Can the Xbox One X run SoT @60 fps | 1080p?

    Hello!

    I have tried to find information about this here on the forum and on the web, but I have not found anything. Therefore, I try to create an entry.

    For a long time I have considered building a new PC, but have found that this will be too expensive to play this game. My choice then stands between an xbox one s and one one x. I know that one / s should be able to run the game in "stable" 30 fps, but what does one x do? I have a 1080p full HD TV that does not support 4K. I also plan to play Far Cry 5 and RDR 2.

    Gaming PC (conected to TV) will cost me around 800+ $ to be able to run at stable 60+ fps.

    Xbox One S will cost me around 200$ and the One X will cost around 400-450$. I live in Norway so I have chosen to use dollar $ as currency to show the calculation.

    Game + membership comes as well.

    As far as i know, the game will run on the Xbox X in 4k @30fps, no matter which tv/monitor you have, the game will render in 4k on the X and will get downsampled if you have a tv who does not Support 4k.
    If you want 60 fps, buy the pc version.

    @hbl1234 Id take 1080 at 60fps over 4k at 30 anyday. Some games on xbox one X i know do have an option between the 2. Maybe a @Deckhands can help you out?

    @uvg-reign I totaly agree with you, that's why i would like the X version. Half the price of a decent computer to, even dough its the double price of an S version.

    If you want 60 fps, buy the pc version.

    Play anywhere. Buy digital and own it for both. See which one you prefer.

    @hbl1234 That's a great question. Like many people I'd prefer 1080p @ 60fps over 4k @ 30.

    I'm sure it can run it at 1080/60. I really wish they'd give us this option. I love the performance mode option. People on Win10 are doing this, why can't Xbox One X owners? You can't claim due to parity with regular Xbox One when the game is crossplay with high end PCs.

    I think people overwhelmingly prefer 1080/60 to 4k/30.

    Yes please. The game is fantastic. The only wish I have left is a 1080p 60 fps option. Please Rare, make it happen on the X!

    I have had both the Xbox One S and currently have the Xbox One X. Unless you have a 4k TV or plan on getting one in the future, the X is a waste of money.

    Also, I don't know why people get so hung up on frame rates. As long as it's consistently 30 fps or 60fps and those rates don't drop, you can't really tell the difference. You PC nerds get hung up on numbers too much.

    Please Rare give us a choice on the X! Third party games do like the witcher 3, rise of the tomb raider and monster hunter world for example! If you can’t give us 60fps although I’m sure you could at least give us a boost in visuals. Better shadows, greater draw distances running at 1080 or 1440p.

    It’ll be a let down if we just get the same game as base Xbox one but running at 4K.

    @jkodis well that’s not the case is it. Monster hunter world runs poorly on the base Xbox one for example. It’s not even 1080p but on my X I have it running at a higher resolution downsampled to 1080 and have better draw distances and higher frame rates.

    It’s only a waste of times if it just gives us 4K and nothing else. But even then a downsampled 4K image still looks better on our 1080p TVs than a native one does. Oh and we get faster load times too. Keep hating though 👍

    Holy pepples this is completely false. Please people, I'm not in c********k at all but there is a huuuuge difference between 30 and 60 fps. It is not only smoother but your reaction time is faster and input lag reduced by a biiig margin. Don't listen to this guy.

    But big flashy words like 4k sell better than 1080@60fps. Would be awesome if devs concentrate more on that. That's why i really never had any consoles, apart from Nintendos.

    I think people get “hung up” on framerates because in terms of 30 vs 60, the latter is for me and many others a hugely improved experience.

    Any day of the week I’ll drop details in order to make sure a game never dips below 60. I find the difference extremely noticeable.

    @hudson-rl I'm not hating. Just saying there isn't really a huge noticeable difference between the S and the X unless you have a 4k TV. But, I'm pretty mellow, so I don't get all obsessive over a few seconds of loading times and a few extra particles of draw distances and such things.

I'm just going to guess that the developers of games usually have more of an understanding of their game's capabilities more than the players. Perhaps they chose to go with 30fps because of the massive amount of pixels and details in the ever moving motion of the ocean. The environment of this game is in constant motion. It was probably a good choice to go with a lower frame rate to insure smoother gameplay.

    Constant motion means higher framerate is smoother. Stop derailing the thread.

    @uvg-reign Only if the Xbox could handle it. Otherwise it's too much to process and your precious 60fps would drop to 45fps and then it would be noticeably choppy. Foo. That's all Im saying, is that a constant 30fps is no big deal as long as it stays at 30fps. Pretty sure the devs went that way for a reason. Don't lecture me, why don't you explain to them why they made their game a sucky 30fps and how you think you know more than they do.

    Do you honestly think that this isn’t something most people can see at a glance?

    And what’s with the eye rolling attitude? I’ve expressed a preference for frame rate over visuals, and tried to answer a question you posed. For somebody who self-identifies as “mellow” you sure seem a little highly strung over this issue.

    Well, fair enough. I think it's exceptionally easy to spot and becomes even clearer when you're playing games. I guess this is why I play on PC, so I have the option.

    For reference, though - some people can spot individual frames up into the hundreds, so there is clearly a sensitivity to it.

    @jkodis You are the first person to use the word "disappointing" in this thread; people are simply stating preferences.

    Whether you work in film or not makes very little difference to my preference for high frame rates in games.

    You’re the one lecturing everyone else. That’s what this whole thread, to see if it can/be an option, like other games on the Xbox 1x which does have the option. Its not a thread whether people can see the difference between 30 and 60fps

    I played the beta in native 4k on the X on a 4k OLED and it looks and feels amazing!

    @hbl1234 A pc that can run SoT at 1080p with a stable 60fps shouldn't cost you $800 if you shop around and look for the best prices. Especially if you don't care about a monitor for a while. Plus you can get Far Cry 5 as a bonus with quite a few graphics cards right now. Look around at stores like Newegg, Tiger Direct, Amazon, Craigslist if they have it there, Ebay. Basically look every where you can and make sure you're getting the lowest price for the good stuff. You should be able to knock that price down to between $500-600. That's more than the Xbox X but you'll most likely get Far Cry 5 included.

    @therealdadbeard You obviously don't know as much as you think you know. What you don't get is that if the xbox can't hold a steady 60fps when a lot is going on in the game, that 60 drops to 45fps, it will be noticeably choppy. I'm assuming that's why they went with 30fps, to insure that no matter how much is going on in the game, the frame rate will be consistent. So yes, a steady 30fps will look smoother than a game running at 60fps that sometimes drops from 60. IF the xbox could run the game at a steady 60fps, then of course that would look smoother. Again though, I'm pretty sure the developers know more about the Xbox's capabilities and how their game runs on it than you do, so there must be a reason they chose 30fps.
