Sea of thieves is the first game you can afk and get to the end game

  • @timidobserver evryones takes about the fact that you can put ppl in jail

but nobody is think about ppl playing in a sloop.
there is basically nothing you can do in that case
You have to abandon your own ship and leave your own party and can t do anything against trolls

  • @cupohemlock Aye mate, the wailing souls be reaching the bottom o' the barrel dregs for post topics.

Neverminding the fact that you be at endgame as soon as you log in for the first time.....

  • There is no need to create a protection against a minority of oddballs who want to afk the game. You get nothing in terms of power, so the gameplay is all there is. Who would skip gameplay to get cosmetic items and then play the game?

Even if some wierdo does this you can just leave the session with him in the brig.

  • @timidobserver Agreed, I've also thought the brig should have a time limit, once up the crew can vote to allow to resume, or make the prisoner walk the plank (ie. vote kick from party) that person then just gets spawned on a random isle with a sloop.

  • Leeching and Power Leveling is nothing new.

However, in this game it doesn't do any harm or advantage so... who cares?

  • be fun if you could have a choice make them walk plank or even maroon them at a island. This would be for a kick from crew

  • Hopefully they add a kick feature

  • @thejolirouge it does since you lose a mate + you feed a troll
plus if you are on a sloop you will be solo....

  • Wrong. Can you afk and make gains? Yes. Is it the first game that has had this issue. Not. Even. Close.

  • Yea I don't leave when I'm brigged. I enjoy my free good until everyone leaves and then I leave as well a bit richer. If they want to play as 3 people and not have my help I don't mind getting some Netflix time in while making money. Can't grief someone who is getting paid to be there LOL

  • @edward-x-teach They should just make afk'ing a reportable offense that the team can review and lay bans for.

  • Dungeon Siege by microsoft was the first game you could afk to the end.

  • its not the only one. you can do that in WoW too if u have a good party :)

  • @edward-x-teach if u go afk it kicks you

  • @lessermagic sagte in Sea of thieves is the first game you can afk and get to the end game:

Kicking should be through a vote, with a nice cutscene of the perp walking the plank. ;)

    Ha, nice idea! :D

And yeah, I agree.. a kick/votekick option would be nice, since we had some trolls in our crew in the betaphase and couldn't do anything about it (besides leaving). In the end we rewarded the troll by selling our treasures and guess what? he left after grabbing the cash.. :/

  • @edward-x-teach Simple answer. If you are in the brig, you do not get treasure or credit with the trading companies.

  • @lessermagic
Yes! I have always thought that there should be an actual use for the plank! You figured it out that’s a great idea and maybe when they hit the water there’s like 6 sharks are waiting for them hahahaha

  • @tedakin Actually it is true, In the beta I went AFK to cook a pot of chili and came back and I was still there and my friends had finished 2 voyages.
(Edit: I forgot to mention I asked them to lock me in the brig so I would be on the ship if anything happened.)

  • Am I the only one that has never been locked in the Brig during Beta? LOL

  • They talked about rewards in brig and how they are going to change that. So.... yes. You are correct.

  • @edward-x-teach

You... expect to see alot of this?

  • @stratdave
I like chili was it mild or spicy?

  • @sergent-c****r It was spicy, it was pretty good.

  • The problem with not giving Brigged people any rewards and voting to kick them is that now the voters can easily start trolling solo people matchmaking. Before handing in all the rewards they just vote kick/brig them and they get nothing.

I honestly believe this is way more toxic than letting people afk farm. (Since the people who are being farmed upon can still start a new session when it's suitable for them.)

Just my two cents :D Let's keep thinking of solutions! Unless..maybe it's not that bad after all since people will leave and start a new session pretty fast? I guess we'll find out soon enough :D

  • @kigretheviking dunno about the final game, and how ppl will react but in beta i seen a lot doing that yes.

