Do you think that people playing on Xbox dont have a chance to win a fight with PC players ( aiming on PC can be more accurate and faster than on Xbox because of mouse )
PVP XBOX VS PC
i can assure you, from my experiance playing the Beta and pioneer and Alpha sessions, PC gamers are far more accurate, almost unfairly so, I personally think the two should be separated as it may drive away Xbox players who just get frustrated by the advantage. For example I played the Beta this weekend and came across a galleon of PC players, I was on a sloop with one other person... they didnt miss a shot, and they were quiet far away. in weapons combat they also one shot kill almost every time.
@fgfoot Here's what Ted Timmins had to say when asked this question -
Back to PC specifics - how did you balance the game for mouse and keyboard, and then for controllers?
We had a divide: an Xbox tech alpha and a PC tech alpha. One of the positives of that was we got to find out how Xbox players fare against skeletons and how PC players fare against skeletons. PC players had a 4.5% advantage over Xbox players, and we’re pretty happy with that. We’re not a twitch-based shooter, particularly when it comes to ship vs. ship combat there’s no real advantage to be had - actually, the analogue controller suits the way the cannon works better.
We can still improve, there’s always ways to improve. We’ve added a field-of-view slider and keyboard rebindings to both PC and Xbox, so they’re level. Then, on the PC side, we’ve had a little play around with when you fire the gun, what if it’s an actual projectile you’re firing off instead of an instant laser beam? That felt great, so we added it on Xbox too, and that became a new kind of gun combat - gun combat became about timing, not about accuracy. That’s another thing we did that had a tonal impact: the flintlock feels like a blunderbuss because it’s buckshot and not hitscan. You can make a change for cross-play reasons and it can have a positive impact on the wider game itself.
Never noticed a difference, Ive faced a a whole bunch of people who I now know are pc players and its never been impacting unless youre aim truly is something terrible. This aint a typical fps, its not twitchy, a quick sidestep can ruin anyones shot. Might be room for some improvement, as Kat linked above Rare will always be looking to improve.
@Sidious8888 I dont think suggesting an added peripheral is exactly the fairest of ways to compete - why should someone who is on xbox have to buy more equipment to stand a chance when the game is made to be cross platform. Not that really applies here as I dont think youre at a disadvantage with a controller.

