Deploy A Small Rowboat With Oars!

  • Hi,
The rowboat would come in handy many times and I think would be a great addition to the game.

When parking your ship near an island / shipwreck a lot of people accidentally drop the anchor way too far away/ or forget that they were meant to stop and don't want to ajust all sails and pull the anchor back up just to edge closer to the shore - and probably end up bottoming out on the shoreline. This results in a long and dangerous swim back to the ship whilst holding an item (chest/skull etc.)

So to counter this - once youve anchored, you could release a small rowing boat from the side/rear or perhaps even from inside the ship - into the water. Then, jump in there with your pals and row it to the shore- one player could row it themselves or 2 for a little more speed. Not fast enough however that it will take damage when hitting the shore - instead it would just scrape and stop.

Now you're on the island with your crewmates - you can ditch your rowboat and fully search the island - finding Crates, Chests, Skulls, Jewels, Kegs and all the goodies, drop it all in your rowboat and when your team are ready to leave - add an action to push the boat back out into the water (like when raising the anchor / adjusting sails - if your buddies help you it could be pushed a little faster) then once its floating again you can hop back in and row back to your ship's ladder to unload quickly - without the tedious job of slowly swimming back and forth and getting your ankles bitten by Jaws and his family.

This would also be incredibly useful when doing Merchant faction missions - when you need lots of different animals / when you have some rescource crates (Wood/Bananna and Cannonball) that you want to fill up. You could just throw all your rescource/pig crates chicken coops and snake baskets into the rowboat and row it to shore - saving 20 slow and steady trips back and forth. Now, you and your buddies can stay on the island as you collect all your many animals and goodies, then quickly and safely transport them all back to your ship in one run - without your animals drowning or being Jaws' dinner!

When you reach the side of your ship you can either transfer the goods by grabbing and jumping straight for the ladder, or just leave them in there and hoist the boat back up to where it was origionally stowed.

Perhaps the rowboat could take its own individual damage when hit with cannons and could drop off your ship mid battle - so if you did leave your goods on there, the enemy could possibly scoop it up and try hoist it onto their boat. I think the rowboat opens up many new opportunities to have fun or get the job done quicker (row boat stealth attacks, fishing if its added, quick looting etc.)

This concept could be optional and available to purchase as another ship upgrade - so you can buy the rowboat as a part of the ship customisation.
I wrote this post as hadn't heard it in detail anywhere else yet despite many peopke asking for it. Seems a no-brainer for a pirate game. I thought it was a great concept and that you guys could adapt and make it a really interesting as well as adding some more immersive realism to the game.

Really loving the game guys keep up the hard work cant wait for future updates!

  • @chronicdrymouth I’ve always wanted a small rowboat ever since the tech alpha. Would love to have it so that you’re name doesn’t show while in the boat as well, which would make for some great sneak attacks.

  • I don't see how the addition of the rowboats adds anything new to the game.

Maybe it would spawn when your ship sinks as one last resort to gather your loot and get back to an island...
Or if / when they do add a bigger ship that could not park anywhere near the island with bottoming out...

  • @chronicdrymouth

I've had this discussion with my kid.

Why waste time launching a row boat when you can shoot yourself to where you want to be on the island?

As for stockpiling chests on an island...... just swim them onboard instantly. You're saving little to no time.

..... and speed swimming is already very fast. I can't see the merit of a rowboat besides the immersion it would provide.

  • Agree that it would be cool and factually accurate to have a rowboat, but it wouldn't save time or anything. It would be hard to imagine how that would work, would it disappear when you set sail?

  • @stem589 l**o you obviously didn't read my post and havent played enough. anyway if its not for you thats why ive suggested it be added as a customisation..

  • @griffeythekid have you done any merchant missions at all?! this would save loads of time and prevent your chickens, pigs and snakes from drowning or shark attacks when going back to your boat. and if you are a good explorer like me and my pals, you wont come away from a big island with just one chest, we find multiple barrels and washed up items, crates and random chests, then we usually pile them all on the beach and do several slow trips back and forth to get them all on the ship. Like i said, in these instances it would be incredibly handy aswell as a cool addition to the realism of the game. In other instances such as arriving at a tiny island to kill an order of souls captain - yeah whats the point just blast him with a cannon.. But you have the option to do what you want.

I did read it, I just don't see the merit. An island has at most, 3 chests? (edit..... powder kegs..... merchant crates..... couple each island at best)

.... I also cut sail and sit my boat right against the shoreline.
The swim is only as far as you make it.

