However, after sinking a number of ships with sizeable bounty on board,to our dismay, we learned the booty was gone with the ship. Nothing was left and our effort has come into vain! Now, I do not know whether that is a glitch or a mechanic of the game. Hope for the former sincerely.

Some of you might say - but pirates are thieves not killers in first place. Here is the problem. Trying to overcome constantly respawning crew of a galleon with one or two man boarding party and still be able to run away with the loot without being killed on the run is apart from few cases a rather super daunting task. Without sinking their ship, the crew cannot be subdued to let off their cargo. They have nothing else to lose as there is not any penalty for losing a ship.

Thus a solution is seemingly at hand. I would really appreciate if the game encourage piracy by fixing this problem. Sometimes the naval combat lasts for dozens of minutes even hours. But why all this for nothing? I am not one of those griefers who would camp at outposts or complaining for lack of content, but hey if you make a pirate game, make it more about pirates!

    Cheers & "Be more pirate!"

  • My experience has been that when sunken ships despawn, their loot on-board will rise to the surface of the water after a short time. If it's nighttime, it may even 'glint' and be visible from far away.

The treasure rises to the surface for a few minutes and then sinks again if undisturbed.

    Possible explanations for your situation:

    1. The ships you're sinking have no treasure on-board.
    2. You're not searching beneath the waves for treasure that hasn't yet floated to the surface.
    3. You're not searching the wreck site soon enough, and the treasure has already floated and sunk once again.
    4. There could be a bug which is causing treasure to 'go down with the ship' and permanently disappear.

My credentials: One time I survived a treasure-laden wreck of my own ship, and observed these behaviors first-hand while fighting off sharks. Our treasure quickly rose to the surface, stayed there for a few minutes, and then began sinking. I was able to ensure that the treasure could be reclaimed by picking up the chests that would sink, and dropping them again after which they would rise to the surface for a few minutes once again. Eventually my crew came by with a new ship and we were able to reclaim everything.

  • @sixtheninth I've sunk many other ships, any loot they have on board always floats to the top, next to where their mermaid spawns.

Like @DasGrobvater said, it's possible that you sunk ships that didn't have anything on board, or somehow missed seeing it?

It can take a minute or 2 for it to float up, especially in deep water, since it won't start floating until the sinking ship has completely disappeared. So once the ship sinks, it sinks down to the bottom, then despawns, and the loot rises up from that point. Best thing to do is jump in and watch the ship sink, then you can see if anything is floating up or not.

  • I try to always check during combat what sort of cargo the ships have. If there is none, there is no need to carry on fighting. However, in the particular case from last hunt, a galleon was loaded with skulls. They sunk after my barrage, I swam to the point of wreck which disappeared and apart from three sharks, none skull was visible. They did not even surfaced. Also, if the bounty sink after resurfacing, is it going to stay on the seabed? I have always searched it if shallow enough, but to my dismay nothing could be found. Could crew prevent it by scuttling ship before it gets sunk perhaps?

Otherwise, I must have been clearly just unlucky with bugs. Thanks for clarification.