I play on PC but use a controller so its probably fair
though i guess i could switch to a mouse t any time if i really wanted
@aprovoked-mango I speak for "help"those who feel this disadvantage, it's not the first thread that talks about it.
@wilkoom yup I bet way more kills when I use a mouse and keyboard but I hate mouse and keyboard so I just stick with controller even though I know I can get kills easier with a mouse. I guess we just will have to deal with it since Rare thinks playing with PC players is a good idea. I’d rather play with other players that I know are using a controller and not a mouse. I do thinks it’s a little unfair.
Pc players have it much easier. I once got on galleon full of xbox players and I was just killing them again and again alone, while my xbox crew hauled everything from their ship to ours. It took around 10-15 minutes where I killed them more than countless times while I didn't die once.
But I'm not complaining :)
@katttruewalker They're comparing skeletons, but in a PVP battle, it's a completely different story. I recommend they watch some streamers. I've seen PC players take out whole crews and it seems super easy. Just strafe jump around and shoot at the same time while poor Xbox folks will stand still and rotate trying to keep up with the impossibly fast target. From a PC player perspective, it looks easier than fighting the NPC skeletons (wait, unfair comparison, skeletons have better aim). Cross play NEEDS to be optional. On top of that Xbox One X doesn't get 60 fps :(.
@fgfoot I test constantly as part of the pioneer program on both my gaming pc and xbox. I have not seen a huge advantage on ether.
Jumping is of curse much easier on PC, Which I suggested a jump cool down before to counter pc jump spamming. But other then that no major difference.
I never understood why the topic of unfair comes up in gaming its almost impossible to be fair. I agree pc has it's perks no one can deny that. However how about all those players with a Elite controller, headsets to hear sounds a lot better than someone using a speaker, or people playing on gaming monitors over a 65in tv with a little bit of delay. Did I say that monitors have a built in cross hairs, or if you have Benq you have something called a black light equalizer. We wont ever have fair however we need to do are best to keep things as fair as we can without just making it simple and cutting out PC crossplay with Xbox.
@pigeonman-beam
Exaclty, and how are we ever going to balance ppl that play with like 5fps? They need more time to aim. You can never make it perfect for everyone. And I belive when I'm going to play this on my Laptop (I7 7gen Intel GPU 640) I'm going to have pretty low fps if I try to play on 1080p but thats what I have to pay, If I really want to play on my laptop.Atleast Xbox players have now a decent console, which can hold the fps playable but on PC sometimes things get a bit difficult if ppl dont want to upgrade. In the end, everyoby just needs to have a ton of fun :)
@destrolock13 Yeah in the end no matter what you do something will be unfair. Also don't worry rare has confirmed Sea of Thieves can run a potato so you are good to go! All that matters is everyone has fun don't let those little things get to you.
@canadianmuscle3
Seriously, you haven't noticed a difference?
I use both & can confirm there is a considerable difference!
The main issue is turn speed, a quick mouse movement & you can do a 180, have you tried the equivalent on the controller?? Even with controller sensitivity up to max, you do not turn anywhere near as fast or accurately as a mouse user.
Quicker turns = more time to aim, therefore pc players have a distinct advantage over xbox players in hand to hand PVP & gunfighting.I'm no good with a keyboard & mouse, but i still fair better than when i'm using the controller. On PC during fights, i now use the controller & mouse combined :)
I switched from PC to Xbox a while ago and I have also used a high end adapter to use mouse and keyboard on the console. I can see the advantages in shooter games where you need to kill someone half a mile away peeking out of a window. I played Rainbow Six both on PC and XBox and I am amazed how fast and accurate people are on the XBOX(For all of you who never played R6, it has no aim assist). In SOT we only have one gun with one shot and then it mostly gets down to the sword and in, melee players with a pad have the advantage.
@wochenendketzer
How do you come to the conclusion that players using a controller have the advantage in sword fighting??
A player using a mouse & keyboard can turn & strafe a lot quicker than a controller player, so where is the advantage?Don't worry about me I have a decent PC at home, I was just refeering to ppl who might only have a laptop and don't wanna burst down the resolution below Full HD.
because, Xbox Players won't have to deal with that, they have what everybody else has, on PC it can be very different.
During the Stress Test I was playing on PC and my buddy was on the Xbox. I didn't notice a big difference but my buddy thought the PC seemed to be more accurate. Which doesn't surprise me considering standard M&KB vs Controller. However, with how the game mechanics are, I don't see it being a big difference.
@LogansDadToo Because Movement on M&K is Controlled with two hands in two different ways. Turning around, depending on the sensitivity of your mouse, is a movement of cm with a mouse with the pad its mm with a flick of the thumb. Additionally the normal walking motions of the keyboard is 12 o'clock, 1:30 and than three a analog stick does not have this limitations. Most players prefer to play for example Assassins Creed with a pad rather than m&k because precision movement is much easier and feels more natural.
We could probably discuss this topic for all eternity without reaching any consent and some ppl already do all over the internetz.
But the fact is that this is something ppl have to get comfortable with. Adapters are out there and they are being used more than you think and Microsofts efforts to bring PC and console players together on one platform with crossplay and play anywhere this will happen with much more games in the future. Additionally MS opened up the possibility for developers to support m&k native on the xbox and wants to support it heavy in the future you wont only face this issue in crossplay games but in alle xbox games in the future.@katttruewalker so u just did admit that PC players have an advantage, I’d rather not play with PC players but o well. When I play on PC with mouse, my accuracy is way better, it’s almost to easy, drag mouse over target and click, not much skill to it. I’m way more impressed when people are good at aiming with a controller. I just hate using a mouse and keyboard. Kind of old fashion in my opinion. How long have people been playing with mouse and keyboard?
@sidious8888 sorry but mouse and keyboard are old fashion to me. I’d rather not sit hunched over at a desk smashing keys lol not very immersive. I like to kick back in my recliner and use a controller. I’d rather stay away from PC players, but I guess we will be forced to play with them, I wonder how long it will take for the PC hackers to start cheating? Not saying all PC players are hackers but I’ve already seen YouTube vids about how PC cheaters will be able to take advantage console players eventually.
No cross-hairs so really no advantage for pc users. During the beta I did run across quite a few pc users with no mic which is a pain.
@big-cheesy I'm not a Rare employee, I'm a volunteer Community Deckhand. The information is provided by Ted Timmins, who is the PC Design Lead for Sea of Thieves. To be honest, the 4.5% is something which was mentioned a good while ago as well and may well have been improved upon.
For me, Sea of Thieves is all about the fun, so I love the crossplay and the opportunity to play with a wide group of players on either platform.

@katttruewalker I think there will be plenty of Xbox players to play with so I really don’t see the point of mixing in PC players. Let them play together. I like knowing that my enemies are using the exact same set up I’m using.

Even early arcade/console/home computer games (single & multi-player) used some form of Controller/Joystick & Buttons before really implementing KB&M.
@wochenendketzer
You think an xbox player can turn around with the flick of a thumb??
I'm sorry but you are way off, there wouldn't be an issue if that was the case! You have to physically hold the stick until the character has turned enough!
At the quickest i would say the xbox is still 5x slower at turning than the pc.
Yes this isn't an ultra competitive shooter, no stats etc, but if you want to protect your booty or prevent being boarded etc, then playing with a controller & coming up against an average pc player, you will be at a disadvantage!
Yes there are adapters out there, but why should we have to buy them? The game was made predominantly for xbox players, so therefore why should they not disable KB+M & force pc players to use a controller, that's the flip side of your resolution!@wochenendketzer lol I’m not going to buy an old fashion keyboard and mouse just because I’m forced to play with PC players. Sitting hunched over a keyboard isn’t exactly my way of getting immersed into a game. I can see the Xbox community doing a lot of server jumping to avoid PC players. I know if I suspect them in a lobby I’ll try finding a new server, might not work but worth a try.
@waw-gunn ok cool but I still feel that it’s old fashion and not a very immersive way to play sitting at a desk clicking keys lol
@big-cheesy Hey, np. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, much like everyone is entitled to crossplay too. We will all find our own way come March 20th