That or : sinking the ship, waste all my chests in the water, explode our powder barils on the ship etc etc

maybe ppl did that cauz hudge troll phase during beta and it was free...dunno

  • @stratdave
Oh nice some times I like to sprinkle cheddar on mine and let it melt a little then throw some sliced jalapeños on top of the cheese ..... good stuff!

  • @edward-x-teach
You won't be able to reach legendary pirate status by doing this!
Not all of the requirements are just handing in chests & getting gold etc
What about defeating skeleton forts or fighting the kraken?? Both will inevitably be required to reach legendary status! I'm certain the game will be able to tell if you fought them or not, therefore you won't get those achievements!

  • No they shouldn't add the ability to KICK people for the simple reason that PLAYER don't even use the BRIG system CORRECTLY.

PLAYER are putting players the the BRIG just for simple being a RANDOM PLAYER. This has happen to me more than once.

That is the primary reason i choose to PLAY SOLO.

If RARE added a KICK system NEW PLAYER would be getting KICK for not reason at all.

  • If anything RARE need to add the Ability to Report those who Brig people for just being Random.

Also add the ability to have to Galleon for Solo Players.

Yes its would be Hard but it should still be an Option.

  • @edward-x-teach said in Sea of thieves is the first game you can afk and get to the end game:

I'd be fine if they dropped the roleplaying brig stuff and just add some serious options dealing with mutual separation from your crew. The options should be designed to quickly resolve the issue and get all involved players playing the game. No walking the plank custscene or other roleplay time wasting needed.

For example the dialog could give you these options. For obvious reasons, number 1 is unavailable for sloops, but they still have 2, 3, and 4.

    1. Initiate vote to remove player from crew.
      a. Undecided on whether a kicked player should still get credit for any treasure chests that get turned in
after they get removed from the crew if they were present when the treasure chest was found, but I
      don't really care either way.
    2. Abandon your crew and be placed onto a sloop alone.
    3. Queue into another sloop crew
    4. Queue into another Galleon crew.
  • I think there is also another side to this coin.

When I join a random crew I always start by saying hello and trying to help them straight away by repairing, bailing water and or grabbing supplies and I will say to them in chat "is it okay if I join your crew and that I will help in anyway I can?", but even then there have been a couple of occasions where I have joined a crew and immediately been thrown in the brig for no reason. I have been tempted once or twice to stay in the brig and take a share of their treasure but I find that too boring so I leave and try another crew.

There was even an occasion where a new random crew member joined my ship and started messing about, wasting supplies and stuff. When we locked him in the brig he complained, so we told him that he was brigged for misbehaving but if he behaves we will let him out shortly and he will get a share of our treasure no matter what. He didn't stay though.

I am not really bothered by the brig system as it is, even though it can be abused a bit. A means of kicking someone might be open to more abuse but at the same time it could also be put to good use to kick a random to make space for a team mate who is joining.

It's a bit of a "stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea" situation.

  • If ye afk more than 10 minutes ye get kicked!

  • It wouldn't be the first game to do that.

I know that most EA games in particular, you can setup a simple macro and AFK to farm loot boxes. I did that using my arcade fightstick in Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare by having it automatically press X on the PS3 version of the game.

  • I do not think it will happen like that. They probably have a "kick" feature for completely afk players like some comments say :)
The option to practically vote to kick someone out....hmm could be used badly when 2 guy join a random 3 or 4 galleon and they get the treasure chests and instantly before cashing them in they kick the other 1/2 out (yes you CAN get 2 people on the brig at the same time, watched it happen on youtube) and only the 2 remaining people would get the loot :( So a nogo for that ;)

And please!!! This is NOT the first afk winning game! BDO and getting gold is almost completely based on afk fishing or horse lvling :( :/ they even do events to promote such acts (stay 5 hours per day on to get look whatever) :/ and then they are like "look so many players online we are such a good game" :P

  • That's actually not true... In beta if you sit idle to long it's logs you off the game.
