Unfair to solo players

  • I know the whole concept of the game is to thieve, but I feel it's a little unfair when you pull into port solo and got a 5man crew killing you and looting your treasure you worked your butt off to find. I yelled at my misfortune and my Xbox for a good 15 minutes. I don't think I'll be playing again anytime soon.

  • @holleighberry You chose to go to a port that had other players at it?

  • @holleighberry
I play solo a lot. Solo is harder than playing with a crew. You are basically going to have to outwit your opponents because you lack the ability to fight them. Just try to keep and eye on the horizon and never engage in a fight unless you absolutely have to.

  • @vin-delanos Im new to the game, I figured all ports had other players on them. If there was a way to avoid other players while pulling into to an outpost, I had no clue about it.

  • @holleighberry It's all good man, honest mistake. Just try to play cautiously and view all ships as a potential threat and try to avoid them, you will be fine.

  • @zep-darkwater Thank you for the info! Much appreciated and happy sailing!

  • @holleighberry As a solo player, you need to be spending most of your time in the crow's nest. On your way to port, you should be actively looking for anyone at port, or on their way to it. If either of these conditions exist, then find another port to go to.

  • @holleighberry Any time man. Also if you don't see a ship at an outpost look for mermaids in the water. It indicates a player may be trying to camp the outpost. So if you see a ship or mermaid, just head for a safe outpost.

  • @vin-delanos Noted! Thank you!

  • It's happened to every solo player, more or less.

I got pretty mad the first couple times I got sunk with decent treasure. Now I get sunk less often, and I try to remember that nothing belongs to anyone until it's sold.

Anyhow, there are two ways forward:

    1. Do other things that you enjoy more.

    2. Take it as a learning experience and try not to let it happen again.

    Either way, good luck.

If you stick around, I'd welcome you to help us help Rare make the combined PvPvE experience the best it can be.

  • @holleighberry The fun and easy way to get to the crow's nest is to jump on the wheel/railing, and double-hop onto the ladder. It's better and faster than running around on the stairs.

Also, memorize your surroundings on the map. Always keep note of where you are in relation to the closest ourpost, and where an alternative outpost is in relation to your general position.

When turning in loot, always turn in the highest value items first. And if you're being chased, you can always zip by a port, keeping the wheel straight, and jump off to swim a piece of valuable loot ahore, then catch the mermaid back. Just make sure your ship isn't in-line to hit any land or go out of bounds in the meantime. Remember, if someone is chasing you, they generally are on the same heading with the same wind.

And as @syrunderscore said - you're going to get rolled in this game, regardless of if you're crewed or solo. Learn how to laugh it off and minimize the risk.

Why would you pull up to a port with a 5 man crew there? And dont you mean 4? go play nintendo then.

  • @syrunderscore Honestly If i could give op an award I would. This is how the forums are suppose to work. He had an issue came seeking knowledge found his answer the end.

No complaining about the answers given or moaning about pvp. He even thanked everyone. Seems I remember people being more like this.

  • @zep-darkwater Agreed.

  • @uvg-reign He/she stated already that they were new to the game no need to insult them they acted a lot more civil than you have.

  • @holleighberry https://www.windowscentral.com/sea-thieves-ship-guide

Check out that guide, or browse the forums for some player made ones. you can also add me and PM me if i'm online if you want to duo and i can show you the ropes.

  • @zep-darkwater

Totally! I hope I didn't come across as dismissive, I was going for a positive to helpful tone, but I wrote that only in response to the first post, so I didn't have a sense of who OP was yet.

I think we need to deal with some issues of toxicity and helping each other understand how the game works when it's at its best.

  • @holleighberry Oh, also, I encourage you to go find someone else who's in a vulnerable position. Sink them, kill them, and steal whatever comes floating to the surface. It will make you feel better about the whole thing (every sea dog has his day)

Sloops anchored up at large islands are generally an easy target.

