I really want to buy and play this game BUT!

  • Overall i like this game BUT i have a huge problem with the fact, that other players can camp at the outpost areas. Heres an example:
I traveld around for like a hour and was collecting chests. When I wanted to bring the chests to the outpost, there was a Gallion already waiting for me.
I saw this and I was sailing to an other Outpost area but they followed. I tried to sell my chests but i didnt have enough time so they destroyed my ship and took 6 of 7 chests! So all the work and time for nothing! I traveled alone and they were 3. Fun Game! I dont want to spend 70 Euros for experiences like this. Its super annoying they can fight at the outpost area and can wait for other players to steal their chests. I will buy this game if this is fixed.

  • Yeah admittedly sailing solo is a pretty big problem and easy pickens. You have to really keep an eye out for other ships and stay as far away as possible, but that's kinda tricky considering you're also sailing, controlling the sails, everything as well. I sailed by several ships alone earlier and no one bothered me, but I think I just got lucky.

  • If you’re on a sloop and looking to hand in loot, my suggestion would be to hand in at Golden Sands/sanctuary outpost or Daggertooth/ Galleons grave. That way if you Sea a ship at one of them you can easily divert to the other as they are relatively close. If I’m on a sloop I’m always weary of going to an outpost that has a ship docked. So I just redirect to the other.

  • I had the same problem BUT I used the spyglass to look out for ships and sailed around the outpost in a save distance to really rule out the option of another crew on the island....
to be honest I had to sail for an hour to find an outpost which was not camped or had another crew on but getting 4000 gold was totally worth sailing the extra way :D

I only sail alone currently and it is certainly more difficult but also the thrill is more fun/heartbeating cause you ARE in disadvantage sailing alone :D

  • Missed the bit where you said the Galleon chased you, try to avoid getting close to the outpost. Scout it from a distance. Likelihood is you’ll see a docked Galleon before they see you. So can covertly divert. Admittedly it’s not always that straight forward. But with the sloop you have to be extra careful.

  • Well I am now 100% sure I won't be buying it, I just don't think it's worth the money, maybe one for the sales and then only at 50% or more off.

  • @r-y-u-z-a-ik-ii while this is your story, could part of the issue be that you collected 7 chests vs just turning them in asap? Mitigate the loss by doing this.

I still have yet to be camped. There ust be something. Maybe they had just turned stuff in and happened to see you. I would doubt it was camping as it just takes too long.

  • @davejc64 There's always Game Pass if you don't want to part with your money, the great thing is everyone has had a chance to try the game for free during the Beta tests and they can make an informed decision :)

Sorry to hear that but you should know there are ways to minimize such risks. Never anchor at land when you're being chased with loot. What I would've done is once I got to the other outpost, I'd jump overboard with a treasure, sell it, take the mermaid back to the ship and repeat at some other outpost or circle back to go back to the same outpost. Don't lower the anchor or raise the sails. Your ship will still be sailing without you at the helm.

Note you should have all treasures near you before trying this and make sure your boats trajectory is not towards shore or rocks before jumping overboard. If they can't catch up with your boat and the rest of your loot, you have nothing to fear.

I agree the that in this case the Alpha and Beta tests have saved me wasting money.

  • @r-y-u-z-a-ik-ii Pirates will be pirates! Lol
Sailing solo is probably the trickiest way to play SoT. You have to do everything. Keep an eye out for ships, sail the ship, trim the sails, bail out in a storm or when hit my skeleton fire, solve your riddles, dig for treasure, catch your wildlife and then deliver it all safely to an outpost! On your own! Means you have to play a bit more savvy. Maybe 7 chests was too many to have safely aboard ship. I know when I sail solo I only ever have a couple before handing them in. Usually on my way to another quest. If there’s a ship anywhere near an outpost I always divert. Yes it’s an imbuggerance but worth it if it means cashing in cleanly.
A sloop can outsail a Galleon. Just takes practice. Sometimes I don’t quest at all, I just sail. Getting to know the map and the places you can use to your advantage (the unmarked reefs are brilliant for luring galleons in to while you make your escape.) is a must.
Don’t give up me matey just because this one voyage ended with nothing. Learn from it. It might be the difference next time from you getting away and cashing in All your chests. And remember each voyage you do will be different.
Don’t let one voyage put you off this amazing game. Oh...... and you could always crew up with other pirates.

