So here's the deal SoT has alot of potential BUT here's what I've found out in my few hours of experience.
SoT is THE premiere turn-off game for new players. I myself am extremely close to refunding and I'll explain.
Didn't get to play 1st night due to server issues, which at new releases are understandable, and was finally able to get in today. I started to learn the sailing mechanics and this is pretty fun but a bit wonky to figure out. So I moved on to quests.
Did a few of these and didn't get rewarded till after I logged out basically turning the game into log out simulator especially after that I couldn't log back in.
Got back in finally and got rewards so now here's where the fun really started and the flaws show through.
At it's core SoT is a PvPvE game and that's fine EXCEPT even with 3-5 outposts you get spawn camped? How the heck could Rare let this happen? Just spawn me at a random outpost but nope right back at the same one getting killed by 4 guys over and over. I logged out as there was zero point in continuing.
Logged back in a bit later and finally was alone. Went on a voyage to find chickens, 2 HOURS later I finally get them. I sail for the nearest outpost without a hitch. Get to the outpost and guess what? Guy comes from behind and kills the chicken I was carrying. I killed him but went to my boat to get the other one and it was gone. Now he didn't sell it as he came from the other way it just poofed. So 2 hours wasted what fun.
I decide I'll try it again, after killing this guy 3 more times, and as I get to the island here comes a ship of 4. Oh boy. Kill me, I spawn on ship, kill me again.......and it goes on. I log again and haven't been back.
Alot of people will say "get gud" or "get friends" or whatever the saying of the day is, thing is I am just not enjoying myself at all.
I feel the flaws of being killed repeatedly are just rediculous. Heck I lost all my equipment and had to relog just to continue. Spending 2+ hours only to be killed by 4 other players isn't pvp at all it's ganking and not fun.
Shoot it'd be different if they actually took your stuff, I didn't have anything, and actually had a plan in mind but this is literally the term griefing.
Not sure what I'm gonna do but very close to refunding and moving on to something better and fun.
