Unable to update/download game on Windows 10. Error Code: 0x80070015

  • I have the game installed and have been playing it since launch.

I was getting this issue initially as well, but after restarting my computer a few times the issue seemed to have subsided and I could download the game.

Now I need to use the Windows Store to download the update but I can't seem to do that.

    What's going on?

    Here are my system specs:

    Operating System

    • Windows 10 Education 64-bit
      CPU
    • Intel Core i7 3770K @ 3.50GHz
    • Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
      RAM
    • 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 679MHz (10-10-10-27)
      Motherboard
    • ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P8Z77-V LK (LGA1155) 22 °C
      Graphics
    • OMEN by HP 32 (2560x1440@75Hz)
    • 6144 MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (ASUStek Computer Inc) 38 °C
      Storage
    • 2794GB Western Digital WDC WD30EZRX-00MMMB0 (SATA) 29 °C
    • 232GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB (SSD) 31 °C
      Optical Drives
    • HL-DT-ST BD-RE WH10LS30
      Audio
    • Realtek High Definition Audio

The game is installed on the SSD. I do have full-disk encryption through VeraCrypt, though that hasn't stopped me from playing other games (or installing this one, initially).

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • I should add: I have gone and deleted the Windows Store cache in AppData and restarted my computer and that didn't work.

  • Do you also get intermittent Sea of Thieves can't install Messages as well? I'm on 5th try at trying to install. It hits 19.63Gb then says installing then downloads again up to 20/22Gb then gives me the same error.

  • @oldsk00l1964 Honestly the download doesn't even start for me. It looks like it is about to begin, and then transitions to the "error".

  • Hey i just bought the game and had the same problem. Try restarting your computer, that's what fixed it for me.

  • I downloaded it allready and nowi become this error: 0x803F8001

Sea of Thieves is currently unavailable on your account

  • If u play the game on Game Pass.

There is a problem at the moment they try to fix it.

  • @dark-major-112 yeah can’t play with game pass this game is broke

  • So my fix at the moment is:

    • uninstall the game entirely from the computer.
    • delete the Microsoft store cache
    • restart the computer a bunch of times
    • download begins and installs SoT
  • There's actually 2 possible fixes - confirmed by many others elsewhere on the Internet.

I did both so not sure if either one separately will work or which of the 2 was the magic trick.

    1. Run C:\Windows\System32\WSReset.exe

I believe the WS is "Windows Store" and resets stuff there.

    1. Delete the contents of C:\Users[Windows Username]\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.WindowsStore_[Random String]\LocalCache

Obviously, "Windows Username" is your username. The "Random String" is something generated by Microsoft when they create these folders and files so it's different from person to person.

    1. Reboot PC

I had issues with getting the update yesterday and it worked for me. Brother did not have any issues. Prior to doing these steps I had rebooted [no good], uninstalled and re-installed like 3 times [it will download all ~20GBs and then say there's an error and try again later].

Don't waste your time (or bandwidth if you have a data cap) and try these steps and you should hopefully be good to go.

  • off topic. i am alone in whole sea. There are no more players, is it normal?
