How can I make an Alt account?

  • Coming from an MMO background where I would have 5 or 6 alt characters to choose from and play for different reasons, is it possible to do this in SOT?

My idea is to make a 2nd Microsoft/Xbox acct (playing only on PC btw). Would this allow me to switch between the pirate I want to play as if I just switch my logins when I start the game?

I want to have 1 serious pirate - for solo/sloop play, and another pirate for crazy-fun group play.

  • @nixxxd96 Ahoy there!

Your plan is the only way to achieve this, separate Gamertags and just switch to them when logging into the game.

There is a switch account option on the main splash screen.

    Good luck!

  • @musicmee Wow, thanks for the super fast response. If I use this method will I have to buy more than 1 copy of the game?

  • @nixxxd96 depends if you buy disk or download.
On pc you will need to buy more games.

  • @nixxxd96 Nope! You may need to setup Xbox game sharing but I believe you should just be able to share the game without setting all that up. But that is a nice backup option if it doesn't work straight away.

  • @musicmee He's PC playing not 100% if PC has a feature like My home console. Does PC have feature like If so I would love to know.

  • Although, I don't really see the point of changing characters in SoT unlike in mmos. (Well, unless you'd like to roll between two different characters like a female and a male one :D)

Since in mmo's the characters will actually have different stats/classes so you can do different things with them.

In SoT, everything is equal. The cosmetics you buy can be switched/fixed at a moments notice. It'd be like making an entire new character instead of just respeccing the one you got.

I don't mean to hate on your idea :D Just hopefully clearing things up so you don't end up buying the game twice. If you had another interesting reason for wanting two characters I'd be curious to know

  • @musicmee
Wait.. I'll be able to play on PC with a different account?

  • why would you want to do that ?
makes no sense regarding Sea of Thieves ...

  • @nunoazuldimeter I very much believe so... yes... as long as both accounts have Gamertags associated with them.

  • @nunoazuldimeter open beta though.. it was free. You might run into a problem once it launches. Xbox home feature you could do this but on PC not sure

  • @sir-lancia Yes, exactly this! I want 1 male and 1 female pirate, each will have different personalities and will play with friends of like mind.

Some of my friends are very serious and rushing to Pirate Legend.

Some only want to have crazy adventures and throw vomit everywhere!

  • @stonedscallywag
Yep, that was my experience at the time. I've been able to play with a different account, but thought it was because of the open beta.. I'm not much into the PC gaming so I actually don't know how that works there.
On Xbox I know I'm able to play with other account if I left my main account signed in.

  • @nunoazuldimeter I'm going to give this a go with Halo Wars 2 inform you in a second :)

  • @nixxxd96 I see :D if it's important to you I wish you the best fun you can have m8ie!!

I'm usually the guy in the group who runs around with ugly a*s clothes because they have better stats :D
I'd just use 1 character to play with both groups hahah xD Cool to see people are planning to roleplay seriously as well

I agree 100%. It's just not worth it. One day you can just play serious and one day you can just fool around with your friends, there are no restrictions, you can play in different ways with the same account as long as you respect the pirate code.
I would never use a second account because I want to progress and become a pirate legend as soon as possible and using a second account would slow me down a lot.

  • @Nixxxd96 and @NunoAzuldimeter I have tested two ways so far both have been successful, I'm going to do a couple more tests.

I'll be doing test with account not in the Family just for testing sake but for you guys it works, If you wish to have Alts. "This was tested on Halo Wars 2, Which I own from gamepass. So two birds with one stone"

"Way 1 has both accounts signed in"
    "Works"

    1. {Make a new account/Add the account to your Microsoft Family on your pc by going to "Settings/Accounts/Family & other people/Add family member" This will allow you to play the game on a Alt account on Windows 10 pcs.}

"Way 2 is the same however tested with the account that owns the game signed out"
    "Works"
    2.{Make a new account/Add the account to your Microsoft Family on your pc by going to "Settings/Accounts/Family & other people/Add family member" This will allow you to play the game on a Alt account on Windows 10 pcs.}

  • @pigeonman-beam
    Ohhh thank you!!! 😊
    Appreciate your time doing this.

  • @nunoazuldimeter No problem man it's been a question that I also been wondering for sometime. Good to know they have feature like this.

  • @pigeonman-beam Thanks a lot for testing this out! I'm so happy I only have to buy the game once. If I had to pay twice it would have been a deal breaker for me to create that 2nd alt account.

  • I would never use a second account because I want to progress and become a pirate legend as soon as possible and using a second account would slow me down a lot.

Aahh, yes but what be better than 2 pirate legends!! lol I have a lot of time on my hands.

  • @nixxxd96 No problem glad I can help you. This is great Feature for RPers, and people who want multi-pirates.

    Onside note :
{It looks like you don't need the "This the PC I want my account to have Offline permissions on" so the last test I need to do is remove the account from the family and see if it works} But ill keep that to myself what you looking for is Solved have fun and enjoy the game. "If it doesn't work for you hit me up on Xbox with message, I might be able to help."

Are you always as eager to hugging and kissing pirates as you seem to be, 'Sir' Captain Lancia? ;D

  • @mythicalfable Always!! :D

    Good to hear. ;)
