Merchant Alliance Ressources Crates exploits

    Inb4 : This thread isn't about animal cages exploit.

    So, some Merchant Alliance voyages will require to deliver bananas/planks/cannonballs crates.

    I fear those crates might be used to boost how much ressources we will be able to stockpile on our ships.

    Ressources management is a big part of what make a crew better than another, when a crew is running out of it, it's the beggining of its end in a naval battle.

    With those crates, we could have a lot more ressources than planned imo.

    Even more, on a galleon, we will be able to have cannonballs at our disposal directly on the main deck, so, no need anymore to go bellow to reload on cannonballs.

    Thoughts ?

    I was thinking the same thing... it's a pretty big issue IMO. I'll always plan to have a cannonball crate on deck next to the cannons... same for bananas.

    Good point. Then the crew could just siphon off there below deck resorces to replenish the crates after a battle etc.
    Whilst I’m on this thread I have to ask, what button do you press (on pc) to get an animal in the crate you’re holding. I only did one merchant quest and it wanted chickens. They were moving that quickly I couldn’t read the prompt telling me which button to press. Ended up completing the quest by button mashing whenever I got close to a chicken.

    Those crates ARE for expanding your ships resources. They don't have to be sold. The banana crate is especially useful when doing skellie forts!
    It's not an exploit, it's a choice.....sell them for a few 100g or save them for extra resources.

    I get the cannon balls but you really shouldn’t need over 100 bananas 😂😂😂😂 not trying to make fun of you but if you need to eat 100 bananas, something is wrong there.

    imo it is balanced because they are rare and you can lose them.

    See these crates as a positive, rather than a negative that people will abuse.
    More bananas, planks or cannonballs on your ship, over the amount your stock barrels can hold, is a huge benefit.
    Collecting 50 extra bananas for your crew before you raid a fort is good planning & preparation. Having 50 extra planks and/ or cannonballs to leverage a win over an enemy galleon in a fight on the high seas means that your management of resources has paid off!
    Want to be a social player- barter/ exchange your stock for whatever you need from other ships/ crews...
    The crates have huge possibilities linked to them. I really hope that we see more types of crates as time goes by...

    Not over 100. And there is also a lot of barrels of bananas at the fort. But hey, not saying you are wrong or anything. I just never imagined eating 100 bananas

    Would be great, especially with the local voice chat in game to cross paths with a ship and exchange stock... you have extra chests that you don't need the rep for (might be doing fetch quests for merchant's guild)? Why not swap for a few creates or even a cage with the red speckled hen you need?

    There is so much yet that this game can unlock come full release that we simply can't yet foresee!

    Ok now everyone talking about the possible trade/barter aspect of the crates has me rethinking my previous statement. Hmmm

    @sillycolt302271 if you have them available all the time you wouldn't have to play like a p***y in the fort and you will be able to beat it much faster. Also teams of 4 will consume them really fast.

    Wow that came out of the blue. I guess try not getting hit that much or something . Either way there isn’t a need for exploiting a crate for bananas that shouldn’t be needed. I think needing that many bananas kind of makes you play as what you mentioned anyways.

    How is this an exploit and not considered being smart and resourceful?

    Considering everyone can find these crates off voyage, everyone has as much opportunity to continue to stock resources. I'm not sure this is an issue.

    @aenima123 I believe this is an intended mechanic. Actually, my group found a random cannonball crate on an island and stole a banana crate from another crew. We kept the crates on our main deck for easy access. But these items are also easily stolen/thrown overboard by boarding enemies.

    I too believe its great to have those, some people are saying that ships are disposable... having more resources on it makes them more valuable.

    Not only you will have to guard chests but resources as well.
    Sometimes 100cannonballs is more valuable than a chest.

    And hoarding is not for everyone anyhow. But as far as game balance goes... currently you can have 300cannonballs on a galleon(having just the restocked) vs a galleon with no cannonballs(having wasted them all)... so no issue there

    Extending this point, it's very likely that ships will be nowhere near as disposable in the full game. Rare likely excluded any costs, be it time, gold, whatever, to retrieve one's ship due to the time constraints of the beta. While this is speculative, it is a possibility.

    Having a crate of more stuff will absolutely be invaluable to keep one afloat.

    The more i read the more i like, this isn't a problem it's a benifit like the boom barrels, it's a resource that has more value on the ship than sold to a merchant.

    Yeah, i shouldn't have used the word "exploit", it's not an exploit per se.

    What i meant is limited ressources is imo a good thing when it comes to naval battles, since a battle between two experimented crew can last for very long, too long i should say.

    There is some benefits coming with those portable ressources crates, i agree, but i fear it's going to be to the detriment of naval battles.

    The only way to sink a ship is to run a ship out of resources or prevent them from repairing their ship.

    I mean... no.

    You can board and kill them, you can powder keg their ship, you can put more holes in than they can patch and continue hitting potentially just patched spots, you can fire at crew on deck killing them preventing all hands patching which would be devastating if everyone else were hitting their shots.

    I don't see how the having to prevent is an issue.

    Good lord I hope not!
    It's a pain as it is re-spawning across the map, waiting for the rest of your 4 man crew to get back to you - or worse trying to remember where you were when you sank so that you can retrieve those 4 chests you abandoned on a random rock (true story from two weeks ago...)!

    Not to mention that you lose all your stock of cannonballs, bananas and planks! That in itself can be traumatic if you have spent an age restocking before sinking.

    Yes, that's one method I meant by preventing them from repairing their ship.

    And they can easily repair it if you can't prevent them from repairing it.

    There's a limit to the amount of holes on a ship. Again, if they have the planks, they can out-repair the damage. Have you ever seen someone chill out in blood water? It's very possible with enough resources.

    That's the issue with ship combat in general in SoT. If they have infinite resources and you have no method of stopping the crew, they can stay afloat forever. Crates like this exacerbate that issue.
