Like I said, I play both PvE and PvP and do not want it removed.
But you have to see that the balance just isn't there. People who come to PvP have nothing holding them back, there is nothing punishing them. Even if they die and get sunk, they can sail back and try again(Whilst doing what they set out to do PvP).
PvE players get pulled away from what they are doing, and on top of that are very likely going to get punished for it(losing their treasure). Because lets be frank, people who aim for PvP will more often then not be better at it.
Well said, this is the key weak spot in Rare's vision. Those that keep pointing to the Pirate Code don't seem to realize that it isn't enforceable and therefor will be ignored. Even worse I suppose is that some players will hold it in high regard while others ignore it. Players that wish to focus on PvP have a distinct advantage over those that are less aggressive or PvE oriented. It is not a balanced system. Favoring any play style in a game design is not a successful business strategy, it gets old real fast and players vote with their feet so to speak.
