Push to talk on controllers

  • I am using the Sea of Thieves Xbox One controller on my PC but there is no option that I can see to set a Push to Talk button on the controller using the in game menus. I can see the one for keyboard/mouse (which I've customised) but nothing for controllers.

Is this something that can be added?

Thanks - keep up the good work!

  • Do you not use a headset via the Xbox controller? these tend to have a mute Mic option which you can use on the adapter...

  • @its-s****. Nope, I have a fixed desktop mic :(

  • @its-s****. Many mics I come across dont have the inline mute anymore and im not 100% the adapter works on the new style controllers...If they do no one buys them, at least people I know dont. It would be very simple to implicate such a feature for ingame, the shoulder buttons arent being used for anything and would be ideal

  • @aprovoked-mango Shoulder buttons open up the two radial menus.... I was hoping to bind Push to Talk to either left or right on the Dpad :)

  • @denifia LOL!" They actually do, no idea why I was thinking they dont do anything...Im sure a PTC can be mapped somewhere at preference, certainly a decent feature to have

  • I really want to bring this functionality to the controller rebinding screen too! I don't think it will happen before launch but know that it is on our roadmap.

  • @teddy-25 Awesome, thanks! I know this wont be effecting the majority but there will be people that would appreciate it.

Thanks again for letting us know its on the cards.

  • I'm confused as to why it says I don't have a mic when I'm using a Turtle Beach headset on my Xbox One that has a mic.

My turtle beaches work great... May be a glitch...

  • @denifia oh for the love of GOLD please add this feature, i was playing with a guy earlier and his mic was making so much noise constantly T.T

  • A pretty cool addition that has gone in, which should be in the next build you play, is that all the items available to players as keyboard hotkeys are now available as unbound controller items for you to bind as you see fit.
This is all part of our desire for crossplay to be as balanced as possible, and I most definitely recommend adding "Banana" to left on the DPad, it's a life-saver - literally!

As i understand this is a PC feature. Leading to my question:

Will Xbox (Console) players be able to bind specific functions to their D-Pad, as well, such as Left D-Pad to Bananas? I would give anything to quick swap between my Compass and Spyglass, personally.

  • Odd, my Turtle Beach XO One headset works great. Granted a bit pricey at $60 US and the only complaint I have is that it drains the controller batteries quickly. I'd say it cuts my battery life in half, but rechargeable batteries makes this little more than an annoyance.
I'd love to have push to talk as an option on controllers for sure, would help in those sneaky sneaky situations. Although, my headset has an adapter (which came with it) for the controller that houses buttons for game volume, chat volume, and a mute button which is what I use in place of a dedicated push to talk bind on the actual controller.

  • I have the Turtle beaches XO also, Battery life is reduced, but I have a second set of battery packs within range to swap at anytime. Had this headset years now, no issues and the sound quality is on point, Can hear other players characters breathe.

  • @teddy-25 This is good news! Im on pc and use a controller when i play. I just got a new controller and it comes with a mic button on the bottom right of the right thumbstick and was wondering if it would be compatible in the future? The Dpad also has volume control as well built in if you "hold" the Extra button. alt text

  • @denifia Use a program like xpadder to set your push to talk key to the xbox controller. I have and it works perfectly.
