I will not be purchasing SOT.

  • The brig system and the way others are abusing it, is awful. I have had maybe 3 or 4 positive voyages out of like 30. I overheard one guy, randomly propose to the crew to lock me away, because its fun to do. I had a mic, i was in their party chat. Perhaps he wasnt paying attention, so i ask him why do people keep doing that. He told me because its fun, its fun to lock people away because we can. They basically said they like torturing people until they leave the game, just for giggles. Grown men, acting like school yard bullies. Will i buy this game, no. Do i want to play on a scoop, no, and any other sorry excuse you have for how this community is acting, is lame and i dont buy it. The developers arent listening and I suspect this game will probably trend for a good month and then plummet and no one will be talking about it anymore.

  • @devilcorpsdoc this happens all the time. Had a group just today do it to me and then started saying they would "report" me because I wasn't leaving after being locked in the brig. The way I see it, you get a group of people like that, and you can troll em by taking the 4th slot and reaping all their rewards.

  • @snuggies-n-guns I wish i had the time to waste doing that. This game is barely fun without this nonsense and with it, it makes it much worse.

  • Yup the brig system is the stupidest thing ive ever purposely seen put into a game.
No matter what reasons people have good or not its going to be abused 99% of the time.
Almost every streamer ive watched who does a random 4 player team is briged at some point for some reason.
Its like they built in thier own trolling device because they know people are so understanding.

  • @devilcorpsdoc Seems like this every testing session starting with Beta. the level of toxicity, trolling, and griefing continues to climb at a steady rate. Sad, but true.

  • @devilcorpsdoc I'm sorry you had a such a bad time, I suggest maybe playing with some friends or at least go into the game with a full group. It's a challenge for people to trust randoms, and typically when a random can join us it's when we had a crew of 4 and someone disconnected.

We now instantly brig people who join us because only about 3 or 4 people out of 30 only wanted to grief us. Drop gunpowder barrels on us, drop the anchor, sail away with the ship while we are getting treasure or unloading.

So yeah, sorry you had a bad experience. Really, I am. I think that there are ways to avoid this from happening again, and hopefully rare will rework the brig and party system to prevent abuse on both sides.

  • @shisizle Its not my loss, its Rare's loss and hopefully, they wake up about it and do something about it.

  • @scheefinator For what? Using the game mechanics? LOL

  • @scheefinator Ya, that sounds like they are using the mechanics as intended. Were the exploiting the game? No. Voting to put someone in the brig for no reason is completely valid. Don't like it? Leave and rejoin?

  • @devilcorpsdoc You know what will help that come game launch? Find a good crew to roll with (maybe in the forums). Whenever I join a random crew and if they are wasting time or being trolls I just leave. You'll find a good group eventually. Shouldn't be a reason not to play this game.

  • @devilcorpsdoc I am sorry you had that bad experience.
There is a thread with which they try to find a feasible solution:

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/28975/brig-discussion-suggestions-on-how-to-change-the-brig

There are also discord groups (communities) where you should be able to find good players to play with.

Also, here in the forums, Lizalaroo always creates a thread to find a crew.
    https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/31194/looking-for-crew-during-scale-test-look-no-further

This is not a solution, I know, but it is an alternative to random matchmaking.

  • @devilcorpsdoc No offense, but you gotta get over yourself youre crying because someones abusing a mechanic in a game which everyone has done in any game ever made, in this case however theres a huge positive to their trolling. You can just put down the controller (Xbox) or Alt Tab (PC) and go do something else while they do their voyages and gain free XP + Gold. No-one is forcing you to buy the game, And I don't think it matters in my voyages that you aren't there. I've had this plenty of times and gotten a wealthy amount of gold from it. Does it suck? Yes. Is it there for a reason? YES. It's like you're threatening your mother to not do you're chores because you didn't get the chocolate bar you wanted, and in the same case she doesn't give you dinner, just like Rare doesn't have to give your game, their making their own game.

