XBOX App - Step by step guide to joining games for PC noobs.

  • Could someone please create one of these?

For some reason, it takes me ages to get into a group or form a group and have people join me. Invites don't seem to work all the time, either in game or out of the game. Friends appear offline when they aren't, or in game when they aren't.

Do you make a group in the xbox app and join there? Do we launch the game first? Is there a cohesive and well laid out troubleshooting guide, or do I just have to keep running the program that resets the MS Store?

Seriously, it takes about 20 minutes to join with others. Invites are sent, groups are made and it all gets just too confusing for this old gimmer because I don't see the invites anywhere and I can't join someone's party from their profile etc... etc...

NB: This is not in any way a PC gamers vs Console Gamers. I care not for what platform you use, I just want to know how to quickly join my friends or have them join me.

[edit] Honestly... I have no idea where the invites are supposed to appear. I've never seen one.

  • Technically the invites pops on the notifications zone on Win10. So if you missed it, you can find the invite there.

  • Ermm so I’m on pc an I play with friends on Xbox. I open up the Xbox app, my friend on console starts a chat party, I get an invite/notification thing... I click accept/join, we then talk s***e while I set up the game.
I pick galeon- full galeon, then literally on next screen there is another 3 empty slots, I click invite friends, a list of Xbox friends then appear, i “tick” the 3 friends then invite, they then appear with me, i then click set sail and we’re off. Literally step by step

  • @doctor-n****e If you don't appear to be getting any game invites then your win10 notifications are turned off.

Start, Settings, System, Notifications & Actions, turn on "get notifications from apps and other senders."

    Worked for me.

That's probably it. One of the first things I turned off on my new PC was notifications because they just wouldn't shut up :)

It's the reason why I turned them off as well. And then complained about not getting any game invites! I'm such an idiot.

  • @doctor-n****e My issue is inviting friends back that lag out while I am still in a game. So far I cannot find a way to do it on pc, and the only way to play with friends after they lag out is to exit the server and start all over again.

Yeah, it does seem to be a horrible mess at the moment for PC players. Usual caveat that this isn't a dig at console players, but the xbox app seems totally at odds with how windows works. It feels alien to use and just doesn't make sense, especially when I'm logged into windows using my MS account, but am forced to use the xbox handle that I chose years ago and haven't used for over a decade.

The whole aspect of joining/creating crews needs to be in-game, along with options to set crew size and whether your crew is private/public.

These are basic and fundamental requirements of any online game.

  • @doctor-n****e On top of the below mentioned posts, I would like to note that I recommend launching the game before invites are sent. It seemingly acts better when you are already connected to the services. If not, sometimes it gives copperbeard and failes to join onto the invite. :/

It would help if the xbox app let you know that it needed notifications turned on to receive invites. After all, windows is always nagging you about other annoying stuff you've turned off :D

The xbox app is really awful. I'm sure it works terrifically with the xbox, but Windows is a very different beast to a console interface, and MS should really be designing the app for use in Windows, rather than a feckless copy of the xbox interface.

  • @ravenmysteries OMG TY, I had no idea where the notifications for invites were supposed to be once I missed the initial pop up, since its nowhere in the xbox app (not messages, not activity alerts). So if I missed the 2 second pop up window I've been asking those people to resend the invite, but this is finally where its been the whole time.