  • @davejc64
Why not try joining a 4 man crew? More often then not you meet some good people and if the crew is half way competent, you greatly reduce your chances of being sunk/griefed/trolled.

  • @katttruewalker Is there an alternative to the Game Pass for PC players? Thanks in advance.

  • @r-y-u-z-a-ik-ii
I bet the amount of campers will decrease at full release. Beta tests all ways have trolls

  • @putricidio I don't think there is, but if you already own an Xbox then you are able to use any Play Anywhere games on your PC.

Can I use Xbox Game Pass on my Windows 10 PC?
Xbox Game Pass can only be used on Xbox One consoles.

    Xbox Game Pass FAQ

  • I decided to cancel my pre-order, I'll wait out release and pick up the game at a discount.

Sometimes you just want to play the game layed back.
I wanted to try out the skeleton forts today, and instead ended up being chased 3 times.
I can imagine some people have been playing the current Beta for hours on end, but for me those 2 hours were my only playtime this weekend.

And the fact that I am allowed or disallowed to play how I like to by someone other than me is just unacceptable. This will only get worse during release as more and more people will get bored of the tedious grind.

I hope this won't be an issue for most people, but I'll wait and see.

  • @katttruewalker Thanks for the reply, but it'snt my case, it's a pity that there is only this option for Xbox players.

For me it's not really about the griefing trolling etc, I just think the game ain't worth £50, as I said when it's reduced by 50% or more I might consider buying it, until then I pass on it.

  • Right !
The Outpost should be a safe areas !

  • @katttruewalker My understanding is you can still get games pass without a console and play Sea of Thieves on PC because it is play anywhere.

I doubt they were camping, they either just finished turning in and saw you or they just joined and saw you

    camping isn't fun

    Xbox Game Pass FAQ

Thanks, but... actually your answer says "yes you can run Play Anywhere games" and "no your can't unless you have an Xbox", so which it is? Because what I've seen until now is that there's a way to redeem codes on microsoft.com and I'm waiting for the 20th to redeem the 14 free days I had with the controller.

As usual, rather than learn from your experience youre another one whos just going to throw their arms in the air.

  • Don't hord 6/7 chests if you are solo. I doubt people are camping Outposts, they probably spawned there or were dropping stuff off. Then they saw your sails...

  • @r-y-u-z-a-ik-ii
I never ever have more than 2 or 3 chests on board EVER.
Makes it easy for me to run, jump off and turn in.
Unfortunately you put yourself in that position by having 6 or 7 chests on board.
Keep less chest and problems solved.

  • @eph1zul
Its not an issue for 99% of people but usually happy people dont come to forums to vent.
This is the most laid back ez to play fps ive ever seen and i for once actually enjoy a fps. Hopefully when game goes on sale youll try again, learn the rope, get better and see how ez and gunSoT can be.

  • @misterdoomed Keep that optimism, you'll need it.

  • That's the pirate's life, You get chests and there are pirates to pillage you and take thee loot's, Try to get like 3-4 chests then turn in them, Think about it like games such as pubg. You spent so much time and in the end, you died and lost then you do it all over again.

More loot you have on your ship=more risk.

  • The game is already so easy to get loot and get rich .. so considering that fact i thing a really open world gaming and not safe area is getting the game harder and at the same time more interesting

  • @theunknownd Loot really isn't the point, gold will be useless anyway.

There are people who don't want to fight on every turn. That doesn't mean we don't like it, but more that we do like doing other things aswell. And if your planning is getting hindered constantly then why bother playing.

  • sea of THIEVES!!!!!! give your head a shake, and adjust your strategy accordingly. NOOB

  • @thevividdreamer Nice argument... Also insults work great to prove you're right.

  • Playing solo you really need to be careful and treat everything as a threat. If I see a ship in an outpost I will stop and wait or look for another outpost. Search tips for solo sailing in the forum, very helpful advices.

Never hoard chests, it's better to sell them one by one, at most two.

  • @thevividdreamer I could provide a sound argument but there's no point because you'll whine about it anyways

  • I have also cancelled. Last I checked, outposts were safe zone even in times of pirates. You didn't have ships waiting around port cities waiting to attack other ships. There would be no-fire zones, etc. People here clearly don't know their History or fell asleep in college.