  • @scheefinator You have to ask yourself sometimes, is it worth it? As of now, no its not, so maybe to you, its my loss but from my perceptive. Its not, because I play games to have fun, not have a miserable time.

  • @capn-multi Thats ridiculous but thanks for chiming in.

  • @el-espectro-0 My solution, not wasting my time or money on this game. Easy decision.

  • @scheefinator Then they need it so we can kick people from the ship, lock parties if a friend DCs and need to reconnect. But until then, into the brig people go until they leave.

I have zero problem with what they did. Don't like it? Leave.

  • I've sailed the seven seas and not once been put in the brig. Ahhh me matey don't let the trolls put your hopes a drift. Continue to play and your will soon be a captain just like me. For now i can give you a job sweeping my ship decks. How about that my fella pirate companion??

  • @dj-birdman86 Im over it. While this game has some shining moments, those experiences, ruined it for me. I dont see this game, being very popular for long. Trolls will get bored of what it has to offer and spend their time, ruining other peoples day.

  • I tried joining a random crew in the alpha. A mistake i've never made again.

I do wonder if anyone on the development team had ever played any online games before making sea of thieves.

  • @dirtyden89 Thats good mate but there is a thing called the probability principle. Give it time.

  • @n8cst You seem like a non toxic person.

  • The Brig will be fixed.

There's no way they'll leave it in if it's more detrimental than it is beneficial.

We now have 3-man Galleons for those that want to sail as a three, so Brigging a randomer will happen less. People will also find people to Friend Request, meaning that would-be-Brigged people will play with friends more than they have done.

A lot of how things shake out at launch will shape the changes made. So don't be put off or put down by how things are in Scale/Beta. There's a lot more coming and a lot of open-minded people at the helm who want the best for the game and the community.

    It'll be okay. :)

  • @scheefinator I don't care about that either. You have an option to leave. You are opting to keep the torture going. I don't feel bad for you. You are a willing participant in it.

  • @devilcorpsdoc Not playing because others are jerks. L**O
Most aren't jerks so letting the small few hurt those precious feelings is really sad. How do you even live life?? Don't be so weak minded man. The game is best played with people you know. I'll be in game day one. /shrug

  • @jedi-jez Cheers. I sure hope you are right.

  • @scheefinator Yup.

  • @mackdi Why waste my time, dealing with jerks. I mean, that doesnt sound fun at all. To each their own.

  • @devilcorpsdoc

"Those meanies put me in the brig!"
    #MeToo

Bye dude. Next time just simply cancel your pre-order instead of trying to get some sort of white knight send off on the forums.

  • @n8cst I have an option to not purchase this game, this isnt costing me a thing, so its fine but not fine at the same time. Its shaping my opinion of what this game will be like on launch. Itll be 10x worse, once all the trolls and toxic players get a hold of it. This problem will only ballon is how i see it.

  • @n8cst You seem like a swell person.

  • @scheefinator This guy is clearing upset because hes more than likely guilty of said behavior.

  • @scheefinator said in I will not be purchasing SOT.:

    Let's make this VERY clear.

There is a very clear distinction between brigging someone to keep a 3rd slot open and brigging someone to torture, abuse, and laugh at them.

The group was doing the latter, which is against the Pirate Code.

You are 100% accurate. Unfortunately there is 0% chance rare can ever enforce some rules breach unless its all caught on tape, recorded, sent in and viewed and then the instigator will then have thier " valid " reasons. Its hard to enforce judgment call rules just ask the nfl lol.
The brig will be abused period until its removed. And everyone can justify thier own jackassery so even doing it cuz its fun will not be punished.
Like me and others have said , intil rare gives players options other than the brig its gonna be abused.
Sucks but thats gonna be how it goes.

  • Try duo sloop. You will hardly get trolls there.

But if you're dead set on playing galleon, sorry to hear about your experience.

  • @misterdoomed Thats my thoughts about it... how will they ever enforce such a thing without proof. I just think, itll negatively impact sales, streamer popularity and engagement. They are sinking their own ship with this and its crazy to me personally.
