How often do you sell your chests to the outpost ?

  • During the two last playing sessions, i noticed that most of the ships we sank countained no chest or maybe a couple if we were lucky.

So, it makes me think that most players sell their chests in between each voyage or at least, very frequently. What about you ?

Most annoying thing is when you start approaching a ship and it flees like hell to the nearest outpost only to sell 3 or 4 chests... Seriously ? You're going to flee the fight just to secure 3 chests ? Are you that desperate to buy your bilgerat hat skin ?

At some point, it was so frequent we wish there were a lot less outposts on the map.

  • Theres no benefit to stacking chests so whats the point?

  • Most we ever had on board was 13. Generally we would go to an Outpost after completing each Voyage.

  • Depends how I was playing... If solo I tried to make sure to never keep more than 3 chests. I did go over this a few times but offloaded as fast as I could.

Playing as part of a team... Well we offloaded when we were near an outpost. I think the most chests we had was 15

Saying that... If I got a chest of sorrows either solo or in a group we went straight to an outpost and offloaded that thing ASAP

  • @aenima123 Usually after a map/riddle has been solved. Sometimes unload 1-2, sometimes more.

    Not losing time.
The thrill to be under attack with a big cargo on your ship.

  • I usually do it about every 10-20 chests.

  • Most we had on a galleon was 50, but usually every 10 or so we made a trip to the outpost, mainly to buy new voyage.

But when on a sloop alone or not, after every voyage or when passing by but not keeping more than 5-6 onboard.

Yeah, same for us, chests of sorrow are too annoying to be dealed with during a fight.

  • @aenima123 The opposite can also be said inreply to your "Are you that desperate to buy..."
    as in,
Are you that desperate to kill?

The main thing to remember is:
Different players, different goals, SAME GAME.

  • @aenima123 I usually go in after the voyage so usually have about 5 or 6. Depends on what kind of chests I have too. If they were all castaway/seafarer I'd be more inclined not to return to the outpost.

But yah, I don't think it's 'desperation' to avoid being sank to turn in any amount of treasure haha. I'm a solo captain so I typically avoid battles as I'll likely be outnumbered. I think it's fine to hunt people down I do it myself sometimes when I have an empty ship, but should be no surprise that people don't want to die haha.

I can't conceive to play SoT just to dig up chests, it's fun at first but it gets old quick, to me, it's just a filler between two PvP encounter, an excuse to go from a place to another, the mean to have something on board to lose, or something to steal from other players, but just playing the game to dig up chests, cash in, buy a hat... Nope i can't conceive that to be fun after an hour.

  • On the galleon with my crew we carried 15-20 chests, when we got chests of sorrows before reaching our chest limit, we headed close to an outpost, than the chest of sorrow carrier jumped of board to cash them in and teleported back via mermaid on the ship, same time the galleon were moving on to the next chests. Turning in without the need of buying voyages would have been a wast of time.

Solo on a sloop I went to an outpost every 1-3 chests.

  • If I'm alone I usually wait until I have at least 15, but on a Galleon, we stay out until everyone's voyages are finished.

Oh I would have loved to have sunk that galleon, or at least come across its ship wreck 😄

15 chests on a solo sloop, that's balsy, where were you when we kept sinking galleon without a single one ?

  • @aenima123 Each to their own playstyle. I mix and match the PvE & PvP depending on what either myself or crew needs/feels like doing.
I'm sure come launch we will all have a lot more to do, so the PvPer in you will not be disappointed.

There have been very few crews that posed a real threat. Also, it's a waste of time to turn in frequently.

  • I rarely turn chests in the more time you spend sailing back and forth from island to outpost means less time spent digging up and finding chests which means less gold made for your time. the most chests/items(skulls,reclics) ive had on a galleon was just over 310 items total though i wouldn't recommend carrying around that much unless you've got a fleet for protection

  • @aenima123 I generally only go back and turn in when I encounter a chest of sorrow. The crying is just too annoying to deal with, to the point where I often wonder if it's even worth taking at all.

The most I had at one time during the scale test was 19 as a solo player.

  • @neverknowpt Until they add some feature where you get more gold for turning them in in bulk ;)

  • If I'm playing solo and need another voyage I turn them in right away (:

The most I had as a solo player was 8. I precision parked my Sloop inside an enclosed cove to hide it from other players, went exploring, 5-10 minutes later started hearing cannons, it was a NPC skeleton sinking my ship ): I was under the impression if your ship sank you lost everything so I went to bed :P

  • Anemia, I don't feel bad for you. You sound like a crook. Or back then, a pirate haha.
When I or we were out for gold we would sell right after the island. Just in case. And if we were out for blood, we go out empty and sink ships and circle looking for chests because I heard they float at the site for a few.

  • As a solo player 3 was a ton for me. I usually would go to the inhabited isles if I got 1-2 chests.

  • the most i ever turned in was like 5, but that was after a big island useally i finish a map explore the island for wood n stuff the proceed to the nearest outpost to cash

  • I usually seek for the next outpost after each voyage, depends on how paranoid I am about encountering other ships lol
But never more than 5 at once.

  • By the tone of your OP, I ain't tellin you nuthin.
It's subjective and a time vs risk issue.

  • I like to play safe, even if it consumes more time. I usually cash in the chests after leaving each island. Using the sloop of course.
Remember that fun is subjective, while some people find something fun, others don't and viceversa.

  • For me it's never less than 6-7 and the more the better! No point going back to an outpost if you don't need to and can do some proper guarding of the ship.

  • My crew usually returned our chests after every 2 voyages, if I was playing solo I would return them after every voyage to play it safe.

  • For me it's not by the number of chests, but rather the route of our journey. We'll make stops at an outpost only if it's on the way to another island that we have to go to. This could be anywhere from every other chest we get to 10-15 chests. Don't like wasting time :)

  • I offloaded chests when I had around 4 in the hold. Any more and I am just feeding thievery. My goal was to make it not worth the effort to try and sink me. Also, it takes me about 30 minutes to get 4 chests and that is about as much”lost time” that I can shrug off Without caring much.

  • We'll go turn in if it's on the way, or if we have some high-value chests. If we can plan our route such that an outpost is kind of on the way, we'll usually stop there, grab some supplies, have a look at what we can buy, etc. It's not so much a matter of being scared of other ships, but just that we like going to outposts. There's usually a lot of action happening at outposts, too.

  • Thats the beauty of it...some might run and some might stay and fight, best believe I aint running lol but I can completely understand if some people might run for 1 or 2 chests, every chest counts. Personally if you feel outmatched and you don't run, thats pretty stupid... because your only showing me how dumb you can be by staying to fight.

Me and my crew made a rule early thanks to a storm lol

We had 8 chests and was still goin strong until we suddenly and accidentally sailed into a storm...we were killed by 1 lightning bolt...1...killed me and my boy on a sloop...while we were dead our ship kept sailing, by the time we got back our ship crashed into a rock and sunk... we lost all the chests.

Now we head to an outpost when we have around 4-5 chests so in case of something going wrong its not such a loss.

The only time we head to an outpost immediately is if we have the Chest of Sorrows...

  • Sorry but if I'm being chased, the chests are dumped into the sea and the ship is abandoned. So have fun sinking an empty ship!