    ;)

  • Rowboats would be amazing in certain moments. A lot if times my crew and i will be on an island looking for something, when i spot a shipwreck far away(too far to swim, too time consuming to move galleon back and forth) in these moments i could simply row over there, grab everything and come back so we dont need to make a special stop later! Also if you are on a sloop and have a voyage with more than 2 things to grab(always) then the rowboat would save you time in bringing all the loot back.

  • @stem589 You need to explore some more then pal.. ever done a merchant mission?..

  • @stem589 just want to be THAT guy....we often find bottled messages with 6 chest per island and last night pulled up to a 1 chest island and found 3 additonal chests (2 captains), so you never know.

  • I was talking about this with my brother and he suggested it could hang off of the back of either boat. Also if it did this, you could leave the treasure on it for speed sake and it would be kewl if it could take its own damage somehow. Have its own paint jobs, Special oars etc.. (more stuff to spend gold on!)

  • @griffeythekid You could pull up to an island with all your chicken coops, pig crate, snakes baskets, wood/bananna/cannonball crates throw them in the row boat and row it to the shore, then go and fill up on all rescources, collect loads of animals, find a load of chests, crates and gunpowder barrels and throw it all back in the row boat and right up next to your ship - to completely avoid the water and save a lot of time. if you dont agree then youre not making the most out of each island you visit.. probably because its tine consuming.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for them existing, I just don't see myself using them.

A well parked ship makes a rowboat a waste of time.

  • @stem589 well hey, not everyones the amazing Captain Jack you claim to be, but sounds like we get a lot more booty than you..

I'm just trying to picture a scenario where a row boat would be faster than just parking my ship closer to shore?

Why drop animal crates, powder kegs, and chests into a row boat on shore, paddle 20 feet, and pick them all up again to carry them on board?

I'm not saying its a bad idea.
Heck, there's pictures of row boats as you sign into the game.
I'm just not seeing when people would use them.

  • @stem589 Dont worry mate if you dont want it you dont have to use it, carry on drifting into the bay for your 1 chest

    this guy gets it👏

  • @chronicdrymouth @stem589 I would love row boats. True story I gota 6 chest map on solo on a island i think bait cove were you really can't get really close and then I collected all my chests and put them in one spot and got 3 gun powder kegs, 2 skulls, and a hidden chest.... Then I heard the music... My boat got sank. Now they left... So I had no boat but I could use a row boat to quickly move stuff around to the boat and got done quicker. Cause I had to hide it all then come back but if I had a row boat... Lol you bet my booty I would have row boated that to the nearest outpost 😂

  • @durablewinner67 haha yeah man it would have been handy! i mean youd be caccing your pants the whole way there but ay its a whole new element of risk and fun

  • @chronicdrymouth I would have done it I mean a row boat would be harder to spot anyways lol... Can she it now. Guy looking through his spy glass.... What is that crazy s*b doing look at that booty... He is determined...... I think we should leave him alone L**O 🤣

  • @chronicdrymouth YES. Ever notice those little notches off the sides of the galleon? what if you found a stray rowboat, and took it in? a sloop could have one, a galleon could have two.

  • Decent idea. Swimming back and forth is annoying, but it encourages developing more skill with parking your boat. I would like to see a plank or something when at port - if close enough to dock, a plank becomes available.

    One word my friend: SHARKS.

  • Im almost 100% positive we will end up getting a rowboat at some point, i think they've even tested them before if that is the case i can't imagine them taking a huge amount of time to make, but i'm not developer i would think it would take longer to do the animations to row the boat then anything . I definitely would like to see these though. Another idea i had that i thought would be cool, but is probably never going to happen is having dolphins in the water or something we could grab their fin and catch a ride on them or something i think that would be cool too. I think that's actually one of the things i like the most about this game is that there is so much potential for this game.

  • @joeysav I'll race ya to the crescent isle!

  • @chronicdrymouth Maybe certain items could be to heavy to swim with and had to be transported in a rowboat? This could also allow you to carry an ammo box to an island. Or bring a barrel full of planks/cannon balls back to your ship.

  • @isaac-occam aye could be another option👍

  • @chronicdrymouth brilliant idea! I'd love to fill my rowboat with gunpowder barrels and sneak up on a galleon then detonate them lol. Stuff like that would be immensely fun.

  • “Just be sure the pig is willing to row.”

  • @sgt-thumbless aye exactly buddy that'd be really awesome haha
