Error code 0x80070005 when acquiring license

  • I get the error 0x80070005 when trying to start the download. It get to acquiring license and then fails. I talked with xbox 3 times already but they don't seem to have a fix at all.
I pre-purchased the game from Amazon Digital. I am able to search the game on my Xbox One Marketplace and download it but it is not showing in my Ready to Install. It's been almost 2 days and I just want to play the $60 game I bought.
    PLEASE HELP!

  • @The-Dead-Mythic Sounds almost like a similar issue i had once .. but i could download the app and play it but it remained in demo mode. This was minecraft for windows 10. It was a rare bug on microsofts side and there store . If you have managed to claim the code and you see it in your libary and ready to download then you need to contact microsoft. If the code cant been redeemed then you need to contact ether amazon or microsoft ot get this fixed.

There is also the possibility that you entered the code wrong if you cant even redeem it. O might be an 0 or the other way around . there are often also - in a code and trying with and without them might also be a thing

  • @noblackthunder I've already successfully entered the code. I can download the game and play it on my Xbox but ONLY if I search the Marketplace for the game. After i install from marketplace, it works fine on Xbox.

On pc however, I got to Sea of Thieves page, says I own it so I click install to PC. It starts download and goes to acquiring license, that's when the error pops up.

Xbox support verified I own the game.

  • @the-dead-mythic Ok so its a similar issue that i had once . Best is to call them i guess. I had the same a long time ago with minecraft windows 10. Its a pretty rare issue and 98% of support have never seen that issue. Ask them to escalate the issue to someone that knows a bit more. Again really rare issue but it can be fixed if you get the right person looking at it. But be aware that for me back then it did take a few weeks before that person managed to look at it and resolve it.. Just hang in there

    @The-Dead-Mythic

    ;)

  • @noblackthunder Ugggh, thanks mate. Wish me luck.

  • @the-dead-mythic Good luck!

  • I'm getting this error now trying to update to 1.0.1 patch. Anyone got any idea what this is about?

  • I am also getting this error. Finally just finished installing the 20 gigs after 6 hours.

Edit: I restarted my computer and it finished installing. All hail the restart fix!

  • What worked for me was signing out of my Microsoft profile in the Microsoft Store. I then clicked the "Use a different account" option instead of using the known account. You sign into the same account but just pretend it's a different account so the app realizes it again. This was the only way I could get the download to work. It then said that it was installed and ready to play instead of stuck on the last 20mb with an error: 0x80070005.

  • For those still seeing this 0x8007005 Store error message, could you give this temp workaround a try and see if it resolves it please.

Download the game from the store, to the point where it fails at the 99% / Install phase.

Type PowerShell in the search bar (bottom left) and press enter.

Copy and past the below command into the Powershell and press enter:

    Add-AppXPackage -RegisterByFamilyName -MainPackage Microsoft.SeaofThieves_8wekyb3d8bbwe

You will see a brief message that says it is processing.

Click Retry in the store and this should now succeed.

At that point, the game should be successfully installed and playable.

  • @rarecsm THANK YOU

  • @rarecsm I did this and I got an error:

  • Try this :
After you got the error, click on the retry arrow, when the download/install retry, reboot !

  • @ame-de-psi Thank you but didn't work.
I'll try to reinstall my windows 10.

  • @captainbenedikt it work for me at the seccond attempt.

  • @rarecsm This worked perfectly, but hopefully this will be fixed so you don't need to do that proccess.

  • So, I had to do all this just to get the game installed and now I crash constantly in game. It often crashes just as I load into the game but sometimes, like today, it lets me kill off a skull fort, get all the loot, return to an outpost, and then crashes!!!

It took me three days just to figure out how to install the game and now this. I'm nearly done fighting to play this game.

  • @rarecsm Great p**p deck it worked!! Thank you! This error has been driving me crazy. I only uninstalled the game hoping a fresh reinstall would correct random crashes. Drivers were not crashing only SoT.

    Hey there, CaptinBenedikt

You are running this as Administrator? If not try it and it may just work for you

    Regards,

  • Hey

I did, I tried running it as administrator and also tried giving myself special permission via NTFSSecurity script on PowerShell for WindowsApp directory but still no success.
Anyway, I managed to solve the installing issue by reinstalling windows 10 and everything works fine now but I still get the same error.

    Thanks for the respond

  • @ame-de-psi where is this retry arrow in windows powershell?