  • @syrunderscore

I was responding to the other poster, but its ok lol no worries. I thought your post was rather helpful to be honest :).
I totally agree with your idea of community building, this community surely needs it.

Insult? I learnt this game solo. It hurts me to see people cry about it and seeing opening posts be like "not playing this game again" because they sank once

  • @uvg-reign A little bit of frustration is understandable. It's not like OP typed in all caps and called everyone at rare a bunch of dirtbags.

  • @uvg-reign

While I get your point, yes telling people to go play nintendo is somewhat insulting. I know how most players on the forums whine, but they stated they were new and seemed to take the information given at value and didn't complain further. I think their response to the information given was quite good.

Don't let the forums day to day post make you jaded against those who are truly trying to learn. I can understand your reaction given the current state of the forums, but that was truly just a new person lol.

I hadnt scrolled down far enough to see replies to the tips people gave, so cant argue with that. This thread isnt as stereotypical as the others that are similar

Its probably my age but years ago games were harder to work out then this and youd loss everything when your lives were up because memory cards wasnt a thing. Thats what I like about sot, except it is saved if you cash in

  • @holleighberry If you need someone to sail the seas with I always been solo and starting to get annoyed cause well solo IS harder.
I managed to sink a galeon by myself a week ago and today nearly soloed a skeleton fort but a 4 man crew kinda ruin the party for me, killed 2 of the guys and did massive damage to their ship but wasent enough :(

  • @holleighberry who plays solo on a online game you deserve to get sunk

  • @uvg-reign

Hey, no harm done. Like I said with the current state of the forums and all... I understand your position, I'm an ole school gamer too. Gamers these days are a little too easily put off. Those old games were truly hard core. As far as Nintendo goes, yeah there wasn't going to be a patch coming to fix or make anything easier lol.

    Nonsense.

  • @holleighberry You do have a point in that solo playing is a bit frustrating at some times, but I don't think meeting other players is the worst scenario. Anyways, I think it would be fair for solo players to have a tiny bit more reputation when completing journeys, it's a bit dissapointing having to take a great solo effort in doing a mission to be rewarded the same way you would be when playing with others

  • I appriciate everyones response and all info has been truly helpful! I have learned a lot and am doing much better in the game now that I understand it a little more. Thank you everyone! #apirateslifeforme!

I play solo and galleys run from me...

    🤔

  • @HoLLeiGhBeRRy
Ahhh... The salty solo players of ye ole Xbox USE LOOKING FOR GROUP YOU SCURVY B*****D

  • my friend and i got wrecked by another duo they were super deadly with the blunderbuss. I was super mad but when we respawned we were right by two sunken ships haha. more treasure is always round the corner so dont let it bother you too much

  • That's the risk of playing solo. Your choice.

  • @holleighberry I completely with you on this. I feel like solo players should get something to make it worth while. Maybe more reputation per turn in? Being invicible but unable to attack for 10 seconds after re spawning would be nice, maybe time to get away from spawn campers. I thought they fixed the blunderbuss but I'm still getting 1 shotted? Also a log more glitches right now on using cannons, even got locked out of being able to repair my ship. That was lovely.

Solo shouldn't be rewarded, as it's not the intention of the game. Player interaction is a main focus and to deliberately separate yourself shouldn't be boosted.

They fixed the blunderbuss from 1 shotting at medium range. It has to be point blank to 1 shot now, center mass, which is a bit easier to do on Xbox as they get the aim assist that autoaims to your center mass. Basically, they increased the spread of the pellets and reduced the individual dmg so 95% of the pellets have to hit to kill 1 shot.

Invulnerability when respawning would be extremely hard to balance. The main issue is that different powered systems load at different times. So one player may takes 2 seconds to load, and another 9 seconds. So if you did a 10 second blanket, the first person would have 8 seconds of invulnerability to abuse to gain an unfair advantage in repelling boarders. Even if it ends when he moves, he still gets visual and audio Intel he wouldn't have been able to safely gather with out said invulnerability.

Edit: I am a solo slooper.
